From one scare actor to all these folks holding it down: you guys are the backbone of these events and the higher-ups don't reward your passion enough.
Last year I paid the extra money for the haunted houses, which consisted of a few sparsely-decorated, darkened hallways and maybe one or two scare actors or guides. I liked walking around the park and looking at all the costumes and scare zones, but the haunted houses were a huge rip-off. Fright fest is more for people who wanna ride roller coasters and see cool stuff in between rides.. You'd be better off paying $20 to support your local haunt, which is a fraction of the cost and better than anything you'd see at six flags.

This gives me a new sort of appreciation to work at a haunt with effective scares. Some of these set design moments were not giving great opportunities for a jump, but big props to these actors for working with what they were given.
Definitely a $30 experience. That's what you'd see for an average scream park. The Scare Actors did great for what they were given, but they need proper training. The enthusiasm is there, but not the experience. There are methods and techniques to avoid the monotony of just screaming when someone walks by. It's pretty much the equivalent of "Boo". A script for the actors to follow can work wonders. Not their fault. Management is at fault. Tons of dead space in the haunts, so they for sure need more actors. They were not ready to handle those IPs.
I can't imagine anything more awkward and embarrassing than being an actor for a fright, and trying to scare someone for it only to fall completely flat
Thanks for this video, you saved us so much money. We were going to fly up to the New Jersey Six Flags next month to go my cousins and after seeing this, I can only imagine how much worse that one would be! You guys just looked mortified by that experience….plus I know it was like 100-degrees this weekend!
I will always says Knott's Scary Farm is the bar setter for Halloween events & one of the big reasons is their lovingly crafted original ideas for houses. I agree the original houses here were way more fun than the IP houses. Also, the scare actors seem top notch in personality & energy! They deserve extra pay & all the respect of guests 🖤🎃 Scare actors really make or break an event... And maybe snacks 🤤🫶 Edit: I went to San Antonio Six Flag's Scare Fest (or whatever) in 2020, & while it was obviously lower budget than HHN or KSF, it was still great fun for the original IPs.
They definitely aren't ready... There was lots of missing audio, they need more scares inside the housea bc most of the time was just walking and flashing lights, and the stranger things house was extremely embarrassing when you look at hhn's house bc holy moly..... Fright fest has never been something that is talked about much in general bc it's always like this. Also the fight at the end is just everyday six flags guests behavior:D
The Oz scare zone was great! I do hope that whoever holds the rights to The Conjuring will see how terrible this was & let Universal take a swing at it one year. Kevin, if you ever want to experience a low-budget but surprisingly scary haunt come over to Baton Rouge, Louisiana's 13 Gates!! It's better than Frighy Fest. Or you could even go to New Orleans- there's a year-round haunted house with crazyyyyy scare actors!
It's so funny how all these people on Instagram in July were like "Horror Nights sucks this year, I'm going to Six Flags cuz of dem sweet IPs". I feel like 6F should just stay away from houses and just make the park one big scare zone for the season. The street actors were pretty great! Thanks for covering this event. New subscriber here.
@@7Lace77 Intellectual Properties. Franchises/characters that are not public domain. In this context we mean mazes that are based off movies/TV shows/games/whatever rather than something the parks came up with themselves.
Props to the scare actors. You can tell they are doing their best. They should learn the lesson of doing original houses, and dropping the costly IP's. This looked ... entertaining in the worst of ways.
