I was really happy at the Sabo line, because it was finally showing a bit of teeth to the Revolutionaries. That faction's needed something to differentiate themselves from the nicer pirate crews for ages and the steps taken in this chapter, being willing to starve people out and seeing Cobra's death as a net gain, imply a ruthlessness and a big picture viewpoint that are potentially at odds with the Strawhat philosophy and One Piece's core thesis. I don't know if there's room for a debate or disagreement at this late date but I'd love to see something come of the strained ambivalence Luffy and his father have had towards each other all series.
I like the mindset, but I dislike that being framed for Cobra's death has so far been nothing BUT a net gain for Revolutionaries. It's like Buggy's failing forward minus the gag.

There is also an argument a big scoop would potentially also simply sell more than a cover up fee. I get a mix of media coverage and just the scale of the OP world means you are bound to have a large populations who know Cobra as little more than just another king and may impose their bias from their own experience, but the kingdom loved him, multiple kings held him in high regard, and even Dragon knew he was a good guy. Which reinforces the idea he was also well know and respected. Which makes his death being essentially a boon a bit vexing for me.
Sabo obviously wasn’t happy about what happened. That said, he seems to believe that it’s better that his death helps light the fires of revolution, instead of being in vain. So I’m going to assume that he couldn’t do anything to stop it, and is just happy that it wasn’t a total loss.

I might be misremembering, but I swear they already stated that the admirals couldn't go all out because they were protecting the Celestial dragons. A vague memory tells me it was Garp on Fishman Island who said it, but I am not sure.
I didn't think the ending was bland at all, in fact it almost made me cry. Because it felt like Cobra was truly saying "I know I will die, there's no use staying to save me. Just go protect my daughter".

I feel like it's so impressive that Odas world building was so good that basically no one questioned an entire new faction being introduced this late into the game with basically no foreshadowing.
I think one piece will become a piece of art that will be studied for generations to come in the literary world, and oda definitely deserves every bit of that praise and title 🙌
Really though, as an english teacher, I used Oda and one piece as an example of foreshadowing and like half of my class I know for a fact, will NEVER forget how powerful foreshadowing can be, and loved the connection to anime in general.

The Doflamingo cover page is a nice reference to his status. He sees himself on the fallen bird. Once up high up the tree/red line living as a god and now down on the earth unable to return back to its nest.

I got massive „The Truth of the Reverie, Part 1“ vibes from this chapter. Which isn‘t a Bad thing, sometimes what you want to tell just exceeds your limited amount page space.
The whole siege tactic on Mary Goose makes me wonder about Luffy's reaction to it. While the nobles are in fact terrible people, they are still bystanders in a greater battle. Luffy wants everyone to eat and party, so I can't help but feel that he's going to have some kind of problem with this choice of warfare.
I love how Fujitora was like screw it all I'm dropping bombs right here right now and Aramaki like nah broh then Oda blue balling us again giving us more questions than answers lol plus awesome to see the rest of CP9 again as CP0 also Sabo with a few good men did that thang
Oh I do love the Deep Space 9 reference. One of the absolute best Star Trek episodes in the franchise. The ending, with Sisko deadpanning into the camera, still gives me chills.
I love the fact that they showed dragons strategy wasn’t to just attack with brute force and just win by being stronger then them I love that they showed that he’s actually a strategic and smart leader that actually understands war. Unfortunately most movies or shows just depict armies winning by being better fighters or they only show the battles and nothing else that happens during a war but many battles and wars were won without even fighting,they were won with tactics like the ones dragon is employing such as harassing their supply lines and using propaganda to turn allies against them so he’s cutting off tony only their food supplies but also their finances. I really like that oda showed this because these issues r a huge part of war and most shows and movies don’t show u this. This is a huge reason y I loved game of thrones as well because instead of just showing the cool battles and the hero winning wars they showed the tedious side of being a king like dealing with financial troubles and the bickering of the lords under your control. Also during the war between the steaks and Lannister’s they showed how even though Robb never lost a battle he was losing the war because his men were disgruntled and demoralized. Again not only does this show the realities of war but it also shows that dragon isn’t a great leader just because he’s the most powerful and he isn’t gonna win just because he can physically win in a fight but because he understands how to wage war and strategize and he understands the psychology of people.
Favorite revelation of this chapter, and there were a lot of them, was Karasu's Devil Fruit. Soot is definitely a substance that can be generated, manipulated, and can become useful in the right hands, much more substantial than actual birds for transport too. Speaking of fruit, that tactical move to destroy food supply channels to Marie Joie was genius, utilizing the tactics they use to deprive the world of resources against them, among other things to subvert and subdue the current governmental system. Poor Cobra, lying dead on the ground, but hurrah for Morgans publishing the story that created another emperor for our final battle roster, "Flame Emperor" Sabo. P.S. I wonder if we will ever return to the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia series. Trebol's Betta Betta no Mi is by no means where the entries end. We have seen at least 11 impressive fruits in Whole Cake Island alone that have not been covered yet; Pekoms and Baron Tamago's fruits are already there, but we only know as much as we do about them because of their use in the Whole Cake Island arc.
Don't let the Shanks Shadow figure distract you from the fact that Oda is trying to make a new character similar to him to put off Shanks isn't Evil. When really he is!!!
I mean those shadow characters look a lot like Shanks crew, especially the 2 on the left looking like Bonk Punch with Monster on his shoulders with his tail down, and the lower one looks like it might have Yasopps hair. Could be a great misdirection, which is what I'm kinda hoping for.

