    Yes, to Rice pudding. Delicious! My mum was half Irish and so proud of it. Rice pudding was a favourite with all of us, and now 70 years later with me it still is . I loved the thought of blackberry topping. Thank you for wonderful memories.

    My northern Irish mammy used to make us rice puddings when we were kids (she moved to NZ with my dad just before I arrived into the world). Dad's favourite saying was "You couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding". Thanks for the memories

    Just watched this with my good lady. It was great to get to see a bit of Clon (her ancestral home town). We’d love to see more ‘out and about’ footage from you. You're in such a lovely part of the world (weather notwithstanding), so it'd be a shame not to share more of it with those of us who are cruelly deprived of it.
    The rice pudding divided the room, though. I'm a HUGE fan of a proper rice pudding, and I would have made short work of the whole thing. Mrs H, however, not so much. The very mention of the skin-the best bit-had her making a noise like a faulty bilge pump. 😬
    She doesn't know what she's missing!
    All the best to you all!

    Claire you are a trooper. Such a plethora of angles to plaster. I don’t envy you at all. Well done girl. And Rob, those unusual tiles look great in the showers.
    I remember rice pudding as a child. It wasn’t my favourite dessert but I would have accepted anything sweet as we only had deserts once or maybe twice in the week. My mum was a good traditional cook, so we had lots of tarts, puddings (Eve’s pudding, queen of pudding, lemon meringue pie (a definite favourite). Semolina with jam, sago (yjuck frogspawn). She also made tea cakes ( with fruit soaked in tea) buns and sponges. And an orgy of baking ahead of Christmas with Christmas cakes (at least 6-8 to cover birthdays through the year and some for the ICA cake sale. And Christmas pudding which I love with loads of brandy butter.
    How about making a lemon meringue?

    Claire, you are amazing with your plastering skills. I have tried it and it is not as easy as one would think. I’m holding my opinion of the black tile with the white. I’m sure when grouted out it may look better. Keep up the great work! My mouth is watering for that bread! I love the lights and I would find a length that would work and not depend on changing the length. Chances are after a few weeks you would get use to the height and never change them.

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  2 місяці тому

      So true about the light! Yes plastering is incredibly unforgiving and I struggle alot with it, however this was the challenge, to take on as much as we could ourselves and learn new skills 😊

    Try doing your bread in your cast iron casserole. Line with non stick baking parchment. Dust a bit of polenta in the bottom. Heat the pot up to heart of the sun. Carefully drop the proved dough in (good oven gloves necessary. Slash the top. 20 minutes lid on and 20 lid off. Amazing rise and chewy crust 😊 Don’t forget to set your timer😮

    Clair put your mixed plaster in a sealed container it lasts a long time What is the best way to store ready-mix compound for another use?
    Clean sides and lid of container so no dried compound falls into the mixture. Level joint compound surface with a knife and cover container tightly. If storing, cover leveled surface of joint compound with approximately 1/2" of clean water and cover container tightly. Pour off water before reusing joint compound. Do not store in direct sunlight and protect from extreme heat and cold. The shelf life of an unopened container is up to nine months under proper storage conditions. Carry on your doing a great job!

    Going for a big push towards the finish line folks, this isn't even a marathon - it's an ultra, keep your chin up!!
    You guys are rockstars in the new kitchen, absolutely love rice pudding. Making me very hungry watching you enjoy that. Funny was reading about Lemon Balm the other day, and got distracted by a Monty Don video talking about how fragrant Lemon Verbena is. This has just pushed me over the buy it edge. Not frost hardy though right? You have it as a house plant?

      Yes Lemon Verbena, does better inside. I'm trying to tame mine into a small bush shape however it loves climbing for the light. Can't remember if it's from Delish or Future Forests, great for tea also.

My aunt was a great cook but one time camping she made rice pudding that was so awful that even the dog wouldn’t eat it! Turns out she used water from the trailer that had been in there too long. Rob & Clare enjoying watching how you have progressed from last week......I have a quick question for Rob.....Rob should you not be using spacers between each tile to allow you to grout between the tiles to prevent water ingress??.....You more than likely have the situation in hand but I'm just concerned about the tiles which are sitting on top of each other and trying to apply the grout between them!!!