I did. The same thing…. We all walked across the park to check eveythjng out. Got in line and the worker asked for my wrist band. I was extremely annoyed to have to walk all the way back and wait in line for 20 min just to get a wrist band where they could have literally checked our tickets and just handed us our wrist bands at the front gate. I’ve had a few questions, from parking price comparisons, to how to get my disability pass ( I’m a disabled veteran) to even just how to do simple things. And it seemed like almost non of the workers even knew simple park questions let alone fright fest things. Six flags is a nightmare compared to almost every other park out there
As someone who works in a haunt, this made me sad. Like, the ambiance could've been better, i keep seeing actors pop out late, some of them look like they don't even wanna be there. Like if i went into work at my haunt, and had late scares or little enthusiasm, theyd send me home and fill that spot with someone who DOES feel excited. And everything felt predictable. I saw that girls hands in the wall slats and immediately knew shed had a popscare on the other side and that's exactly what happened. The settings look so weak even in comparison to my haunt i work at which is DEFINITELY not wealthy. And the zones feel EMPTY. Like i keep seeing one or two actors in a zone. Its just sad. Events like this give good haunts a bad rep. I keep also noticing that after the actors do their "bit", they just walk back into their scare boxes, where i work, youre told CONSTANTLY, stay in character. So instead of just walking back behind your curtain, youre encouraged to find a way to make your reset scary, or at least keep it in character. It just all feels so lazy. Like some of the actors didnt even talk they just popped out and stood there. Like im sorry, if i tried to do that at my haunt, id stop getting shifts. Because even if you don't have built in lines, youre encouraged to make the character yours to some extent and figure out how best to play that role. We just had opening weekend last weekend and it was way better than this. So saying its because its opening weekend is irrelevant
Was thinking about going to Fright Fest in NJ at Great Adventure. I think you just saved me a couple hundred bucks. Will use that money for merch and food/drinks at HHN
Oh my goodness. 1. I AM SO SORRY THIS EXPERIENCE SUCKED SO BAD WTF 2. I wanted to comment because video hit me with a wave of really awesome nostalgia. I haven't been to magic mountain in almost 20 years. & My parents took me to Magic Mountain a lot while I was younger and we accidentally stayed later when the scare actors came out one year. I remember being around 8 and getting really scared at Fright Nights parade of scare sliders sliding down, the scarecrows swinging things while walking down and really freaking me out as a kid!! You unlocked a core memory of me crying into my dad's shoulder until we were able to leave hahahaha, but also just really enjoying my time at this specific place growing up. Later on I ended up becoming a real fan of both horror & being as scared as I was that night. It's so cool to see. Again, sorry the experience was a mixed bag but - truly, thank you! I'm glad I stumbled on this channel. :D
Southern California boy here born and raised and I’ve been going to Fright Fest since I was in high school…they typically deliver - I think ever since they started introducing IPs the mazes suffer tremendously. Six Flags made some really big promises at Midsummer and it’s sad to see they were empty.
The Conjuring "maze" was probably the best out of the 2/3 things that were actually opened. That doesn't say much though, because it was still pretty "meh" 😬🤷
i am 10 minutes in and holy crap, as an actual haunt actor, i would be pissed to have paid over $100 for actors to just step out in front of me and do nothing 😭😂 do these folks get 0 training????
I just love how fyre festival was SO BAD its become the bar that every other dumpster fire of an event is judged by. I think dashcon could also be used here. As they are asking for so much but then again they had no ball pit and no one pissed in it.
Definitely a case of "hey we're a theme park, let's do a Halloween event!" and then not care at all. The scare actors gave it their all and clearly had some fun with it despite the whole thing falling apart opening night and that I respect highly. Now if you really wanna see some small local theme park pull a Halloween event right, Lake Compounce. It's my home park so I'm a little bias but for a small theme they bring it full force
It looks like the returning mazes, the ones Magic Mountain crews are responsible for were amazing! The new ones, that corporate Cedar Fair made them do, and were done by out side teams and designers, were defiantly not ready. Not enough time or money were given by Cedar Fair and made the whole event look bad. Congratulations to the local crew, venders and all the cast that did what they could!
