You should make this a series... testing the 5 top rated recipes of food network stars
Oh, that'd be amazing!
Love that idea!
Heck yes!!!!
Agree!!
YES!!
I just love how your whole family not only tries the dishes, but reviews them for you, as well. And not just yay or nay, but actual reviews. It says a lot about how much they respect you and how you and your husband have raised the kiddos. Great job!
I hope this doesnt sound condescending but I'm really proud of you for going for it with the anchovies!!! Such an underutilized misunderstood ingredient that deserves a chance!❤❤❤
Love anchovies! On a pizza, they stand out but cooked in a recipe they are a background player 😊!
Totally agree!
Caesar salad, spaghetti sauce
Christine: bikes down mountains and does CrossFit. Also Christine: is terrified of mushrooms and tiny fish. 😂 loved it. Those recipes looked great. I ❤️ fungi so will have to try that pasta.
I'd sub that kale for spinach. Kale tastes like nothing to me. It's just roughage
Back in 2004, I met Rachael at a cooking expo here in Cleveland. She actually called me up to the stage while she was doing a demonstration! She was making a Thanksgiving meal, and I helped her with her gourmet version of stuffing. I was so thrilled! It is good seeing someone put her meals to the time and difficulty test. After all, on the show, all of her ingredients were measured out and arranged for her. She did try to keep in as many steps as possible to make it more real, though. Thanks for this video! ~ Anastacia
I've made the mushroom & kale pasta dish, but I substituted the hazelnuts for cooked bacon instead, and I've made it with spicy Italian sausage with bell peppers instead of mushrooms. With the tomatoe soup, I've never been a fan until I tried a roasted veggies & tomatoes soup. The flavor profile is better!
Great changes in that pasta dish!!
Great changes to both recipes!
Genius swap with the bacon!
Yum!!!! Need to do that instead of mushrooms because my daughter isn't a fan.
Yaas, better! 😁
Rachel Ray is the first cooking show person that made me feel seen. I measure with my hands and heart and make good food. I absolutely love her.
I chop the mushrooms really small. If you cook them too long they become chewy. They’re best cooked at a medium high temp sautéed for about 5 minutes. They will continue to cook in whatever you’re making them in also.
I love that you just kind of go with the flow! It doesn't have to be perfect or exact. That's how I cook so I appreciate your style!
I applaud you changing the soup recipe to suit your taste. Rachel Ray is *all* about teaching methods and how you can change up ingredients!
I love mushrooms so I will definitely be making that recipe! Loved this video, would love to see you do more popular chef recipes!
In college, I would record episodes of 30 Minute Meals on VHS so I didn’t miss an episode. She taught me how to cook. I learned all my basic skills from her.
Same
I really enjoy watching your family! You and Dave have clearly done such a great job with these kids. 💖 And now I’m inspired to try some of these recipes I probably never would have before haha.
Thanks so much
Love how your daughter talks just like you. Love it!!
I loved the end! “No body knows the words” so true!
I love how REAL you are! Never change.
I was sooo all about Rachel Ray! Used to buy her DVDs as well 😂 I also am not a fan of tomato soup Christine- but I do love how open you are to trying things you don’t love! I feel like that def contributes to your entire fam being more open and willing to try everything! Love your vids are per usual. Have an amazing holiday to you, yours, all our UA-cam fam!
Happy Holidays right back to you!
I very much miss Rachel Ray’s 30 minute meals. I was one of my favorite shows back in the day. Thank you for bringing it back!!! And now I’m super curious about anchovies. I don’t eat seafood in general, not for any reason other than I don’t like the taste of seafood, but if it melts away… I might have to pick up a couple cans! 💙💙💙
A tradition in my family for 85+ years is to have tomato soup and grilled cheese on Christmas Eve as it is a quick meal to have before church. I put basil and cream in my tomato soup. I’m definitely going to try these grilled cheese. Merry Christmas🎄🎅
Well that sounds really good!
I love your honest opinions!!
Happy New Year Friend!! Been binging your channel all night Fantastic Fit Mom is.my title for tonight 💗 From the shopping, gifts, vacation, Aldi's 🎉, 30 min meals, your awesome kids, Darling Dave, I just love it all, thank you for.blessing my otherwise lonely NY 's eve!!
