We just did a 10 night Caribbean cruise on the Beyond last month. Around the martini bar on deck three on more than one occasion there was a strong sewage smell also.
I did a 5 day last month. There was a smell in craft social. Did you like the Beyond? I gave my 5 day a grade of D- on the FB group. People attacked me for it.
The average cruise ship gets refurbished every 3-5 years. It's not crazy that it is showing age when thousands of people are constantly wearing down the furniture and finishes.
Great review ! I was on the cruise straight after yours and met a few people who did back to back . They all raved about how excited they were to meet you ! lol . Loved this cruise ship and it has to be the best cruise I’ve been on here in Australia! I was also in a Sky suite , so had the benefit of the retreat facilities. We didn’t have the smell though ? So not sure what was causing it for your cruise ? But was definitely gone by the time we boarded 🤷🏽♀️
We did Edge at Christmas and we stayed in a Sky Suite and loved it. The retreat and Luminee were awesome... Wanted to dine in BLU but Luminee menu always trumped Blu
Currently on our Hawaii to Vancouver sailing. We have not had any smell issues and I am very sensitive to that. Tonight is filet mignon night in Luminae, and I am hoping it's as devine as yours was! Thanks😊
That grayish water in the shower and then to find out Guest Services knew about a main supply water issue and no announcement is NOT ACCEPTABLE and there could be problems for Celebrity because of this.
Was on Beyond in April and smelled the sewage smell on Deck 3 in the cabin corridors. Was peeviusly on Apex and Edge and the smell was present at times aroind the ship, and on one of our rooms. Some have speculated the drain in the bathroom needs to be kept wet to keep gasses out. Luminae burger is often par cooked and thet results in a steamed soggy patty. It is a good product when cooked to order, but the cooks seem to undercook them and get afraid the outside will char. The results then can be an undercooked center, which we experienced a few times on various sailings. The Retreat Deck menu is primarily the burger, or dried out salad or mushy shrimp. So, the burger is the only item that needs to be cooked most port days for lunch.
OK, Zach...so if you rated the ship highly overall, then why is the video title so misleading? It gives the distinct impression that the ship is crap! I have sailed on Edge, Apex and Ascent, and I have very good personal experiences from those ships. Other than the price gouging for solo cruisers, I would not hesitate to sail on any Celebrity ship again.
Great review! We are going on a similar cruise January 16 - 27. The main difference is we do not get to stop at Brisbane. We were on the fence about booking this cruise and your review put us across the finish line.
Good Afternoon Zachary Thank you for another wonderful video. I love the edge class series of ships. That water though ewweee. Lol. Glad they fixed it quickly. Thanks again for all your wonderful reviews. I really enjoyed watching them.
The Edge is beautiful, a wonderful experience on this modern ship. Certainly nowhere near showing her age. The Edge feels brand new. Food exceptional 🎉
I recently went on celebrity edge to new Zealand. Everything superb about ship apart from one thing which will put me off going on celebrity again which was the constant hassle of staff to grt speciality dining in the buffet and in the main dining room sometimes four times a day it ruined my experience. If I want speciality dining i will get it and don't need constant upselling.
Thanks for your video! I’m hoping to do the transpacific on Edge next year with the possibility of doing a back to back, adding the barrier reef cruise. This video was very helpful with my decisions.
I'm one of those guys that really enjoys the Luminae burger. A lot, but point well made. The best is at the lunch at Le Grand Bistro. I also enjoyed the buffet. Some don't think of it, but most have a beverage package. And with that, you can order fresh orange juice. So much better. My favorite meal on the ship is Eden. I'm glad there is no show, as I enjoyed the music being played. More relaxing. While I preferred Apex, I still enjoyed Edge. Same Retreat experience as yourself. We had no water or smell issues and my total score was 4.6. (yes. I use the same system) Two weeks until 13 nights in Scandinavia on Silhouette. A new class of ship for me. Thank you again. I've been appreciating your videos for quite some time now.
I was on this ship on 2019 with my daughter and we experienced the sewage smell on the top deck in the outside restaurant, could not finish our meal, was not good!
I’m sailing on the Edge from Honolulu to Sydney via French Polynesia and New Zealand in October this year. Hopefully they will have sorted out the smell by then!