as good as the chapter is for the revolutionary army my favourite part was seeing all the other members of cp9, such an emotional reference for me. I love all those characters and their unique designs, powers and personalities
It’s honestly pretty bad situation for Fuji and Greenbull. I think Aokiji or Kizaru if dispatched to the holy land has a better time simply because their powers can be isolated. Fuji and greenbull would struggle as they are more AOE attacks. Still Greenbull shouldn’t have struggled cause of his roots but somehow he did 😭😂
Am I the only one who thought Cobra was secretly Imu and was just really good at hiding it from Vivi and everyone else. I mean his family was originally world nobles and "turned it down", what if instead he became Imu.

All were commonly referred to as 'Princes', regardless of their historical titles. In French they are called "Les Neuf Preux" or "Nine Valiants" The Nine Worthies include three pagans (Hector, Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar), three Jews (Joshua, David and Judas Maccabeus) and three Christians (King Arthur, Charlemagne and Godfrey of Bouillon). I think it suits quite well the thematic of knight, and Godhood, and I wonder if Oda will take inspiration from this.
I think this chapter could be Oda taking the opportunity to get some annoying fan discourse of his chest. The dialogue between the admirals can be seen as a middle finger to people arguing it's bad writing that the admirals couldn't handle the revolutionary force, and if subsequently the silhouette turns out not to be Shanks or a clone it could be Oda poking fun at the Evil Shanks theory
The admirals still should've been able to deal with the revolutionary with no problem though, we've seen many examples of powerful and potent attacks that don't have an aoe. Akainu managed to take off half of whitebeards head and kill ace without using destructive power.
@@psychosocial2443 Consider this: if the Revolutionaries, which unlike the Yonko crews who were content to just hunker down in their territories, were actually going around actively trying to destabilize the WG, which surely attracted more ire from the WG, then why haven't they been wiped out yet? Just because the Revs haven't been given much screentime until recently doesn't mean that they can't be on par with the Marines strength-wise. Admirals have been introduced and placed on a pedestal for majority of the series' run, it makes sense that they'd finally be knocked down a peg as we close in to the endgame as even more threats are going to be introduced from here on.
@@randot6675 The reason we were given for the admirals not being able to take them out wasn't because the revs were on par with admirals, but because the admirals couldn't go all out at mariejois. Oda made that clear multiple times, the problem is that the explanation doesn't hold up because we've seen many examples of characters being able to control destructive force while still being the same level of threat. In one of the most recent chapters we saw arguably one of the strongest attacks from shanks and it only took out kid and his crew without causing massive destruction.
Idk what to make of the Holy Knights. It looks like it could be Shanks, but the end scabbard for his sword has an extra piece on it and the handle seems to have an extra piece too above it. It does kinda look like the Red Haired Pirates, except the very tall one has an antenna or hair sticking out so maybe its Lucky Roux with his bandana sticking out of the knot. Go look at the pictures and the tall Knight on the far left looks like Bonk Punch with Monster on his shoulders minus the tail, and the one below that looks like Yasopps hair. It should be noted Oda does alter his original silhouettes a little from their first appearances, and this could be a redirection to clones of all of the emperors of the sea plus Rocks and Rogers or 2 others that Shanks had to possibly overtake like Luffy has done to Big Mom and Kaido. Could also be spies from around the world on top pirate crews/some of the top knights in the world for individual kingdoms. I have a feeling we know who some of them are though. Then again at this point I've been wondering if Oda is using this time to really mess with readers a couple last times, I think one of his favorite things is to make the online community wild with conspiracies just for him to smack us upside the faces with a dose of Oda reality.