I love these videos lol I rarely hear of anyone actually making food network stars meals so I love this content.
“I just changed the whole dish and made it better” 😂😂😂😂😂i don’t eat mushrooms either and my hubby also doesn’t and he’s really not a picky eater. I’m surprised that recipe is that popular 🤣🤣🤣
Try Ina’s tomato soup. It has carrots in it for sweetness, basil, etc. Has a small amount of cream in it too. I make cheesy pizza sticks to dip into the soup. On a cold day, my son will eat this for lunch and dinner. I will check recipe to see which soup and let you know. If you have any leftover you can freeze it or use it as a sauce to put on meatloaf after you brown it. Let finish cooking with sauce on it. You will not need that much of it...about 1 cup or more depending how large your meatloaf is. My mother always used stewed tomatoes to put on her meatloaf. We never had a sweet sauce on the top of it. We had rice with the tomato gravy and meatloaf. My mother was from Crowley, LA. Like a gumbo, everyone has their way of cooking...no two are the same.
Where can I find the tomato soup
New subscriber here. I love that as a mom, you teach your kids it’s good to try things that you don’t care for in other recipes. I also realized it was about the texture of mushrooms when they’re cooked that I don’t like. I love raw mushrooms in my salads or if cooked, in a purée when it’s in a sauce.
I love Rachel Ray and I love how you made her meals. I am no longer afraid of anchovies although I probably would’ve used 2 🤣🤣🤣 Love your family’s input and thank you for making me laugh and hungry 🙃
Thanks for going to all the work! 👏👏💜
Oooh I'm definitely going to make that spaghetti! Anchovies, garlic, lemon, chilli flakes, AND cheesy breadcrumbs??? Basically a list of my favourite ingredients 😄
I LOVE my Misen pans and knives!
Love videos like this & love Rachel ray i used to watch her all the time ..you keep it honest & relatable ! Lol
Every time you talk about Misen ..........I LOVE MINE! I got a pan randomly from a Kickstarter in 2018 (8" Misen Nonstick Pan) and it's become my favorite. They make some really great products! My sister and I would watch Rachel Ray after school. Although we rarely followed through and cooked any of it - sorry Mom. lol
Yes, a touch of cream and basil does wonders for plain tomato soup.
Loved Rachel, Giada and Paula back in the day!
I’d replace the mushroom with quality steak (so it’s not tough). They always say mushrooms can be used in place of beef to bring meatiness, so why not replace mushrooms with beef and maybe a little beef concentrate like Demi glaze and I would leave out those hazelnut all together. 😆
I replace anchovies with capers for a briney taste.
I think it’s jar-din-air 😍
Thanks for the great video. Enjoyed!
That sounds delicious. I like mushrooms but like steak better!
Over the years I have tried so many times to like mushrooms and I finally just gave up haha. It’s the texture and the taste for me. Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas!
Couldn’t agree more, I’m not a fan. My husband on the other hand LOVES them!
I went to culinary school, and we always had to try everything. (Except if allergic), and we made duxelles. Basically fancy mushroom pate sort of thing. Blecch. I gagged. Still try every few years to enjoy them. I fail each time.
@@LifeWithMrsB I love mushrooms but only on steak and spaghetti sauce. No one in my family except me like onions. Drives me crazy lol
So good to know I'm not alone in making an attempt to like shrooms, no matter how often I try it, I cringe and determine not to try again.
If you’ve had Caesar Salad dressing, then you’ve had anchovies
Yes, love ceasar but I wouldn't eat it anchovies otherwise.
Watching Rachel Ray was like prime time tv when she was young! We'd watch Sandra Lee & how heavy handed she was with booze & laugh & then learn to cook with Rachel! Still keep a garbage bowl (technically for compost). I think she gave everyone a boost of confidence because she was like a friend.
I love when you make these kinds of videos!
Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree. How lovely are your branches. I actually learned this in my German class in high school...many, many years ago... Lol! Love Rachel Ray!
I bought a misen complete cookware set and saved 20% a while ago with your coupon code. Love the stainless steel set!! They are wonderful!!
Girl those mushrooms looked AMAZING! I love them!
Enjoyed this video!! I use anchovy PASTE instead of the filets.
