Grungy stenciling with a Gel Plate

- Can you stencil using paint without a brush or a cosmetic sponge? Yes! Then what was used to apply the paint? A gel plate! Not only did it make for speedy stenciling, it also gave it a grungy flair. Along with the stenciling and art journaling tutorial you'll see the exact moment that the cranky critical voice in my head started acting up. It wanted to know why I was doing this and that voice didn't like my answer at all. Full supply list and photos on the blog at acolorfuljourn...

You can find my articles in magazines such as Somerset Studio and Cloth Paper Scissors, spot me teaching in person and online workshops, designing stencils for StencilGirl Products, and sharing the message of O.O.P.S.
What does O.O.P.S. stand for? It stands for Outstanding Opportunities Presenting Suddenly.
Those “failures” and “mistakes” that I had so harshly criticized myself about actually became true gifts as soon as I started saying O.O.P.S. Try saying Oops in an angry tone. It makes it even more silly! I just can’t take myself seriously when I say Oops which is just what I needed to play. I began to play, to have fun, and to embrace all of my “mistakes”.

May I just say: "I love you!" Your videos are so helpful at making me feel human again. I'm watching/listening as I do some patchwork at my sewing machine and processing some words exchanged with a neighbor. Ah, so refreshing to listen to your voice and see the colors you are spreading. I find that my many interests inform each other. The ideas you share bless my life with joy.
Very fun page. I have to say I love how you always comment that we don't need any justification as to why we are arting the way we do, or using certain colors, or using certain materials. I think I need to say to my inner critic. IT'S JUST FUN! Thats Why! Thanks again for all you do & your inspiration! I also love your bubbly happy personality. TFS!
totally enjoyed watching you play....you brighten my day with your play and your conversation with yourself and subbies. LOL tfs
Why? Because I can. Because I want to. Because I like it. Because it's pretty. Because it's mine. So many reasons to do things your way. Love love love this drippy page.
Thanks Susan!
I love how you share the conversations in your head. I discovered the most amazing thing the other day while playing with my gelli plate at the same time that I was talking on the phone with my daughter. Lo and behold the left side of my brain was so preoccupied with the conversation that my right brain had a total blast. It was completely free to play with no judgement or criticism or second guessing. It was awesome and the designs I created were fantastic. Thank you for helping me understand what was taking place!
Fun pages! Really enjoyed watching you create this and enjoying yourself!
Love to watch you play!!!❤️
