Thanks for the great video. The batwings on the Phantom 377 tail and flattish nose rocker make it hard to manage in that sea state especially across waves. I find the older F2/Mistral/Fanatic race boards much easier to handle in those conditions. I also find adjustable harness lines really help. Would be interested to learn more about your safety/comms kit, seems to be well thought out.
About 20 years ago, when I used to fly paramotors, one of the guys went off and windsurfed to France and back. I asked him about a support boat and he said he took one as he figured it irresponsible relying on English and French coastguards (volunteers) to have to rescue you if something went wrong.
Nice video - I was worried enough years ago windsurfing from Hayling across to the isle of wight, planning Cowes, but getting to Ryde and quickly re-evaluating my decision making and going back :)
wow this is such a cool adventure! The production is first-class, it's like a documentary...well done. Keen to see the next leg...unlucky with the fin that must have smashed really hard on some rocks to break like that. Could you please confirm what board volume you're using? It looks big, so much smash a lot on that chop! But I guess safety first especially for when the wind drops...
370L Board with a sail that size in 30knt wind on the south coast is nuts. I appreciate you need the security of buoyancy in the channel.... that's normally 4m weather on an 80L -100L board for most.... great effort 🤙
Three years ago I"ve travelled 3/4 of the way from south of Wissant beach (France) to Dover (GB) and back. Fanatic Freewave 105 in a sigle-fin setup and North Sails VoltHD 5.9 made this travel not pleasant (anyhow it was rather exhausting to stand on the same course almost an hour) but pretty comfortable. I cannot even imagine how to cross the straight on a raceboard. It is incredible! Very impressive! Kudos and much respect!
@@leehorrocks5253 there's all kinds of heroes in different people's eyes. Yes footballers get paid silly money, but they also do lots of work behind the scenes. Would I have rather joined the military and done what I did, or if I was good enough to play football. I probably would rather play football and set my family up for life
I was separated from a raceboard after dropping a highish wind gybe recently. They can glide off downwind faster than a swimmer. Thinking of trailing a line in those conditions.
Really exciting - as a keen (ex) windsurfer I really love this. Can't wait for EP 2. Please would you go through your kit in detail e.g. how do you keep a compass heading
Having spent a lot of time windsurfing and kite surfing in the Columbia River Gorge, Cape Town S.A., and all over the Caribbean my admiration of you and your goal is substantial!! Very, very cool footage. Well done!
There is a back to basics rawness about this which I really admire, so skillfully backed by knowledge of the sea elements and sailing makes it a riveting watch. Good filming and canny good editing I love it.
Awesome!! I’m reading “in the balance” at the moment as it happens and dreaming about doing Humber to Tyne next year on a multi day windsurf. More of this please!! Liked and Subscribed
Shades of Harry Dwyer powerboating around the UK 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Fantastic story and I recognise all those spots (just 40 years in the past…). Excellent storytelling which is what UA-cam should be all about. I particularly like the wonderfully unsponsored golf cap to keep the spray out of your eyes. Keep it up ⛳️⛳️⛳️
I tried windsurfing from Maui to Molokai one time. About three quarters of the way there the wind started to die. I got nervous and turned back. It's only ten miles distant.
Henry have you tried adjustable race harness lines ,having the lines really long will help a lot going downwind when really windy. Poole Watersports sell them.
wow , such a clean cut must be pretty brittle , eirther and or hit with some velocity . i suppose theres quite a lot of mass invloved hope the rest the board is sound
Valiant effort Boss. Sorry, can't help it but looks like a blast (to me). Am sure it was exhausting but what a beautiful ride. Am only an ex-ex-windsurfer from the States who did his sailboarding - they still call it that, eons ago - I think right after it was invented. Only thing close to what you're doing I once did a solo run up the west coast of Michigan, Lake Michigan shoreline for fun. To see what you're doing is amazing. After having watched several sailing events in those parts, with weather like that you must be taking a beating, but I tell ya it looks all too good to me.... Why if I was only ten minutes younger I'd show myself a thing or two!?! See you at least have a harness cuz you're arms are gonna be aching pretty soon. Great video, especially love watching the wake trailing your board.
My man: I’m windsurfing to France from England Me: 🫨👍 My man: I’m starting from Chichester Me: 😶 My guy: I’m not gonna check the weather before I go Me: 💀🪦
Surely part of a trip like this would be the planning of it? Both in terms of the wind/sea conditions on the day, and where to stop. Thus avoiding having to come in because of the weather, and ripping off half your fin?
I really enjoyed that, thank you! I live on the south coast and you were getting closer and closer to me. :) I wondered if you landed at Climping but I think you said another place that I haven't heard of. I'm looking forward to your next episode when I get a chance soon. I LOVE the sea with a passion, in fact anything with water, and I wish I was able to windsurf but my weight and fitness isn't up to it. I'm working on that with my new bicycle, so maybe some day.
Finally a REAL adventure for sailing UA-cam! Eagerly awaiting the rest. Also, very nicely made video. Good storytelling!
Thanks Dominic!

I loved watching this. thank you! ❤
greetz from The Netherlands
Incredible! That fin got well and truly munched. Staying tuned for the next episode, hopefully with a replacement fin to continue the voyage.
Thanks dude!
This is what I signed up to UA-cam for. Normal people doing outrageous challenges... Great to see!