Glad to see cooking videos back😊
I love tomato soup. I learned so much from watching Rachel Rae and still use a lot of things I learned from watching 30 minute meals. Sounds silly (or sad) but I never roasted veggies until she did it. Now it’s the only way I make Brussels sprouts and I only tried that because I was planning her roasted broccoli and realized my husband had picked up the wrong B veggie 😂 , but we’ve never looked back. I always enjoy your family rating the dishes and you are constantly entertaining. Merry Christmas to you and your family 💕
@FrugalFitMom THE coolest gadget for garlic .... it's a rolling ball that you put the garlic in, roll it around and it dices the garlic. I LOVE it! Think I found at Kohl's? It's a Food Network gadget
I also watched Rachel years ago and have used a garbage bowl ever since and I even purchased a large frying pan with the orange handle from her and still in excellent shape years later! Now about the tomato soup.....only for recipes that call for it never to eat, totally not a fan! I do love mushrooms, especially garlic mushrooms on top of steak, yum! Thanks for the throwback, loved it!
My husband loved when I would watch Rachel Ray 😍 always great recipes
I love that you do these recipes, my husband’s favorite indulgent side is the pioneer woman’s Twice baked potato casserole that I made after watching your video lol And now that you gave Giada raving reviews I now have to try her recipes😊
For great mushroom texture, add fewer at a time to the pan. Learnt that from Julia Childe from Julie and Julia and it changed my cooking game!
Interesting fact, Worcestershire sauce is actually made with fermented anchovies! Definitely go check out how it's made, it's a very lengthy process and makes you appreciate the sauce that much more :D
LOVED the end and singing!
I always put cream in my tomato soup. It changes it and it’s great
I too watched Rachel everyday also these looked great!
I was an anchovy doubter - but once I started to think of it as a funky seasoning, it all made sense! Plus they make AMAZING high value dog treats if you have extras.
I always thought Worcestershire sauce had anchovies in it as one of the ingredients lol, but I’m not positive 🤨
I love mushrooms! I loved watched Rachel. I haven’t tried any of her recipes yet though.
Just wanted to say:
1. Love your channel
2. I appreciate all the movie/show quotes you always include
3. Your hair always looks good, but in the thumbnail 'twas extra cute 👌 like extra volume.
Thanks for continuing to provide us awesome content!
I love your videos. Where else can one find such a tidy package of useful info wrapped up with a bow of quality entertainment? Your family inserts are the sprinkles on top. Which is why I hit like before watching. Every time. Merry Christmas! ~ Lisa
Wow, thank you!
Good Morning Christine and Family!!!! Have a wonderful day!
I know this isn't entirely related, but your videos are my selfcare. You're such a role model to this tired mom of 4 💜
Also, I HATE MUSHROOMS 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for this video!! We tried the Orecchiette recipe tonight (minus the hazelnuts, per your suggestion) and everyone LOVED it - ages 1 to 40!
Yay!!!
Worstershire and Ceasars dressing BOTH have anchovies and is what gives them thier distinctive flavor!! I adore anchovies in pasta sauces
We enjoy tomatoes so much, I can vegetable soups, tomatoes and sauce in a year with a great year of tomato growth. Last year was great. This year, we had so much rain here in our area it stunted their production. I think we had a whole 2 tomatoes.🍅🍅
The meals looked fun for us to watch. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
So excited to see this! I grew up watching 30 minute meals. I probably watched food network way more than any other kid 😂
I learned to use anchovy when I lived abroad... so much flavor all the good Caesar dressing uses anchovy paste!
I am not a fan of fungus! I cannot do the texture either! Love that you took a chance! Great video!
Great vlog! I also use to watch Rachel all the time! She made a lot of great stuff!
I've never used anchovies in anything either, glad to hear you liked it! Maybe I'll try them in the future.
Anchovies are good if you like salty fish. Just gotta watch out for the bones. I eat them out of the can sometimes. I just pick off the meat and eat it. The oil and seasoning are yummy.
I feel like we’re soul sisters! I’m obsessed with potatoes/fries, hate mushrooms, and love Rachel Ray
Thanks for testing these out for us. I used to watch all of her shows too. Also, in case you ever try another mushroom recipe again...My trick to fix the mushroom texture issue is to chop them up really small.
Anchovies are so good!! Mix them into any cream sauce, I would recommend chopping them next time. It makes things really rich. Good in red sauce too. They are sooo good for you.
