I was a subscriber from like issue 10 to around 80 or 90 when I was little kid getting into Nintendo and video games but I still read the magazine in bookstores every now and then after we stopped subbing so I kind of remembered some of this issue. That 100 games list was crazy nostalgic to me, a ton of recency bias, way too many Nintendo 64 games over NES, SNES and Game Boy but some nice to see games too like I remember liking the Faceball games back then and Street Fighter II Turbo was the game that made me beg my parents to get me a Super Nintendo. That was such a good port of the arcade game. It was fun to debate with friends what games should have been higher and what was missing, NP was like that all the time though with their monthly power rankings. Also, definitely surprised to see jokes at the Virtual Boy and live action Super Mario movie expense too. Incredibly interesting time capsule!
Back in the day my mom wanted me to be happy and play video games and my dad wanted me to play sports. They compromised and bought me an N64 but only sports games. I had an F1 game, MLB ft. Ken Griffey Jr., a basketball game, and some others I don’t remember
I think the only way to appreciate Goldeneye being that far up there is to understand just how big of a deal the game was in 97. You had to have been there. Friends, siblings, fathers, cousins, and uncles all wanted to play it and it was some of the most memorable moments of my childhood being in a crowded room after a holiday dinner and just all the noise going on with your loved ones. This was the case for many and it lasted for years, being the most rented out game at Blockbuster for 2 years straight. It was a BIG deal. Now has it aged? Absolutely. But was it innovative for not just console FPS's but the genre as a whole? Without a doubt.
1:11 You know what, we need these for modern consoles! Plus, the one for the Xbox Series S would be pretty funny, considering the fact it's not much bigger than a controller.

Seeing Nintendo Power's top 100 damaged me emotionally :P... Specifically, seeing the Donkey Kong Country 2 placement below 3 broke me 😂
People need to look at Nintendo Power understanding it wasn’t a gaming “journalism publication”like EGM was, it was the marketing arm of Nintendo North America. Basically Nintendo propaganda lol
2:01 I got that "trilogy CD set" back in the day!! Listened to it while doing homework, it was pretty condicive lol.
I still have the CD sleeve and at least 2 of the discs.
Also OoT soundtrack!
For the Mario Kart one, they called the music tracks "race tracks." Lol. And I'll have you know MK64 is still the best one if you ask me and anyone else I know over the age of 7 who plays a Mario Kart.
I like DKC3 but even I think it being ranked over 2 is a crime. 😂
More than likely that happened because it was new at the time. Same thing with Crash Bandicoot 3. It was amazing when it came out, but it gets docked now for the emphasis on vehicles and de-emphasis on platforming.
FYI the golden gameboy pocket is only about $15 more now than it was originally
23:08 Has anyone actually played road runners death Valley Rally? I've had it for 30 years, never beaten level 4. 900k is INSANE. You go, Ryan!
Back in the day my mom wanted me to be happy and play video games and my dad wanted me to play sports. They compromised and bought me an N64 but only sports games. I had an F1 game, MLB ft. Ken Griffey Jr., a basketball game, and some others I don’t remember
Why didn’t you just do both? Lol
that timeline is kind of funny. "nintendo was founded in 1889. they proceeded to do nothing for around 90 years and then the game & watch happened"
😄😄
This was a marketing list used to advertise games they published, the rankings don’t mean anything.
1:11
You know what, we need these for modern consoles!
Plus, the one for the Xbox Series S would be pretty funny, considering the fact it's not much bigger than a controller.
"Power Rankings" were based on sales, popularity, polls, votes, editor discretion, etc. all kinds of different ways.
100% editor discretion which was Nintendo’s marketing department
People forget Nintendo Power was basically a propaganda rag.
Contemporaries of the time like EGM were far more journalistic.
Nintendo Power is so real for throwing Virtual Boy under the bus
oh god i miss magazines
The first time I saw the Super Mario Bros. Wonder character art style, I immediately thought of that first Nintendo Power cover.
Don't mock this... this was my youth, Scott.
13:00 It doesn't surprise me that Scott wouldn't talk about NFL Quarterback Club 98 because a certain Madden NFL 09 cover athlete was on the cover of this game.
SCOTT VIDEOS FIVE DAYS IN A ROW WOOOO YEAH BABEEE.
"thats what they costed back then."
Yet he knows the word "recency" lol
Damn. I'm 39 and I feel absolutely ANCIENT now . . . I'll just go yell at kids to get off my lawn now.
24:27 RIP BOZO 😂😂
Get the power

Fighting your way through enemy fire
Haha how does the number of pages for the N64 previews go from being 46 pages as per the cover (2:52) to 45 pages on the table of contents (3:34) to 48 pages on the opening blurb (9:29).
I miss Nintendo Power. I loved my subscription as a kid.
@Official-ScottsStash shut up
Me, I'm the one asking to play MK64. I grew up with 7, idk why 64 is so fun to me.
Because he karts aren't all over the damn place the whole time, easy to control, and the weapons are simple but impactful. And don't block out your screen.
Welcome to the 100th!
9:57 When the future is actually now
This was a fun time capsule. And when I say fun, I mean meh
True story: I brought this issue to show and tell in elementary school
All of mine were opened by my local post office. I got the ripped open plastic and roughed up goodies but it only got worse until we moved.
I would like to see you do a timeline video of Nintendo.