My favorite part was seeing Fujitora charge his CO Power Second favorite part was imagining the celestial dragons suffering. Which is an awful thing to think! But it just shows how well they're written as heels!
The Silouette is Shanks' twin brother, calling it now. Setting up a mirror match with Shanks would be one of the most series defining battles possible. Especially because I see Shanks joining the race to warn everyone ABOUT the Holy Knights.
Interesting speculation, that could mean that Shanks really is from the Figarland family (probably a celestial dragon family) so he would have world noble heritage make for an interesting character background considering that Shanks is a pirate. Which could explain how he was able to meet up with the Gorosei so casually....
In any case, the Holy Knights (God's Knights) seem interesting. They might have a person who is strong as an Yonko member or an Admiral, but overall this makes me more excited for the Void Century tbh.
Makes me wonder if we'll eventually have the gaps filled in where the red head pirates went from the beginning to present connecting all those juicy little nuggets of information into a full blown feast!
Karasu being a soot logia was a nice revelation. I wonder if his fruit is the logia that is above Crocodile's sand logia in the hierarchy of powers like magma being stronger than fire, ice stronger than snow, etc... My initial reaction was to think of the soot fruit being more along the lines of Smoker's power, but I think that the smoke power is probably going to be treated more like the inferior version of Caesar's gas fruit. And the soot particles in this chapter did look a bit sand-ish when Karasu reformed his body. But I could have this completely wrong or backwards. Regardless, very cool devil fruit and the way Karasu uses the power is incredibly unique!
Is soot something like trimmed carbon? I'm not familiar with the word, but the other DF have a superiority relation because they include the later ability while having a higher ceiling + extra abilities. For example, magma not only burns hotter than fire and can also have a tangible form to cause even more damage, it has uses even solidified, and perfectly counters Ice (while fire is tied). Ice can get to lower temperatures than snow while completely freezing opponents instead of making them sleepy. Gas includes smoke but also dominates any other gaslike substance. Don't forget awakened Ope Ope completely coping Rosinante's fruit abilities as well.

One of my favorite things about one piece is how deep we the community take theories and connections. And I'm almost positive half of them are just coincidence on odas part or he only made the 2 things connect so it would make sense like he didn't plan on said connection being as mind blowing as we end up making it. Like with the silhouettes we're all freaking out and oda just wants to draw probably a couple serious looking guys and a couple funny looking guys. Classic one piece energy

Anyway, while we're at the subject of devil fruits, I think what many people dont get about Logia and why there is a debate about, for example, Katakuri's is that Logia powers are "nature-like". So they either bestow elemental powers as we know it or a concept that occurs in nature like the Forest or the Swamp fruit. Mochi is something humanity thought of, that is why it's not a logia fruit. Soot can occur naturally since all you need is a fire for that just like smoke. And as far as I know the "nature-like" attribute of Logias has been true with every canon Logia so far.
Crows in real live can mimic human speech by pushing air through their beak like an instrument. It’s the same why most birds make noise so that’s likely how the soot crows speak too. That and with kin’Amons fart talking ability being a thing I think it works lol

The reverie to me is similar to pre timeskips build up of ace vs blackbeard a secondary story in the background of the main story that eventually comes back to effect the main story

Is it possible he made a deal with the World Government to not go after it, and it never said he wasn't playing the government either for full access to their information. Including notifications when they found the Nika fruit and Luffy did just eat it by mistake, remember the fruits have a will of their own as its been said many times. Hopefully we will find out all of this in time one way or another.