Interesting you mentioned the port tendering situation. Cruising options from Australia are just South Pacific, NZ, and domestic. 3 or 4 of the South Pacific ports never reopened after the shutdown, NZ was already fairly limited, and Australian ports just can't handle the larger ships. We are already seeing the cruise lines send fewer ships here, because of this situation. Things will improve when RC opens their private island in Vanuatu, but that's years away yet.
Hi Zach - I am very pleased with your review and all your reviews ! As to the odor, that would really bug me. We're on a cruise to enjoy sea breezes and/ clear air -- not to get unexpected whiff of garbage-sewer smells,,,, hell we can go to our hometown local dumps for that LOL ! May I ask if Celebrity CS was approached about this intermittent but annoying and what they said ? To you shower water issue: While I don't agree with their policy to not notify their passengers of an all-ship water problem, at least they followed up with you to ensure your water was clear-running and also provided you with something for your troubles. Keep those great, fair, and fun reviews coming Zach - cheers to you !
Perhaps there was an issue with toilet blockage.... I have smelled this on some ships..usually in one area and goes away once the the problem is fixed.... reason you should never put anything in the toilet other than the toilet paper they provide. I am not sure if the shower water is the same as the water used for drinking... I think they may be two different systems... but not sure.
Wow Zach. Pricing almost $4k and booked way back 2021...? I booked same two months ago (inside stateroom) and only $1,600 (taxes, port fees and pre-paid gratuities included). Will be onboard her Oct 15 (after 18 day Solstice from Honolulu). Concierge Veranda on Solstice. Cost: Port fees + taxes + gratuities only. Compliments of Blue Chip Club. Onboard credits: $300 Celebrity CC $100 CC points $275 future booking Credit paid for five shore excursions + $179 balance remains. Fun stuff! Celebrity. Agree. Celebrity is great. Massive everyday crew effort to keep their standards high. Well done Celebrity. Good sensible reviews Zach. Appreciated! But you missed the namesake reef discovery!? Ohh my. Ahh well.
We are anxious because we have airline tickets to Seattle in 10 days where we plan to to catch Edge, but WestJet has issued 72-hour lockout notice. The sewage smell is also a concern. I'm an HSP, something misunderstood by most. One 'feature' is that my senses are more highly tuned, so I hear and see and smell things that others generally don't. For example, I _used_ to hear the vacuum tubes in TVs, I can smell when someone is chopping cucumbers in the kitchen from half a house away, and I hate being in the same room as an open package of Blue Cheese. If I'm smelling raw sewage, it's probably going to be a problem.
@@katcalico9142 Thank you for the warmth. Being an HSP is a feature. The sights and smells of the forest behind the house, the sigh of a sleeping cat, a tremble in a poet's voice, and fresh strawberry pie in the oven, are la joie de la vie. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
No click bait here. I’ve never made up anything for my videos. I just report things as I experience them and it was certainly an issue when I sailed, substantiated by multiple other people I sailed with who reported the same thing. I’m glad you didn’t experience the foul odor when you sailed but it was an issue in February.
I’m leaving on an edge cruise soon. As others have mentioned I’ll be on the lookout for sewage issues. Such a shame because we usually stick with celebrity and enjoy them.
I sailed on the Edge on 5 April. I found the food in the dining room disappointing (although I am a vegetarian) however the buffet food was a better alternative . It is a beautiful ship and the entertainment was great. Unfortunately our infinite verandah stateroom had a broken toilet for two nights out of nine. I was told it was due to the sewer line being blocked. It was extremely inconvenient! A number of floors had the same issue, but it wasn’t widespread. I was given a bottle of wine as compensation and although I don’t drink alcohol it was an unexpected gesture to compensate for the inconvenience. It seems like the ship has a lot of maintenance issues.
We're on our 4th back to back, must have been after you departed. Love the ship, but have noticed the smell every now and then on the rooftop garden; We would just move to another spot. None of my upgrade requests were accepted ...
Celebrity is not what it once was. We have one cruise left at the end of the year and sadly will be our last after 20 plus years. The cruise industry has changed so much, for the worse, that we can no longer justify cruising and have shifted back to land based travel.
