I took clear fingernail polish and painted the edges of the paper. I let the page dry completely and then added them back to the binder. I only did it for the pages that I usually remove regularly. The edges have held up well with the polish.

I am A HUGE tul fan. I have easily spend over 500 on Tul products but I enjoy them a lot. If you think about it, that’s cheap compared to other hobbies. Such like project cars lol. Hobbies should be encouraged, we work to enjoy life. Not live to work.

I've been using discbound for well over a decade and don't have problems with papers staying in no matter how many times I add and remove. For the most part, all of the new notebooks come with 3/4" discs and then the 1", 1 1/2", and 2" are optional. I prefer the metal discs above the standard plastic discs and hope that TUL comes out with some because Office Depot is in town and everything else has to be ordered! lol Of all of the discbound, Levenger is most definitely the luxury brand. However, I have fallen in love with the TUL brand because they have been coming out with some wonderful limited edition covers and I get what I can so that I can switch out at any time.

good to know! I think Staples ARC system has metal discs? Levenger ones is pretty pricy but will want to give it a try :)

They have one in rose gold in the junior size. It was one of those limited edition notebooks. Then I saw a notebook that TUL came out with a notebook that flips upwards and limited edition pens.

I'm glad I saw your video because I was going to buy the TUL pockets to see if they were any better. I have the Arc pockets and the Arc pockets are the same! It's SO HARD to get paper in them without creasing it!! So unfortunately, it's not just a TUL issue. As for the paper fraying, I've moved pages more than once and I also see the fraying you mentioned BUT I've never lost a page or had them slide out. I don't have the ruler but I do have the self-stick note accessory (TUL's name for it - it's basically a piece of plastic with 5 mini post-it note pads on it). It's a pretty hard plastic like that ruler, and it seems like if it's moved around a lot, it would snap. I was trying to see if I liked it in the front vs the back and realized I needed to pick a spot and leave it! LOL!
I have a Junior Sized TUL notebook that I put Arc dividers and pockets in and I just did a comparison. The TUL stem is longer, but the Arc hole is bigger. My plan is to just put Arc notebook paper and dividers in the TUL notebook. Arc has a paper that looks like 'regular' filler paper that you would buy for a binder or find in a spiral notebook. It's the same weight as all the other papers they sell, so it's like a high quality 'regular' notebook paper. I can't find it on the Staples website but I found it in the store.
Also, TUL now has A5 notebooks in gunmetal gray and rose gold leather covers. They are SO nice! I stood in the store a long time trying to decide which one I wanted because both are gorgeous!
All that to say, thanks for the video! LOL!

They must have improved the product because I’m not having any problems with pocket inserts on junior or letter size…They must have been listening to you!

I buy 28lb paper for making my own pages.
i’m all in this discbound system! Drawing, calligraphy, notetaking, archiving, i used Happy Planner, Arc and Levenger. I love the Tul system most of all.
Regular gsm papers will not really be ideal, unless you washi tape the edges

The Levenger brand disc bound Circa offers edge reinforcement strips for pages that are frequently removed and reinserted.

I’ve spent as low as 5$ couponing at Office Depot for Tul leather notebooks. That’s how I’ve invested in the disbound system. I got the hole punch for 5$ I can understand if others have reservations about investing in something they’ve never used before... especially if its a price they have never seen

I have used the ARC system for several years and some TUL accessories and Levenger papers I love my ARC levenger is lovely but too expensive. I even converted my Erin Condren Daily planner to the disk system. The ruler is very sturdy and if you think you will move papers in and out frequently you can use clear nail polish along the edges let dry thoroughly and it will make the pages sturdier

Use thin tape to keep your paper edge from bending. Especially if you remove the paper often. Great review

I’ve been looking for what you mentioned. Do you mean taping the edges ? Sorry I’m new to these notebooks,

Maybe a strip of washi tape before you punch. There is definitely a trick to removing and readding paper within the book.. I’m getting better at it.

Love ur review.. What I have learned after using Arc and Martha Stewart discbound systems , is that the supplies can be mixed together .. I love there rings quality especially Arc .. so u can’t use other pieces from other discbound systems as accessories like dividers and paper holders.. the rings come in 1.5 sizes as well ... also what I realize with the hole puncher u can create ur own paper and little note pads ... just customize to ur liking

I've just started with the discbound system. I chose the ARC leather, in both sizes, because of the secretarial flap as opposed to the pockets on the TUL. Love the paper quality, but the slit or stem of the mushroom is short and seems that after time and use, would fray even faster. I have not had a chance to compare the two brands, but judging from your video, TUL has a longer stem. Oh, I have the 'Classic' size Happy Planner punch which has a longer stem and puts the mushroom hole further in. Seems more sturdy to me.
As for the pocket divider, my ARC is also tight. Since its made of plastic, I will try to put a few sheets and then warm up and stretch the plastic with a hair dryer. I just bought the metal discs from Staples yesterday, absolutely love them.

I understand what you mean about the thick rings! It does badly bend the paper

The happy planner has the long "stem" mushroom punch shape, which is better to prevent the tearing at the punched areas.

I bought my first one today - the smaller one. I am thinking maybe use the hole reinforcement that you get for traditional ring binders. Place them on the paper then punch it out. May help.

Now that I’m retired i thought I’d give up the professional look and get a Happy Planner. Beautiful, but I’m not a fan of the thin covers since I mostly write while sitting in the recliner. Also, it’s only October and it is hard to get the format i wanted.

    How u change the discs?

    • @elisabethryder4719
      @elisabethryder4719 Місяць тому +1

With some surprising difficulty... If you have a full notebook loaded on the discs, I haven't experienced it myself, but I believe the best method to change the discs would be to remove the papers gently in small sections until you can remove any covers or other attachments that remain. If you use the large, 2 inch discs, I could see that taking quite a bit of time unless ripping out the discs from all the papers all at once can be done without damaging the punched part that often frays as you remove and add pages repeatedly. I'd be interested in seeing what solutions other people have found for adding and removing discs. 🙂

Binders are not good for travelling...at all...okay maybe if you move it from one room to the other every month or so that's all right.