Next chapter… I’m so ready to see IMU. Ever since IMU has been introduced I’ve literally been like that’s the finally villain. There is something haunting about him/her and I can’t wait to get some major truth bombs next chapter in relation to poneglyphs/void century. (That’s clearly what Cobra is asking about as he stated on their ship headed to the Reverie before Whole Cake). Ever since the conversation with Nico Robin at the end of Alabasta, it seems it’s been really bugging Cobra. I can already predict that the Holy Knights are all Shanks' family and have the rest of the supreme grade swords, the reason Shanks' was abandoned was because his genes somehow contradicted our beliefs and he was fed a devil fruit but it completely cancelled out and didnt work
If it does turn out that there is a Shankstwo then we no longer have a reason to believe the person who wanted to talk to the Gorosei about "a certain pirate" was Shanks. Which would mean we no longer could be sure of who said it or who it was said about.

I feel like it's so impressive that Odas world building was so good that basically no one questioned an entire new faction being introduced this late into the game with basically no foreshadowing.
I think one piece will become a piece of art that will be studied for generations to come in the literary world, and oda definitely deserves every bit of that praise and title 🙌
Really though, as an english teacher, I used Oda and one piece as an example of foreshadowing and like half of my class I know for a fact, will NEVER forget how powerful foreshadowing can be, and loved the connection to anime in general.

I got massive „The Truth of the Reverie, Part 1“ vibes from this chapter. Which isn‘t a Bad thing, sometimes what you want to tell just exceeds your limited amount page space.
The whole siege tactic on Mary Goose makes me wonder about Luffy's reaction to it. While the nobles are in fact terrible people, they are still bystanders in a greater battle. Luffy wants everyone to eat and party, so I can't help but feel that he's going to have some kind of problem with this choice of warfare.
I love how Fujitora was like screw it all I'm dropping bombs right here right now and Aramaki like nah broh then Oda blue balling us again giving us more questions than answers lol plus awesome to see the rest of CP9 again as CP0 also Sabo with a few good men did that thang
Oh I do love the Deep Space 9 reference. One of the absolute best Star Trek episodes in the franchise. The ending, with Sisko deadpanning into the camera, still gives me chills.
I love the fact that they showed dragons strategy wasn’t to just attack with brute force and just win by being stronger then them I love that they showed that he’s actually a strategic and smart leader that actually understands war. Unfortunately most movies or shows just depict armies winning by being better fighters or they only show the battles and nothing else that happens during a war but many battles and wars were won without even fighting,they were won with tactics like the ones dragon is employing such as harassing their supply lines and using propaganda to turn allies against them so he’s cutting off tony only their food supplies but also their finances. I really like that oda showed this because these issues r a huge part of war and most shows and movies don’t show u this. This is a huge reason y I loved game of thrones as well because instead of just showing the cool battles and the hero winning wars they showed the tedious side of being a king like dealing with financial troubles and the bickering of the lords under your control. Also during the war between the steaks and Lannister’s they showed how even though Robb never lost a battle he was losing the war because his men were disgruntled and demoralized. Again not only does this show the realities of war but it also shows that dragon isn’t a great leader just because he’s the most powerful and he isn’t gonna win just because he can physically win in a fight but because he understands how to wage war and strategize and he understands the psychology of people.
Favorite revelation of this chapter, and there were a lot of them, was Karasu's Devil Fruit. Soot is definitely a substance that can be generated, manipulated, and can become useful in the right hands, much more substantial than actual birds for transport too. Speaking of fruit, that tactical move to destroy food supply channels to Marie Joie was genius, utilizing the tactics they use to deprive the world of resources against them, among other things to subvert and subdue the current governmental system. Poor Cobra, lying dead on the ground, but hurrah for Morgans publishing the story that created another emperor for our final battle roster, "Flame Emperor" Sabo.
P.S. I wonder if we will ever return to the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia series. Trebol's Betta Betta no Mi is by no means where the entries end. We have seen at least 11 impressive fruits in Whole Cake Island alone that have not been covered yet; Pekoms and Baron Tamago's fruits are already there, but we only know as much as we do about them because of their use in the Whole Cake Island arc.

as good as the chapter is for the revolutionary army my favourite part was seeing all the other members of cp9, such an emotional reference for me. I love all those characters and their unique designs, powers and personalities
It’s honestly pretty bad situation for Fuji and Greenbull. I think Aokiji or Kizaru if dispatched to the holy land has a better time simply because their powers can be isolated. Fuji and greenbull would struggle as they are more AOE attacks. Still Greenbull shouldn’t have struggled cause of his roots but somehow he did 😭😂
Am I the only one who thought Cobra was secretly Imu and was just really good at hiding it from Vivi and everyone else. I mean his family was originally world nobles and "turned it down", what if instead he became Imu.