Probably was the best with the Meridian and then Horizon class in terms of food, presentation, service, and just no-nonsense grown up cruising. I thought the Century class were their best ships but even then some thought the food and service was slipping. At least the ships were well cared for. After the Millennium class they started to lower their standards. I dislike the Edge ships. Taking away observation lounges and libraries and putting acrobats in 3 venues is not premium. They've turned NCL like with this Retreat area ship in a ship implementation, all the specialty restaurants and up charges, and the noisy foyers are just to get more people on, rather than the more selective people that fit their profile, on their ships.
Hi Zack I do enjoy your videos, and I have never been on a Edge class chip but also, I have no wish to do so. The thing may well be beautiful inside, but outside it is again like many later ships a monstrosity the lines of the ship if it actually has any lines, are completely ruined by that thing hanging off the side of the ship.
I have been on a few ships with the sewage smell going all the way back to the Sovereign of the Seas. I also was on the Allure with my parents and in laws at the aqua theatre show and during the entire show sewage smell was wafting all around us. This is not uncommon..but definitely disgusting. Never had any water issues in all of the ships I have sailed on. I wish Celebrity would offer drink vouchers for Diamond/Elite status. On the Eclipse we really received no benefit. This is my bucket list cruise as well. Thanks for the excellent overview
For me a ship is not old until it is well over 20 years old. Any hospitality product will show some wear after a few years in service, but it should be as clean as possible.
Of note that odor does happen.. on EVERY ship (some a lot more noticeable than others, the bigger the ship the higher the chance of stronger smell).. it’s when the wind direction against the ship blows the air back from the air vents from the disposal processing equipment on the ship.. i.e. the Water, Sewer, Garbage processing facilities.. All Ships have them. They vent out, in most cases these vents are very low on the ship, and ship is moving when these machines are in use.. wind is simply carrying the odor away below you.. but if the wind catches the vents and blows back into the ship.. you smell it.. nothing new and not a new discovery! I thought you cruised a lot, surprised you did not know this?
@@ZachtheTravelingMan OK I'll give you a minute to think about it again!!! ok think again.. lol.. dude did you happen to check on the wind direction for your cruise.. it is possible the entire cruise those vents were being hit with wind gusts. Just to make my point a bit more clearer.. the smell is almost always in the same section of the ship and never when at port (did you notice that) (the disposal vents are located most likely where the odour is) and can carry down the halls, but not very far in most cases.. next time this happens, check to see is it a windy day, or there are wind gusts or short bursts of wind etc.. if you smell it on one side, go to the other side, bet no smell ... that's because the wind on that side is pulling the smell away.. Common knowledge for a true cruiser. Love your VLOG's by the way, just sometimes you should investigate things a bit deeper to understand the why's before you start raising a concern.. i.e. do your due diligence if it's a complaint.. make sure it's real and something you can point your finger too.. just saying it smells and not providing any other details is a disservice to you, your viewers and the cruise line your VLOGGING about.. won't stop watching or anything, but will call you out when I feel your leading folks down the wrong path ;-) what you experienced is NORMAL for large ship cruising.. What would really suck is if you have a cabin directly over or near one of these vents.. that's why you always pick your own cabin, and make sure you know where these vents are on the ships.. your travel agent should know.. I make it a point to know before I book.
Believe me, I understand how all of that works. This was daily while we were in port, not moving, in both windy and calm conditions. I don’t haphazardly make claims like this. The smell was inside the ship, down hallways, and on outside decks. Multiple people commented on it that were on the sailing. I’ve heard they’ve since got it taken care of, but it was certainly an unpleasant experience during most of my sailing. Appreciate you watching my videos btw! Cheers.

We were on the cruise. We experienced much of the same. We had no hot water in our shower the day they had issues. We smelt the sewage smell often more so on top deck, quite strong near retreat by the public whirlpool. Edge left us with a glad we sailed but would we again feeling. Sadly our experience with staff left us feeling that the standards have slipped. Overall we are glad we sailed on Edge but she’s not the ship for us, solstice for us.
"It's JUST the water"? That alone is enough for me NEVER to do Celebrity. Imagine Flint Michigan telling the residents that! They didn't disclose what was in the water that turned it another color or left residue that they expected guest to ingest in all that they ate and drank! The rest of the ship wouldn't matter!
Gross water and smells. I have seen one Celeb ship where the casino is smoking and the doors are always wide open so the smell wafts throught the entire center atrium ruining everyone's appetite FFS!
