I wish it covered the disease and trenchfoot a bit more, since that was a primary contributer to the suffering that took place, but it nailed the combat
Absolute tragedy that this film didn't get more Oscar's. Not hating but this film was so much deeper, well thought out, and more important to society than any damn comedy film like EEAAO.
It still won 4 Oscars and was nominated for 9 which was the second most for any movie, It even won best International film. I’d hardly call that a tragedy, by all accounts the movie was a success
It wasnt really historically accurate. Take the tank scene for example. When the flamethrowers were clearing the trenches, they were ahead of the tanks. In reality they would be the last so that their allies can pass through. Aside from that, this is an awesome movie.
@9920.. you do realize soldiers aren't the only people capable of rape, right? Your average person that you see once while walking down the street could be a rapist. Anyone could be a rapist, and you wouldn't know until they were outed by a victim or a witness or if you witnessed it.
My great grandfather fought in ww1 for Canada. He survived the war but one of his brothers died, the other was badly injured from gas but survived the war. My great grandfather volunteered for the war and lied about his age to get in, you had to be 19 but he must have been about 16-17. He didn't talk much about it afterwards.
I really love this movie, our restaurant supervisor mother who serve in world japanese/american war saw this movie and really cry hard in the ending. But he passed yesterday in the age of 95.The Pianist and this movie was her favorite movie.
If u really realize paul just becomes so broken, he just doesn't really care, which is honestly understandable bc seeing all those people including ur friends and its not till after kat dies he really becomes broken the more people die the more he becomes broken that's why I love this movie it shows the truth of war
This edit needs more credit!!! Just made me cry even tho i haven’t watched the movie yet. You just know what’s going on and can easily associate everything. Love it
Shows the German perspective of ww1, one of the first movies to do it well since on the western front germans didn't have anti tank guns or much artillery placements
As a Turk, my great great grandfather participated in this war in the Russian front and he was young at that time and he said to my grandfather that he never felt like he was back home.
The Loss of innocence is so done well in this clip. We see Paul with joy and pride for his nation, ready for war. The anguish starts to set in and by the end of the movie, He's completely broken as a person. It's so sad to watch.
Its films like these that remind me, after I've been playing all them shooter games with a happy-go-lucky mood, that war...is not some sort of "great adventure". Its horrors beyond imagination.