Seattle local here--I can confirm as someone who's been to six flags wildwaves' fright fest MULTIPLE times that it is THE dashcon of haunt events. 10 times worse than this. One time a scare actor scared my dad and failed to do so and went "you're supposed to be scared, man", me and a group of friends got jumped by an angry 12 year old, the scare actors don't understand scare etiquette and mock small children that were very clearly dragged in by their parents and scared shitless instead of leaving them alone (I went in one of the most intense houses when i was 11 and was taunted things like "aww, are you gonna cry?"), and the rides are almost never all open. Oh, and it didn't look HALF as good as this one here at magic mountain. Looked more like a sad birthday party most of the guests forgot to attend. Just save your money and fly to knotts or universal
I had high hopes with cedar fair coming in but damn that’s sad! I went in 2019 and even opening night and all the houses were open, to have so many houses closed is sad!
You'd all love the Dutch themeparks Toverland and Walibi Holland's halloween events. All houses are original themes. No licenses. So great production value
3 houses closed? I would think that would call for a partial refund. Hope they are learning from all these mistakes and push back the opening next year as they were clearly not ready.
I’ve gone to fright fest a few times and 2023 we went the first week it opened and none of the IPs were open. We were extremely upset. Thankfully we flew out to attend HHN and Freight Fest so the trip wasn’t a total bust. We are flying out to HHN next month, still unsure if we’ll attend Freight Fest this year.
Been a fan of the Willoughby experiences since I was a wee lad getting into Haunt events so it’s nice to see they’re still putting lots of love into that. It’s sad to see the state of Fright Fest nowadays, but I’m glad all of the crew and talent are killing it (no pun intended).
Usually Netflix takes such care of their IP in theme parks al a Stranger Things at HHN, but this event makes me wonder what the hell the team at Netflix was doing! No offense to any of the actors, prop-makers and set designers but my god that “house” was a mess!!! Edit: I’d still argue Knott’s Scary Farm is almost up to the level of Universal and only Knott’s could remain equal!
My local park is Six Flags Great Adventure and they open this friday. I'm also very cautious about how good the event will be or if the mazes will all be open as well because last year the same problem happened with just Saw and the Conjuring as the only IPs they were testing the waters with. I've also seen pictures of where our Stranger Things maze is going to be and personally the building looks very small so I have no idea how they're going to fit everything in well either.
Sheesh, No wonder why i want to see a Sonic the Hedgehog roller coaster at Six Flags parks starting with Six Flags Magic Mountain in response to Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood.
This is how my visit to Great Adventure in Jersey was this summer, except there were no haunts, it was just every ride I went to was closed, and no worker knew what was going on with anything. Workers would literally tell you the opposite of what actually was going on all day. Horrible park.
The standards for Six Flags are so varied. Im lucky to live near Fiesta Texas, which is top tier. All the houses are open and ready, scare zones are fun, and there is always an Octoberfest with it. good on you for trying Six Flags.

@@doctorvondoom5797 Yep, i know that. I cannot wait as a Mario fan. As a Sonic fan, I would love to see a Sonic the Hedgehog roller coaster with multi launch, loops, corkscrews and inversions at Six Flags parks starting with Six Flags Magic Mountain.
They were not ready to handle those IPs.
glad you liked condemned, we are having fun in there!
Feel bad that the actors have to talk and scream all night in the houses rather than pre recorded stuff over the speakers
There's a time and place for it.
I can't imagine anything more awkward and embarrassing than being an actor for a fright, and trying to scare someone for it only to fall completely flat
Shout out to the actors who really gave it their all and did their best to make experiences special for customers.
Thanks for this video, you saved us so much money. We were going to fly up to the New Jersey Six Flags next month to go my cousins and after seeing this, I can only imagine how much worse that one would be! You guys just looked mortified by that experience….plus I know it was like 100-degrees this weekend!
Seems like they put all of their budget into the Wizard of Oz Scarezone 💀
Okay, but those scare actors? Awesome stuff. Looks like it'd be fun to play one of those characters!
Wish you showed the food prices. $19 hot dogs.
Six Flags parks are already enough of a nightmare without the Halloween season crowds...
And maybe snacks 🤤🫶
Edit: I went to San Antonio Six Flag's Scare Fest (or whatever) in 2020, & while it was obviously lower budget than HHN or KSF, it was still great fun for the original IPs.