The ship is going on 5 or 6 years old so it's getting up there. Huh? This is a very young ship. Unless ships are completely disposable this ship is young. If it shows some wear, that's what happens when you use a product. That said, if Celebrity isn't maintaining it that's a minus on Celebrity. The water problem and no announcements or notes or some communication about it is a huge problem. when you say you are a suite passenger, that immediately puts me off to say, well, it's easy for you to enjoy the ship because you aren't restricted from areas that those that chose not to spend their money on a suite are. So, you get the views and deck areas that others don't get. It's much easier to like an Edge class ship when you're in the "privileged" class. That retreat area and placement is one of the reasons why I don't like the Edge class ships. Most people don't seem as offended by the class system in this ship but I sailed Celebrity and others before the class system and I think it's not a good direction for the industry. Cruising is personal and the Edge certainly has some features for those that want the trendy aspects of a modern ship. For me, what feelings spaces evoke are a lot more important than pretty surroundings so while the ship may have attractive areas, only a few really do anything for me. I think the odor and water problem unfortunately was a problem that can happen on a cruise ship but the ship is probably fine on most sailings.
"Celebrity Edge is the third oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet" No, it isn't. I think your confusing third oldest with third newest,, or third most recent ship. And even then it wouldn't be the third newest or most recent. Even when this video was released, it wasn't the third newest or most recent (or third oldest according to you) ASCENT - 2023 BEYOND - 2022 APEX - 2020 EDGE- 2018 If Edge is the third oldest (fourth actually), then by your logic, that would make Ascent the oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, and Millennium would be the newest ship. The third oldest ship (of ships still sailing under the Celebrity brand) would be Infinity, Summit, or Xpedition. All of these came out in 2001. Millennium is the oldest ship in the currently in the fleet, and it came out in 2000. You wouldn't say that Summit is the third newest Celebrity ship, because that would be untrue. Just like saying "Celebrity Edge is the third oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet". It's about attention to detail. People depend on your to provide them with accurate information.
Thanks, Kevin. That was obviously an oversight on my part, likely the result of late night metadata input, and has now been corrected. I feel it would have been easier to have just brought that to my attention instead of all of THIS, but ok. Also, due to the pandemic, Apex debuted in 2021. :)
Definitely sounds like a deal, 11 days in an Edge class suite for that price is great. Hopefully they resolve whatever behind the scenes issue before they ruin multi cruises.
I was on this cruise as were a few other folks I knew and we never experienced any water concerns. There was no odour on the ship either , the ship still looks pristine and the food in Luminae was stellar every night.
I was on this cruise too and I did smell it, but only on certain parts of the ship. Towards the back.
You can always request the Main Dining room menu when in Luminae. We routinely look at the Main Dining room menu and mix & match at times.
My main complaint was the wine offering for a paying as much as we did for the Retreat was terrible. We did not have a glass of wine that csme from a bottle thst retailed for more than 25 dollars.. I was totally expecting good quality wine and it was a big downer

We are going to on a 22 day to the Great Barrier Reef and NZ on the edge on January, back to back.
A 5 yo ship is showing its age? If that's accurate, that's from very poor maintenance by them

All I know is this was far worse than anything I’ve ever experienced on any other ship and it lasted the whole cruise. So there ya go.
I am leaving on my first cruise on Sunday MSC Sinfonia. I was stationed in Australia in 1977-1979 beautiful country.
"Celebrity Edge is the third oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet"
No, it isn't. I think your confusing third oldest with third newest,, or third most recent ship. And even then it wouldn't be the third newest or most recent. Even when this video was released, it wasn't the third newest or most recent (or third oldest according to you)
ASCENT - 2023
BEYOND - 2022
APEX - 2020
EDGE- 2018
If Edge is the third oldest (fourth actually), then by your logic, that would make Ascent the oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, and Millennium would be the newest ship.
Considering this ship was launched in 2019 and was mothballed during the Covid years, it shouldn’t be “showing” any age at all. Disappointing.
Definitely sounds like a deal, 11 days in an Edge class suite for that price is great. Hopefully they resolve whatever behind the scenes issue before they ruin multi cruises.
You went to Australia and didn't do the great barrier reef....seriously...
Get out and live a bit man!!!
We were on this same cruise and didn’t see you but we had the best experience ever. Why do you always have to winge like a diva celebrity?