I think it suits quite well the thematic of knight, and Godhood, and I wonder if Oda will take inspiration from this.

I think this chapter could be Oda taking the opportunity to get some annoying fan discourse of his chest. The dialogue between the admirals can be seen as a middle finger to people arguing it's bad writing that the admirals couldn't handle the revolutionary force, and if subsequently the silhouette turns out not to be Shanks or a clone it could be Oda poking fun at the Evil Shanks theory
The admirals still should've been able to deal with the revolutionary with no problem though, we've seen many examples of powerful and potent attacks that don't have an aoe. Akainu managed to take off half of whitebeards head and kill ace without using destructive power.

@@psychosocial2443 Consider this: if the Revolutionaries, which unlike the Yonko crews who were content to just hunker down in their territories, were actually going around actively trying to destabilize the WG, which surely attracted more ire from the WG, then why haven't they been wiped out yet? Just because the Revs haven't been given much screentime until recently doesn't mean that they can't be on par with the Marines strength-wise. Admirals have been introduced and placed on a pedestal for majority of the series' run, it makes sense that they'd finally be knocked down a peg as we close in to the endgame as even more threats are going to be introduced from here on.
@@randot6675 The reason we were given for the admirals not being able to take them out wasn't because the revs were on par with admirals, but because the admirals couldn't go all out at mariejois. Oda made that clear multiple times, the problem is that the explanation doesn't hold up because we've seen many examples of characters being able to control destructive force while still being the same level of threat. In one of the most recent chapters we saw arguably one of the strongest attacks from shanks and it only took out kid and his crew without causing massive destruction.
Idk what to make of the Holy Knights. It looks like it could be Shanks, but the end scabbard for his sword has an extra piece on it and the handle seems to have an extra piece too above it.
It does kinda look like the Red Haired Pirates, except the very tall one has an antenna or hair sticking out so maybe its Lucky Roux with his bandana sticking out of the knot. Go look at the pictures and the tall Knight on the far left looks like Bonk Punch with Monster on his shoulders minus the tail, and the one below that looks like Yasopps hair.
It should be noted Oda does alter his original silhouettes a little from their first appearances, and this could be a redirection to clones of all of the emperors of the sea plus Rocks and Rogers or 2 others that Shanks had to possibly overtake like Luffy has done to Big Mom and Kaido. Could also be spies from around the world on top pirate crews/some of the top knights in the world for individual kingdoms. I have a feeling we know who some of them are though. Then again at this point I've been wondering if Oda is using this time to really mess with readers a couple last times, I think one of his favorite things is to make the online community wild with conspiracies just for him to smack us upside the faces with a dose of Oda reality.

The Silouette is Shanks' twin brother, calling it now. Setting up a mirror match with Shanks would be one of the most series defining battles possible. Especially because I see Shanks joining the race to warn everyone ABOUT the Holy Knights.
Interesting speculation, that could mean that Shanks really is from the Figarland family (probably a celestial dragon family) so he would have world noble heritage make for an interesting character background considering that Shanks is a pirate. Which could explain how he was able to meet up with the Gorosei so casually....
In any case, the Holy Knights (God's Knights) seem interesting. They might have a person who is strong as an Yonko member or an Admiral, but overall this makes me more excited for the Void Century tbh.
Makes me wonder if we'll eventually have the gaps filled in where the red head pirates went from the beginning to present connecting all those juicy little nuggets of information into a full blown feast!
It would make so much sense if Shanks was part of the holy knights and it would make sense as to why Shanks can just walk in and talk to the 5 elders

