Hi, my biggest question is can a Denon 600ne amplifier handle these, thanks for the review. They look great. I was thinking of buying the Monitor audio bronze 100 but, now i wonder 🤔
Great to see this review. Well done. I would like to see a comparison to the Wharfedale Evo 4.2. Also $1,000, also 3-way, and also relatively large. In terms of aesthetics Wharfedale is serious competition if it sounds decent. Also, I would love to see a comparison between this vs. your favorite $500 speaker + $500 subwoofer pairing. Also, speaker reviews that include an AVR are useful to more people. Is a Denon X3500h, which people can usually pick up for about $500 on sale, enough to drive this?
Hello Brian, I have the Denon x3500h. It is plenty powerful to drive either one and probably pairs pretty well with wharfedale or elac given they are laid back. To my ears the Denon seems to give a bit of a v shape sound and it crossed over my elac higher than my Yamaha receiver which I didn't like. I turn the LFC up for music listening with my JBL studio 580 or the bass is overpowering. I do like the Denon but I think you need to be careful what you pair it with. I particularly wouldn't pair it with anything bright like Klipsch and probably not svs or jamo from what Randy said about them. Yamaha works well with bright speakers.
These speakers are great! I have the UBR 62 and they actually smoke my Klipsch rp6000f towers in every category except bass. To be fair, I'm in a small 1 bedroom apt that might be too small for the Klipsch. The soundstage, imaging, and clarity are so nice. They are also way less fatiguing than my Klipsch...But once again the room is too small for the towers. I will eventually get a subwoofer for just some rumbling during movies though. I likey!

Seeing how both Debut Reference and these share the same size woofer, which impresses you the most with bass, assuming no subwoofer will be in use? Does one dig a little deeper or have more bass presence in general? I'm still clutching my original Debuts because nothing recent has had what they have.
Great information, thanks. I'm on the fence re: buying this speaker. My only concern is whether my NAD C700 hybrid streaming amp at 80 Watts per channel is enough to bring the woofers to life at low to moderate sound levels. The unity UB 52 is also on my short list. Do you think the UB 52 would be a better fit with the NAD C700? I hope you have time for an answer. Thanks in advance.
In this video along with a few others with these speakers, you’ve mentioned they require a bit more power than other speakers. The 2 amps you mention in this video are hugely different in power delivery (20w and 160w). I don’t want the thin bass you mentioned from the 20w amp. But I don’t want to have a huge 160w amp on my desk. How much is enough to get full sound out of these? 40w, 60w, 100w? Do you have a recommendation for an amp that would be used exclusively with these speakers?
Looks like you're top of the queue. Amazing. Are they worth the money Randy? A worthy upgrade from the other elac options? What's their competition in your mind?
Great video! Thanks. I have a question. In my room I have unpleasant bass nodes so even though I use a sub (SVS micro 3000) with the Klipsch rp600m. I use a Schitt Loki+ between my amp and CD player and the 20Hz I turn down to about the 9 o’clock 9:30 position to rid the unwanted bass nodes but I loose some of the texture in the mids. So my question is because of the bassier sound of the reference would I be better off with the UB52?
What you need is a second sub. That loki isn't doing anything to solve your room nodes. Everyone has room nodes, which you solve with multiple subs and then DSP or parametric EQ. All you're doing with the Loki is attenuating the entire bass response. Btw the UB52 is bassier than the Reference (I own both),, especially if you place them against the wall. The reference has a fuller, punchier mid bass but rolls off earlier below 80 Hz. This means it's easier to integrate the Reference vs the UB52 if you don't have active bass management.
Have you considered reviewing the Kali Audio IN series speakers? Those are 3-way concentric design like this one and is generally well-received. Should be an interesting comparison.
Hi, just watched your review of this speaker. If you have any contacts with Kali, it would be great to see a review of Kali In8v2 studio monitor. They are similiar to these Elac's but with 3 amps built into the speaker plus they have unbalanced RCA -10db allowing easy connection to home av equipment. I enjoy your channel. Thank you.