I cook with anchovies all the time!! I think they add a lot of flavor without adding fishiness! I use them as a base in my red sauce!
I love the quote "I'm only here for the food " from Ever After. Food is interesting and essential. Cooking for one is hard for me, but there's always leftovers!
Not a fan of tomato soup myself but if you like garlic bread can I recommend spaghetti garlic bread subs? I use store-bought garlic bread, bake it and slice it halfway down the middle and take spaghetti with meat sauce and place it inside and cover it with cheese and then bake a few minutes until it's melty. It's a great way to use up leftover pasta.
I love Rachel Ray too!
It’s nice to see families try new foods. small fish bones are edible. great source of calcium and pretty common in Asian cuisine.
I've known Russians and Zambians who eat the little dried fish, too
I use anchovies for my homemade caesar salad dressing. Super yummy!
I love tomato soup, and I love red pepper flakes in mine. I often use frozen tomatoes that were from my summer garden. I would definitely have added cream, though!
I LOVE that your kids said, it's not my favorite. We say that instead of "I don't like it" or "I hate it" much nicer way of communicating your feelings!
Vermouth is in the liquor drink mixer section. Goes by Dry Vermouth usually.
I had cream and Italian seasoning and basil to my homemade tomato soup also a couple bay leaves and let it simmer in the pot. That grilled cheese looked bomb
You had me cracking up when you were showing the misen knife and how you cut the onions back and forth 😂😂😂😂
Same way about the mushrooms over here! I bet that dish would be good with crumbled sausage instead of mushrooms. I want to try the other dishes 😍
I loathe mushrooms and I hate tomato soup too! I've tried so many of Rachel's recipes and she just isn't a hit in our house. It's rare if we make one of hers that we actually like.
Same
I love the commercial for the knives in the middle of this!
Ina’s Cream of Fresh Tomato Basil Soup. I just use canned, crushed tomatoes when I am out of fresh tomatoes. Also, I use water in place of chicken broth with about 5 chicken bouillon cubes.
Omg, I wish I had a kitchen to put all that great stuff in!!!
I used to watch Rachel Ray quite a bit, but not in several years. If you've had ceasar salad, you've had anchovies in paste form (not a ceasar dressing without it). I would likely make that pasta dish with the shrimp. I don't do mushrooms at all, nor tomato soup. Not big on cheese unless it's a really good grilled cheese sandwich, so I'd likely make that with some other soup. I'm with your daughter on the zuppa tuscana soup. Best thing ever.
The first actual dinner party I went to, the host used the spaghetti/lemon/breadcrumb recipe for the pasta course along with this huge, delicious salad. I got her recipe and used the anchovies, and now I use them for lots of pasta recipes. My kids love this recipe so much!
Also, Rachel Ray's mantra all through all her shows was that everyone should always customize these recipes to suit their tastes, but the recipes are meant to give ideas of techniques and flavor combos!
I also love Rachel Ray! I can tomato soup every year and it's amazing! I'm not sure I'm a fan of the other recipes...lol. You very brave to try all you did, And I to find the older I get the less I like mushrooms because of the spongy texture. I love them raw on salads but not cooked. Can't wait to see your next cooking adventure.
I agree with you on the mushroom front
My favorite recipe of hers is a Chicken Burrito with Mango salsa. It takes awhile to make but so worth it. I didn’t like mushrooms until my 30s and find canned fish (except tuna) too smelly/slimy to even consider cooking. Thank you for another great video. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I have always believed you when you said the bowls were big but holy-moly - that comparison to the Cornell’s was game changing
Your videos are so helpful. I have a pot and strainer for pasta like you but didn't know that was what it was for so have never used it. lol
I add large pinch of baking soda to tomato products and it helps cut the acid in the tomatoes.
I love how your kids give their opinions on the recipes you try. Have a good day 👍
Thank you 😊
Love the video! Going to have to try a few of these recipes… my family is full of mushroom lovers, except for my oldest son (took embarrassingly long to realize he’s actually allergic to them, thankfully not severely)
Love the Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals 😊
Corelle also makes a bowl sized/shaped like that. We use them nearly exclusively and call them bowl-plates.
Love tomato soup. I make it with chili flakes and roasted red peppers and cream at the end.
I love this you should do another one of these