Karasu being a soot logia was a nice revelation. I wonder if his fruit is the logia that is above Crocodile's sand logia in the hierarchy of powers like magma being stronger than fire, ice stronger than snow, etc... My initial reaction was to think of the soot fruit being more along the lines of Smoker's power, but I think that the smoke power is probably going to be treated more like the inferior version of Caesar's gas fruit. And the soot particles in this chapter did look a bit sand-ish when Karasu reformed his body. But I could have this completely wrong or backwards. Regardless, very cool devil fruit and the way Karasu uses the power is incredibly unique!
Is soot something like trimmed carbon? I'm not familiar with the word, but the other DF have a superiority relation because they include the later ability while having a higher ceiling + extra abilities. For example, magma not only burns hotter than fire and can also have a tangible form to cause even more damage, it has uses even solidified, and perfectly counters Ice (while fire is tied).
Ice can get to lower temperatures than snow while completely freezing opponents instead of making them sleepy.
Gas includes smoke but also dominates any other gaslike substance. Don't forget awakened Ope Ope completely coping Rosinante's fruit abilities as well.

Fun zoology fact, corvids are very capable of human speech in fact they have very good memory for sounds and voice recognition as well of being capable of recognizing people that have helped them in the past making them friendly to humans. This also apply the other way so, yes crows can very much hate someone in specific and they will tell other crows about it, never get in a crows bad side.
I was shocked by the ending because it might mean the Five Elders or even IM are the most likely candidates to assassinate Cobra! I always thought it would be an assassin, some character we never met, but the idea it was on of them was surprising to me

One of my favorite things about one piece is how deep we the community take theories and connections. And I'm almost positive half of them are just coincidence on odas part or he only made the 2 things connect so it would make sense like he didn't plan on said connection being as mind blowing as we end up making it. Like with the silhouettes we're all freaking out and oda just wants to draw probably a couple serious looking guys and a couple funny looking guys. Classic one piece energy

Anyway, while we're at the subject of devil fruits, I think what many people dont get about Logia and why there is a debate about, for example, Katakuri's is that Logia powers are "nature-like". So they either bestow elemental powers as we know it or a concept that occurs in nature like the Forest or the Swamp fruit. Mochi is something humanity thought of, that is why it's not a logia fruit. Soot can occur naturally since all you need is a fire for that just like smoke. And as far as I know the "nature-like" attribute of Logias has been true with every canon Logia so far.
Crows in real live can mimic human speech by pushing air through their beak like an instrument. It’s the same why most birds make noise so that’s likely how the soot crows speak too. That and with kin’Amons fart talking ability being a thing I think it works lol

I agree about CP0. I get the feeling they're more or less like agents or spies, that have power to be sure, but more emphasis on infiltration and stealth. I expect the Holy Knights to be powerhouses. With more emphasis on fight-battling, more like the Admirals

The reverie to me is similar to pre timeskips build up of ace vs blackbeard a secondary story in the background of the main story that eventually comes back to effect the main story

@@PLTakeMe I can't speak for Oda, but why didn't Shanks go for the One Piece all this time? Is it possible he made a deal with the World Government to not go after it, and it never said he wasn't playing the government either for full access to their information. Including notifications when they found the Nika fruit and Luffy did just eat it by mistake, remember the fruits have a will of their own as its been said many times.
Hopefully we will find out all of this in time one way or another.

Next chapter… I’m so ready to see IMU. Ever since IMU has been introduced I’ve literally been like that’s the finally villain. There is something haunting about him/her and I can’t wait to get some major truth bombs next chapter in relation to poneglyphs/void century. (That’s clearly what Cobra is asking about as he stated on their ship headed to the Reverie before Whole Cake). Ever since the conversation with Nico Robin at the end of Alabasta, it seems it’s been really bugging Cobra. And considering that the Nefertiti Family is the only one of the 20 founding families of the the World Government that didn’t stay in Marie Jois they clearly aren’t fond of them to begin with.
I can already predict that the Holy Knights are all Shanks' family and have the rest of the supreme grade swords, the reason Shanks' was abandoned was because his genes somehow contradicted our beliefs and he was fed a devil fruit but it completely cancelled out and didnt work

If it does turn out that there is a Shankstwo then we no longer have a reason to believe the person who wanted to talk to the Gorosei about "a certain pirate" was Shanks. Which would mean we no longer could be sure of who said it or who it was said about.

When I first saw the holy knights, my first thought was ‘Shanks!’ ‘Noo!’ But quickly got over that. And then I got worried about Oda introducing that many new characters in the middle of this already overflowing arc.
