    Any idea what the concentration of the vinegar was? Or if a more acidic vinegar would yield better or different results. Great video, thanks

      Well, shout out to you for that question! 👍🏻 The concentration of my brand cleaning vineagar is 7%. I think that if you use a higher concentration, you should go lower on current otherwise you will burn your piece. Maybe in some cases it will speed up the proces but I would recommend to keep things in control by keeping the concentration low.

    You can also buy some nickel ammonium sulfate and skip buying the nickel metal and making the nickel acetate

    Very nice and informative video. What is the temperature of solution through process and is there some recommended tempreature? Thank you.

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  Рік тому

      Hi Mienski, I never measured the temperature but it all depends on the current you put into it. For making the solution you can use high current what makes the solution pretty warm but there is no good or bad here. For the plating process I do not pre-heat the solution or someting like that. I store the solution in my shed and used it at different temperatures depending on the season. (10 - 25 degrees celcius) The plating process heats up the solution as well, again due to the current you use. So, not to worry about temperature 😉

    Sorry to ask on this post but is that screwdriver holder a custom build?? Looks fantastic.
    Terrific video too. Thank you!!

      Thanks Dave! Good thing that you ask right away when you are interested! 👍🏻 The screwdriver holder was not a custom build, it came with the screwdrivers. But if you think people would be interested in such a build, I can make one! I’m still exploring how this UA-cam stuff works…what video will work and what does not. So please ask questions and let me know what you guy’s would like to see…

    Very well explained but where did you get that pure nickel from? Is it very expensive?

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  Рік тому +1

      Thank you Vitor! I bought it from Amazon. It’s not cheap but keep in mind that it’s absolutely worth the result. I wish you the best of luck with your project! 💪

    Hey is it possible to us diamond powder to this solution to bond also to the metal for a sharpening tool

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  Рік тому +1

      Hi queryads1000, I don’t think that will work because the nickel ‘sticks’ to the material using electroplating. The diamond dust is not attrackted to metal in this proces. I would not waist any precious diamond powder (I think it’s expensive) on this one! 😉 I read something about chemical vapor deposition, an electroplating process that will do the trick you need…. Maybe you can dive into that proces?

    Can the solution be diluted (with distilled H20) lil bit to plate larger parts so they can be dipped into the solution( a bike tank for my project )

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  7 місяців тому

      I understand your quest, yes you can dilute but not with distilled water! Please use vinegar to dilute. But better leave the nickel in longer during the brewing process to, to get a proper solution. I would love to see the tank project!

    So you ran 31 volts here but under 5 amps is that correct? How long did it take to finish the solution?

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  Рік тому

      That is about right Abel. With these numbers it took me approximately 1 hour to get this result. It’s not exact science, you can plate with a lighter solution to, it only takes a little longer. Good luck with your project!

    Hi, any idea on how to estimate the amount of materials tequired for a particular surface area?

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  11 місяців тому

      A real good question! Thanks for that. Actually I have no clue 😉 But keep in mind that the layer you add to your project is a thin layer. Microns thick. If you use a nickel rod or strips of several millimeters thick, you can go wild for a while… My guess: with the amount of nickel I used, you can easily do a motorcycle fender and some random parts as well. Hope I could help…

    Stirring device is now the scientific name for the non living species commonly known as spoon

      Absolutely! Who would live a non living life just called spoon!? I thought, let’s stir it up a little… 😉😂

      Yes, correct. And a large stirring device is scientifically called a large spoon and some people now refer to small stirring devices as tea spoons.

    • @kaspersworkshopmanners
      @kaspersworkshopmanners  11 місяців тому

      Hi Ted, good question! If you cannot sand to a smooth surface, because it’s to pitted for example, I think of sandblasting. If you cannot do it yourself, and cannot find someone to do it for you, maybe I can help. The only thing is, you have to send it to the Netherlands…
