Here is sports scientist Andrew Vigotsky explaining how to estimate hip extension moments during the hip thrust exercise using the floor reaction force vector (FRFV) method.
Wait .... did he just say this was very oversimplified? 🤣🤣 Oh my. Well thank my lucky stars there are people like him who understand this so that I get to walk away with the understanding that hip thrusts will make my butt bigger so I should do them. 😅
i've passed my entire introduction to biomechanics class thinking about how to make sense of hip thrusts (class exercises where much simpler and we learned that when the line of force passes through the joint then torque equals zero). now i'm happy with this video, even if I cant understand it haha thanks!
Honestly, what did I just watch? What was the question being answered? Why do we want it answered? Is this just an explanation that is proving something? Where and when would I apply this? These questions (I'm sure their are many other questions as well) answered would help everyone. Thank you.
"How to calculate the moment arm for the hip thrust." If you don't know what a moment arm is then it's understandable if this video probably makes no sense
@@biesman5 Hey brother, I apologize... I should have put that a bit more into context... My clients love him and watched his video and were very lost. While I totally understand the video, personally? (and I do feel I could be wrong) yet, pending on who his audience was to this video specific video... He might have lost the audience as I had several girls not understand it and I had to explain it. That was all.
The thing is, in order to see where the glute has the biggest moment arm, which is the moment at the hip here I guess, what do you do? How do you draw that? Because you can’t tell where the biggest challenge is here, can you? Missing info, or is the moment arm you use to see that the moment arm from the floor? Thanks!
@@fatymah1138 since asking this question I had incorporated the one full rep with 1 pump (kas) and it was the hardest workout I've done. I love it! I think bret calls it 1 1/4.
Brett, I’m finally getting over the embarrassment of doing these at the gym, I’m lifting heavy and I started eating meat again but I feel like my butt is shrinking? Is it normal for hips butt, thighs to shrink before they get built up?
How much protein are we talkin? There are a lot of factors that contribute to glute growth. Are you skinny and solely trying to gain glute muscle (not worried about losing belly fat), if so, I consider you lucky! Anyway, if you’re only worried about gaining glutes and don’t have belly to lose: make sure you’re taking in about a gram of protein per every body pound of weight daily - if you’re 130lbs, you want around 130g (clean) protein (or more) daily for optimal results. If you don’t gain belly fat easily, I recommend still maintaining calories too. With drinking lots of water, and mind to muscle connection is so important - if the form isn’t correct, you’re not targeting your glutes. Focus on adding a few more reps/couple more lbs of weight each week/biweekly to get stronger. You’ll see the results, but fueling your body correctly is essential. If you’re not used to this much protein or calories, you must slowly increase weekly.
I am going to assume that there is a very small percentage of your watchers who understand physics. For the rest of us, can you explain what we need to know in layman’s terms?
very intereting but the hip thrust is still a short range of motion. my understanding is that its best to work a muscle in its full range of motion. is that not so? please explain
I don’t understand how the force from a plate where your foot is on is any different from the force that would come from the floor that your foot would otherwise be on.
I think you're missing a term. How can a moment equal a force*moment? Wouldn't you have to divide by the force at the hip? That's like saying X=MX. Not a thing
I’m glad I’m not the only adult on planet earth with a 2nd grade drawing level… but no matter, this explains it perfectly! Thank you for this!
Basically a snapshot view of this. Great stuff! Looking forward to what’s next
This was genuinely a great video. Seems like many people disliked it because they didn't know what a moment arm is in the first place.
Yes, a lot of people don't understand what a moment arm is... Without that simple explanation the video loses a lot of the audience.
@@419er Interesting. Which parts were wrong, specifically?
Mi estimado Bred un gusto de nuevo el saber de ti y gracias por seguir compartiendo tus conocimientos
💪😃👍👍👍
This was an amazing video, I fully understand what he was trying to explain... 🤣
Please do the video of different workouts for upper glutes and lower glutes.

No. It doesn' t work. Just think what the glutes really need to work!
I still don’t understand?
I know and that was the overly simplified way 😰
Me neither...😄

This was a very disappointing video. Im doing hipthrusts today and I was actually excited when I saw the notification only to find this
Love your content think I’m going to try a month sign up
Finally all the f*cking force vectors things i learnt in my engineering are useful :)

@@jasoncenami So what was this video trying to say?
I would expect a minus sign in the formula since the moments rotate in opposite directions.
how much kg weight should i lift to gain muscle for beginner ? Number of sets and reps
hope you upload more youtube vids soon!!!

So?
How is this going to make me lift more, get stronger, bigger arsed and faster?
I wish you would post an article or video showing which is better the full range hip thrust or KAS.
both, why would you just wanna do one

Reverse Hyper OR Hip Thrust - which one is good

What was I supposed to learn from this? I'm sorry but I don't understand what the takeaway is?
I think this would be demonstrated way better with a 3d model, also the voice over needs more energy
This is a learning lesson not a spinning class. There's learning and there's entertainment. Maybe try TikTok 🤗

seriously what the heck is a moment arm???? No clue what this video is saying...
