People have short memories. We played Bellingham and Rice together behind an AM in the last World Cup against the USA. The chemistry was totally off and Rice was the worst rated player on the pitch. Rice only played well for England when either Henderson or Phillips next to him. He needs someone to cover him when he leaves position and presses the ball. Holding position is not Bellinghams game, but it is Whartons.
Walker and trippier are useless, Trent and Gomez

I think what’s happening is that the players know that Southgate is losing it. Surely they can see what we can see. These are intelligent footballers who have played under elite coaches. They must be scratching their heads. Seeing Foden putting his arms in the air in frustration is tragic. Think about what it does to these players when they know that they are playing the wrong tactics. If we are demoralised by it , what are they feeling.
Southgate does a better job of winding up an entire country than Buvey does with Robbie or Mckola

Kane needs a rest. Trent needs dropping.

Agree Gomez needs a go but he’s right footed. I’d even consider Trent at RB and Walker at LB.

Trent the only player who actually creates chances for us. Play Gordon who will actually run behind and Trent will be the best player on the pitch
Play Trent in the 8 and you’ll see an entirely different game than sticking him at CDM and expecting him to look anything other than lost (and play Gordon)

That means that, as things stand, England would play Austria in the last 16. Things get a little bit tastier if England finish second in their group. That would mean they would almost certainly face tournament hosts Germany in Dortmund, assuming Julian Nagelsmann's side get a result against the Swiss
Gomez is right footed, foden played well against Denmark and was arguably our most dangerous attacker.
Gomez has been playing LB all season though and is adept at switching to his left when he needs to. He’s a better option than trippier in that regard and at least has a recent season rather than a handful of games like trippier

As a Liverpool and England supporter, I've been saying that Trent is not a Midfielder. Pep Lijnders (Klopp's assistant coach) made the decision to play Trent as an "inverted" right back, moving into midfield at certain moments in a match, but he has never started there and now we see why. He is a player who needs time and space to pick out 50-60 yard passes; he cannot receive the ball on the half turn and is not at all press resistant.
Adam Wharton needs to be in the double pivot with Rice.
Foden is world class, but we need to let Gordon touch pitch and see if we can work with his pace.
Palmer, somehow, needs to get in there as well, at least as a sub ffs.
Guehi, Walker, Saka, and Pickers have been solid so far.
Let hope Southgate grows a pair by Tuesday and makes the necessary changes to get us out top of the group.

Drop Rice, Bellingham back to an 8, foden 10 and gordon on the left. Wharton is the only DM worth having in the squad, 10 times better on the ball than Rice.

People suggesting Rice as a 6, Jude as an 8 clearly have no clue about this sport.
If after these first two games you haven't seen that Rice sucks as a 6, go watch volleyball or something.
He is awfull in possession as a 6. Incapable of controlling a game, setting the tempo....
The reason it worked for West Ham is that they were a relegation side.
So his defensive attributes got more prominence and hid his weaknesses in possession.
Unless you want England to play counter attacking football, you need someone like Wharton in that position.
Every good country that plays attacking/possession based football has someone like that in that position.
England should stop forcing individuals in and just look at who are right for a certain position.
You've got Jude, Foden and Saka for two positions (on the right and attacking midfield).
That means one is on the bench. You don't just force him in by playing him out of position.
The situation is actually very comparable with Germany.
They could also make Gundogan an 8, put Musiala/Wirtz central just to force Sané in.
However Nagelsmann is a world class coach, so he took Andrich to the euro's... for balance.
It simply results in Sané making appearances of the bench, that's the only good way to solve it.
This is why the kalvin phillips comment actually makes sense

i dont understand the rush to drop trent. how is it in a side where rice, walker, foden, trippier are all being hindered by the managers decisions, trent is the only one who looks off solely cause of his inability? i get its a new position, but nothing he did on the ball in these two games was as bad as jude and rice yesterday. is there seriously NO world where he looks infinitely better in an attacking system? making changes wont save southgates job. he’s proven he’ll be conservative no matter who is on the pitch. trent is following instructions like every england player. the reason it doesnt look the way we expect is cause england is not attacking the way we expect. trent will create chances, whether its from cm or rb, whether the team is aggressive or conserative. these two games have proved that. you can drop him, but you’re going lose 3-5 chances a game while the midfield still has no interest in pressing or passing up the pitch

Sorry to say it... But am I the only one that thinks we should of brought pure pace in the width. And a player that can play through the lines. We looked so much better with the likes of a Rashford on the LW, and Saka RW playing off Kane dropping off, and slicing those passes through the inside space. Mount playing in that pocket too. I know they've been crap for their clubs, and injured but International football is a different game, look at Kane and Foden, and even Bellingham and Rice, they've had amazing domestic seasons but struggled at int. level. My proposed team would of even included Grealish. Imo, we should of lined up with Pickford, Shaw, Guehi, Stones, Walker, Rice, Bellingham, Mount, Rashford, Kane, Saka - Foden and Grealish to come on the second half. We would be insane with that line up.
Thought Foden was a bit better and probably just about deserves to keep his spot. The reason their play looks so bad is because Rice and Trent have no idea how to control the game. Rice can't even receive the ball on the half turn and lacks so many qualities you need to be a deep lying playmaker. Trent doesn't understand the position which isn't his fault. Southgate seems to think he can just throw Trent in midfield, as if he's suddenly going to turn into Andrea Pirlo. It's very bad management. I'd replace both DMs with Wharton and Mainoo. Southgate will probably play Gallagher tho

It's so simple. Foden had a way better season than saka. Why is foden being stuck out left? Stick saka out there? Or better yet, drop TAA, put Bellingham there, and foden in the middle. Gordon or Palmer on the left. Palmer had the most GA in the league and can't get into a team struggling to score goals. Southgate is a clown.

