knit up your winter bluff sweater recently and have been feeling sooo guilty about not wearing it because i found i didnt love the loose neckline. as always your patterns and advice are lifesavers!! this came at the perfect time. thank you!
Wow, thank you! Decided to go with the method using the crochet hook and made 2 rows at the top, then a further at the base of the collar, as it was still a little loose. So pleased with the result.
I have an oversize wool colourwork cardigan made by my late grandma. I love wearing it but the neckline was so stretched out and I was terrified to start unraveling and reknitting it in case I messed up. I used the slipstitch around the top of the neckline on the inside and it worked great! Thank you so much!
Crochet slip stitch at the base of the collar tightens a lot more because you are doing one slip stitch for every 2 knit stitches (knit/purl) combination. You can adjust this by adding a chain stitch between each slip stitch, or perhaps between every other slip stitch.
I’m assuming you could use these methods if you wanted to tighten the ribbing at the bottom of your sweater as well. A lot better than ripping out all of your ribbing! Thank you for posting.
I didn’t like the loose neckline and so I doubled it over and hemmed it. I may take it apart and do the crochet thing. I crocheted the bottom hem for the same reason and considered crocheting the collar but decided on the doubling over. Now I’m wondering if the sweater could be knitted without the collar and then later knit from the edge up to a desired collar height. Also I used much smaller needles for the cuffs which gave me a nice blouse sleeve and an even smaller needle for the sleeve bind off.
I can’t Knit my Gap sweater because it wasn’t a Knit sweater and I did not want to wear it because of my loose neckline. To cover my Nike undershirt, I need my sweater to be tighter. Thank You!
This is the most useful thing I’ve learned in knitting in a long time! I was easily able to fix the neck of a sweater I made for my grandaughter. She actually had lots of the clear elastic for her beading and ten minutes after watching your tutorial the neck was no longer hanging off off her shoulders! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I was looking for something that would revive an older cashmere sweater that was stretched out from hanging, tried this and it worked, hasn’t stretched out since
Hi from the UK, my wife (and I) watched this video and it's really helpful. She's a 'serial' knitter but finds some of her work loosens at the bottom of the sweaters that she knits for me after a while rather than the neckline. Can this method be used at the bottom of the sweater too or do you have another method for that? Thanks and have a Wonderful Christmas.
My 4 usd thrifted aran sweater has that tightening style 6-9 minute mark around the hand cuffs but the collar none which makes it unstructured and exposed to being stretched.
Hi Ashley, when I knitted my sweater I got it to tight in the stomach area . Is there a way I can cut the sides and add under the arm pits to increase it from both sides .
hi! i knitted your fall bluff sweater with a dk weight yarn, but it looks like a rectangle when i try it on. is there any way to fix the rectangle and make it like a circle with the elastic? thank you!

Awesome. I was just looking for this. One of my necklines is to wide. My solution was knitting a cowl. Now I can try this solution. Thank you 🙏

These tips were so helpful. The slip stitch to the top of the collar saved my very first wearable. Thank you.

@@davestroud1499 same can definitely apply to the bottom! Hope this helps!

Thanks Ashely for this useful video. Is it possible to do more than 1 round if I feel the neckline is still a bit loose?
I don't know how to crochet but will try the first method as it looks very easy. Does it look strange in the back ruched together?
I feel like these tips might work for the ends of sweater sleeves, too?
Yes, totally!
Hi Ashley...how about if its too high or tight ? X
Hi Ashley, when I knitted my sweater I got it to tight in the stomach area . Is there a way I can cut the sides and add under the arm pits to increase it from both sides .
Thanks Ashley for sharing such great info with us. ✌️❣️🧶
You are so welcome! Anytime!! Happy knitting :)
My neck for this was way tooooo size 5 needle and worsted weight 4 and re did to 112 stitches instead of 116 using 4.5 mm needles
hi! i knitted your fall bluff sweater with a dk weight yarn, but it looks like a rectangle when i try it on. is there any way to fix the rectangle and make it like a circle with the elastic? thank you!
I would try to do elastic at the top of the collar, that might help!
@@AshleyLillisKnits thanks so much!! i’ll try it out
It would be really useful if you could wear the sweater after each alteration.
👍
