Featuring one of Miami's and Florida's worst hurricane, Andrew. This again reinstates the phrase "It only takes one." Even though it might only be one, it showed how inactive but life-changing, deadly, and damaging a season could be. Truly a year to go into the books.
1992 had an active Pacific as well. Notable storm in the EPAC is Iniki. Although it is a Central Pacific storm, I personally call Iniki the Andrew of the EPAC.

Andrew was one of four hurricanes to make landfall in the US at category 5 strength in recorded history, the others being The 1935 Labor Day Hurricane, Hurricane Camille and Hurricane Michael.

It was also the costliest hurricane (and tropical cyclone for that matter) until Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A fairly inactive season due to an El Niño that helped suppress the activity in the Atlantic and also made the EPAC have its most active season recorded.*
Ok I'm gonna tell you guys a story. So basically back in 1992. Where one of my oldest cousins in my family were in Miami at the time. During hurricane Andrew they lived in a Miami apartment. Despite 160+ mph winds in their vicinity. They still managed to survive the strongest Storm surges and winds. On the other hand their apartment was ruined. Their living area was destroyed down on the ground. Then a while after hurricane Andrew passed. They then moved to Orlando where my parents in that timeframe just arrived back in 2000. After my parents arrived in Florida they then began to create me and raise me in Orlando Florida.
Man... Hurricane Andrew was "The Little Engine That Could!" That little Dynamo formed, and developed a very strong central core, even early on. It fought against everything that was thrown in it's path, and developed into a Low-End Category 5 Hurricane, that tore through Central Florida like a Buzzsaw! Even after it crossed Florida, it only weakened to a Category 4 Hurricane, vabd hit farther up towards Louisiana, later on that week.
Fun fact: sub-tropical storm “One” first storm of season was the first ever storm to form in April Fun fact #2: sub-tropical storm “One” was unnamed. Because it was sub-tropical. It wasn’t until 2002 when people started naming it. So sub-tropical “One” was supposed to be named “Andrew” meaning that Andrew was supposed to be named “Bonnie”
I could not imagine if Hurricane Dorian made landfall in Florida at it's peak intensity, anything would have be leveled if Dorian came onshore as a 185 MPH Category 5.