Also the fight at the end is just everyday six flags guests behavior:D
the fight was the most intense thing they caught on camera that night
My favorite maze in Universal the last time I went was a non-IP maze called Holidays in Hell. It was so good they brought it back
People should just go to knotts scary farm
By far the best of the 3
What are IPs?
@@7Lace77 Intellectual Properties. Franchises/characters that are not public domain. In this context we mean mazes that are based off movies/TV shows/games/whatever rather than something the parks came up with themselves.
@@FatherTime89 Ohh ok.👍I figured it was movies n such from other comments, just couldn't figure out IP.
It’s obvious that they’re well known for putting their heart and soul into their original houses than the IPs they bought, besides Saw
Six flags is a nightmare compared to almost every other park out there
Thank you for your public service. I keep telling my friends to avoid this event so now I can just show them this video
Well, you didn’t get a party city vecna but that decapitated head in the water jug sure is from party city! 😂 I bought one earlier this year
Was thinking about going to Fright Fest in NJ at Great Adventure. I think you just saved me a couple hundred bucks. Will use that money for merch and food/drinks at HHN
That is still a solid park even if the Halloween event isn't great
Standard ticket for FF at GA right now is 65, not 100, if you buy online.
Same! My wife and I were thinking about going to Six Flags for Halloween and after seeing this video we’re gonna look elsewhere
They didn't even open yet in NJ, shame it's only a preview last 2 weeks. They aren't ready at all
Oh my goodness.
Fellow SoCal here went this year and I preferred all the non IPs honestly
Boy that upside down bar "theming" lmao
the scareactors were clearly doing a great job with what they were given, but hooooly, the descriptor of "the fyre fest of haunt events" is SO REAL
That was painful to watch 😂
People at the end fighting to get their money back
The Conjuring "maze" was probably the best out of the 2/3 things that were actually opened. That doesn't say much though, because it was still pretty "meh" 😬🤷
Makes you grateful for Universal Studios Florida HHN.
These poor scare actors in the mazes. Their voices are going to be gone by next week 💀🤣
11:19 The munchkin skeletons 🤣😂🤣😂
13:13 The Witch's friendship bracelet says "PHILIP" 😭😂
16:57 I didn’t know Kevin was a scare actor for six flags😂
i am 10 minutes in and holy crap, as an actual haunt actor, i would be pissed to have paid over $100 for actors to just step out in front of me and do nothing 😭😂 do these folks get 0 training????
The scare actors are giving Spooky Comedian Energy
You filming the fight at the end killed me 💀
It looks like the returning mazes, the ones Magic Mountain crews are responsible for were amazing! The new ones, that corporate Cedar Fair made them do, and were done by out side teams and designers, were defiantly not ready. Not enough time or money were given by Cedar Fair and made the whole event look bad. Congratulations to the local crew, venders and all the cast that did what they could!
This reminds me of my first experience with Busch gardens!! It was like 2 scare actors per house. I asked for my money back
Seattle local here--I can confirm as someone who's been to six flags wildwaves' fright fest MULTIPLE times that it is THE dashcon of haunt events.
I went in 2019 and even opening night and all the houses were open, to have so many houses closed is sad!
the costume designers, actors, and makeup artists are doing so well especially with what theyve been given to work with otherwise
Thanks for taking another hit for the family ❤
Hats off to using Mombi from the terrifying Return To Oz.
It is the scariest Oz movie
My local park is Six Flags Great Adventure and they open this friday. I'm also very cautious about how good the event will be or if the mazes will all be open as well because last year the same problem happened with just Saw and the Conjuring as the only IPs they were testing the waters with. I've also seen pictures of where our Stranger Things maze is going to be and personally the building looks very small so I have no idea how they're going to fit everything in well either.
So glad my girl and I are going to Knott’s and not this sad excuse for a ‘haunt’…
So six flags fright fest is the great value of HHN
I was just about to say the same thing. I also live near Fiesta Texas and know theirs is top tier, I’m not one to get easily scared but am scared at theirs.