Bro. Foden was playing centrally already. Changing his name from LW to CAM doesn’t change it. The system sucks. That England team nullified someone who’s a Ballon d’Or favorite in Bellingham. Nullified the best striker in the world, Kane. Nullified one of the most exciting players in the world in Saka and Foden. That system of hoping Jude does some Madrid Magic, and if that fails, chuck the ball high hoping Harry Kane gets it, and if that doesn’t work, let Foden cook, and if that doesn’t work pass the ball to Pickford. You know why Bellingham is one of the best players in the world alongside Vini and Mbappé? Because Madrid allowed him and facilitated him properly. When Vini runs, he runs. When he runs Vini runs, and when he pushes forwards, everyone pushes forward. Him and Vini and Kroos dictate what the team does and everyone follows to a predictable Vini goal or some random Goal or a Random Thomas Muller type goal from Jude outta nowhere. Why is Kane effectifor Bayern? He gets proper service. Why are Saka and Foden so exciting? The system. They’re not system players but a horrible system kills their game. Not once was Jude accompanied when he ran. Not once was the ball passed forward for Kane. Not once was Saka joined in on for support and not once was Foden accompanied in the middle once he had the ball. And him and Jude and Kane are the most baffling ones. They all played in the same spot. Hard to get isolated in that situation but they tried their best to avoid the ball handler. Maybe, Maybe. Go hard offense and just drop trent and have twin tens to maximize Foren and maximize Jude Bellingham, the best player in the prem and the best player in the world respectively. But I don’t see how that fixes the lack of service Kane got. Atrocious. No cohesion. It was hilarious as a neutral.

Foden played 13 games on the left this season for City. He should be doing better
@@Daniboi971 and how many did he play on the right? How many through the centre? City have a completely different set up to England in that foden is afforded the opportunity to drift inside. When he does that for England it's just completely empty on the left

@@Buvey I think you are right about trent not being a midfielder but it seems that the blame is put too much on him. Most of the players had a poor game with or without trent. The midfield looked less balanced with trent but even without him I just think the tactics from the manager and the decisions were nowhere near good enough. I would like to see the team start that you made in this video as it offers more solutions and seems more balanced, and it also allows more freedom for other players.

Wharton much better at on the ball and Mainoo has legs/protects the ball well.
Trippier is pointless. Guehi doing most of the defending on the left anyway so might as well play him LB/CB. TAA can play those balls in behind from his natural position on the pitch. Stones can push the team forwards knowing Walker and Guehi can cover 1v1.
Get the team on the front foot, playing high up the pitch and smashing that Slovenia goal.

Nah the kalvin phillips comment makes total sense when you think about it. People forget how good he was at the last euros because of bad hes been the past couple of years. 2021 kalvin phillips at 6, Rice at 8 and bellingham at 10 would go a long way to fixing our midfield issues. It let's Rice do what he does for arsenal rather than play the cdm role he hasn't really been since his penultimate west ham season

I biggest thing Southgate needs to correct. Is stop playing players out of position! Foden's a 10, not a winger. Bellingham's an 8 not a 10. Trent's a right-back not a midfielder. Trippier is being played on the opposite side of the pitch. Forced to use his weaker foot. Etc, etc, etc...
Drop Bellingham if anything. Foden needs to play in the 10 he is englands best player. Bellingham is not creative enough and can’t link play with the forwards anywhere near well enough to justify that position

I would drop the both…Jude looks knackered anyway. Play Wharton alongside Rice and Palmer in the 10 with Gordon left
Foden is not giving his best being on the left, and Jude is dropping deep because Kane is standing in his space. If anything, drop Trent, leave Bellingham as an 8 (he's standing there half of the time already), play Foden as a 10 (at least he's left footed, so he won't be exactly in the same positions as Kane), and get Gordon on the left side. Finally, not bringing another left back was a bad choice, there's not much overlapping with Trippier on the wrong foot.

Too harsh on Foden. Genuinely Foden as a 10 a much better pick than Jude as a 10. Foden is the better player in that position

The kalvin phillips comment actually makes total sense. If we had the kalvin phillips of euro 2021 available to us, he completely fixes the midfield. Rice wouldnt be the deepest midfielder and could do what he does for arsenal. People forget how good he was for us then because of how bad hes been at club level recently. Phillips at 6, Rice at 8, Bellingham at 10 is fine. Its not two DMs as Rice doesnt really play that role for club and we dont use wingbacks anymore. Drop Foden for Gordon and then we arent relying on Kane to press and he has runners to play those passes hes so good at into. Kanes never been a quick, pressing player even before he turned 30