I am close to pulling the trigger on the CSS Criton TD-1X which is close at this price range at $920 USD. How they different and the same? Which would you rather own for say the next 5 years?
The Critons get the nod for bass extension and maybe even bass clarity. The elacs have or to my ear have much more going on in the treble region. Both are great. I think the elacs have better off axis performance especially in the vertical plane

At first sight from thumbnail, i thought why are you talking about Elac with some Wharfedale diamond 12 series.
On a live stream he answers that 50w is minimum he would recommend, but 100w would be better. The speakers are 6ohm.
Looks like you're top of the queue. Amazing. Are they worth the money Randy? A worthy upgrade from the other elac options? What's their competition in your mind?
@21:00
In the video, he stated that they are worth the upgrade if you already on the Elac UB52 2.0's. That says a lot about these reference speakers.
@@Feliciano12v Indeed, it does. Doth? Doth. Does.
Hi Randy. Thanks again. Can the Cambridge Audio CXA61 integrated amplifier drive a pair of these?
Hi Randy, Is that a Conrad-Johnson Amp behind you. And is so can you do a Video on That and how it sounds.
Still within the Amazon return period for the UB52. I'm definitely returning them and get these!
Have you considered reviewing the Kali Audio IN series speakers? Those are 3-way concentric design like this one and is generally well-received. Should be an interesting comparison.
Damn, and I just built a Dolby Atmos setup with all Uni-Fi 2.0's. This is what I WISHED those were.
Does ELAC take trade-ins?
I think this will be my next dream bookshelf. Yeah!
Thank you.
Great shirt!
Great review again! Not long ago you reviewed the beautiful Sonus lumina 2 Amator. Any thought on how the Elac UniFi Reference compares to those?
very different sounding. the elacs are way way warmer with less top end excitement. they hit way harder though as expected
Good to know for a matching amplifier. I hope the Lumina 2 Amator with a new cross over have a more balanced frequency response and tamed top end than their cousins Lumina 2. Thanks for the reviews. Greatly appreciated.
Hi Randy, what du you recommend wait for the Elac uni-fi reference or buy the Kef ls 50 Meta....in Europe still the elacs Not available...im just Starting the Hobby now....and i am a little impatient😁 sorry Not ist cheapaudio...but these elacs are almost Same Price🤗
Would an AB amp such as Schiit Vidar be a good pairing to these?
Hey! We used to own Speaker City!!!
Thanks for great reviews!! I need your expert opinion! What about ELAC Carina BS243.4!? It has a jet twitter. But what are the better speakers overall!? Elac Uni-fi Reference or Carina BS243.4?
Don't worry you are ChiefAudioman now no more cheap title we all have fun with your channel Randy you're awesome Cheers.
Why am I at work now? I just wanted to pull the trigger on the UB52. Can't wait to get home to watch the review.
No polk comparison?
These over the GR Research XLS Encores for a home theater application?
I have the original UB5’s and the DYI is peaking my interest.
Please compare them with SVS prime bookshelves.
Regarding your bass comment, would 40 watts per channel drive m decent bass, in your opinion?
Could you help with the model of the speaker stands that would work with these new 3 way model speaker, do the speakers bolt to the speaker stands and what would be the recommended subwoofer from Elac to pair with these speakers? Thanks
@@cheapaudioman Thanks for taking the time to give me your thoughts. That is why i'm going for the TD-1X Vs td-1. Also what do I care about vertical off axis? I have an ear/tweeter level listening chair :)
Recently subscribed to your channel in order to learn what to buy. Audio electronics is something I know very little about. I would just like to enjoy a nice sound system. So, based on my pocket book and considering I like to buy once cry once I just ordered these. So, presently I have a denon Avr-591…should I upgrade this ? What would partner well with these speakers?
Thx
Nice review 👍
The day of the New ELAC reviews hehehe