Thanks a lot James! 377 Litre Starboard Phantom
Looking forward to part 2
Impressive stuff!
what a pity, but didn't get how had that happened? Crashed over rock on speed? Anyway, looking forward to the next part)
Wave caught the clew and pushed me onto the board so my full weight went onto the fin...
Epic !!! 🦄🌊🏄🥇👏

Not enough hooray Henry’s in the world 😅
Superb, when is the next episode?
Hi Matty, hope all well in the NW. Yes I'm editing atm as we speak!
Wow! Respect!
Yep next video please. Nice style. Nice commentary.
how do you know what direction to go? do you have gps or a sat nav? or you literally just keep the coast in sight and nothing else?
I can't work out if your very Brave or very Stupid but what ever you are your a very very good sailor on that board 👍🇬🇧
AWESOME !!! I like people who can do things like that, it is called adventurer.
I had no idea boris johnson did wind sailing
Bro was hauling ass

Everyone else is going the other way
Oh don't give em any ideas 🙄
The world needs more people like Henry.
Henry for PM, when he's a little older...
I say ol’ chum, is that a public school accent what what?
Well done. Epic video. Looking forward to part 2 🚀
Thanks a lot Uncle Lance! Edit in progress...
Please put up part two I want to see how everything ends

Thanks Andrey, Wissant is epic!
My wife’s dad did this single-handed literally. He had only one arm. He was the first ever amputee to windsurf across the channel.
That's a hero, right there. Not these fancy Dans, kicking a ball of air, into a net, on a field for 200,000 an hour. The father in law....hero.

Wow.. That is sick. Solute 👍
I was separated from a raceboard after dropping a highish wind gybe recently. They can glide off downwind faster than a swimmer. Thinking of trailing a line in those conditions.
hmmm that would be pretty terrifying
Maybe a SUP leash could be an option.
"After a flapjack and drink"...lol
Respect. I sailed all along there in a Hobbie. Your filming and narration are excellent.
Thanks! Love a hobbie...
great adventure 🙏😊😊
Awesome, gonna blow up on youtube hopefully! Please get a better mic for the voiceover tho
Great adventure! Looking forward to the next instalment.
Bet your glad your on a fin and not a foil, that would have hurt..
Thanks for sharing your aventures ! Really love the content !
Hopefully you replaced your fin and kept going ! Waiting for the next episode !
Wow did you say 377 litre board ? What date was this on ? Excellent you have family that windsurf too

Did you say the Falmouth coastguard? You can’t meant Falmouth Cornwall right, that won’t be of much help where you are there!
It is where they have the control centre

Yes but I can't get on board with them - also the rucksack means I need to keep the lines quite short to stop the waves slapping...

hope the rest the board is sound
Spoiler alert... not the only damage on the trip!!
Great video and what an adventure. I can only imagine what that breeze and sea state felt like, super effort !
Impressive to say the least. Well done

Great video, look forward to the rest of the series

Wow you are amazing to take on such a big adventure. Thank you for sharing your journey , it's really interesting and inspiring to watch . 😊 🌊🐬
Wouldn't that be the perfect wind to do that in? Love slop, but im old so complaining about a great sail grates me.
Did you manage to escape from England?
Great video and huge respect!
Well done Henry - sketchy stuff!
Haha cheers matey!
My stepfather & a friend of his did this about 15 years ago, leaving from around dungeness toward Calais and getting a Ferry back
Congrats!
From a French viewer watching your video from China!
Next time, start from Dover. That's what people have been doing for the past 1000 years.
Great achievement! Why did you choose an Ezzy? Great wind range?
It is truly remarkable that the cap did not fly off his head due to such a strong wind.
Well done, what an adventure ! Stay free.
Fewer face shots, more wave shots!!!!and put a helmet on!
Get a wind sock for your microphone please!

What If Something unexpected happened? Boom Brake or other damage?
Hmm kinda need a kick up fin so you can sail right on to the beach
Kick up daggerboard , by that time too late I imagine
Some saling dinghies use pivoting center boards and rudders.
You make really interesting, adventurous well put together videos mate. I windsurf in Port Philip Bay, Victoria. Love your content.
Thanks a lot, much appreciated! Greetings from the other side of the world!
Still looked a big enough fin to sail on…it was huge before.
That makes a change seeing someone go that way across the channel on a small craft…
20 miles all by your self. How ever did you do that?
great story telling and something new! Fab.
i liked the arrival at selsey : having some movie about it makes it real !

oh so the boat people cant come over but you can..... really really.
unbearable amount of ads, sorry cant finish video
Nice not having to go to work and choose random stuff to do eh.
such a great adventure, love it
Why the route you picked?
Why not just sail straight across from your original starting point?
Enjoying so far :)
i assume its because that would be longer and so if he has a problem he would get in more trouble, plus he could not stop and rest
All that piss and shit in the water dumped by southern water
i saw the advertisement for a new fin with that picture
Haha indeed...
I live in hayling island and it's a fantastic place to be.
I used to windsurf. Then I stopped.
keep on going never give up!
Nice one Henry
what a brave adventure
Don't forget your passport... 😉
Lovely video. One point, you can see Portsmouth Cathedral from miles out to sea, so that fact about Chichester is incorrect
I have some questions.
Why did you choose the starboard phantom 377l for this adventure? Is it good for long distances? What's the benefits?
Great achievement!
Trying to get my head around this. So you’ve got just the one sail, 6m2 you say, for the whole trip whatever the wind?
😂 , I suppose it might technically be possible to take a spare sail / rig it mid Channel on a 377 liter
I would pay to see it done
Yes that's it. One sail - that's half the challenge!
A group of us used to windsurf at Hayling Island when I was in the army. Our instructor used to sail to the Isle of Wight.
Portsmouth Cathedral is visible from the sea
