I'm posting this video early so I can take the day off tomorrow to play Sunbreak lol Have you watched my videos on the music of base MH Rise btw? ua-cam.com/video/Qf5SaVhbzCQ/v-deo.html
Dude you are amazing! For all that is beautiful in life, please PLEASE make a video analizing Citadel battle theme, i think is one of the most epic themes on MH sunbreak!
Reason why there are so many attacking notes is because Astalos is a monster WILL NOT stop attacking and chasing its target, even when they are leaving its territory, that's how aggressive Astalos is.
After playing some Sunbreak I HAVE to request you talk about Espinas' new theme. It is panic inducing, fast paced, and well fitting for the end of his fight. Would love to hear your thoughts on it
@@retro6332 It isn't random, it's the Great Forest, specifically Great Forest HR100, and it's at least decently fitting for Espinas since it debuted in that map in Season 2.0
This theme is my favourite because this music is so incredibly panic inducing to me. Every time is listen to it I imagine a terrified hunter running and crawling for his life through a narrow rock crevice just out of reach of the psychopathic biological murder machine that is Astalos. This monster is so insane. If you know the lore of Astalos you know that these monsters are so aggressive that they have to leave their nest before their offspring hatch because they can't even resist cannibalising their own infant children. And that they hunt not only for survival but just for sport. So honestly the more raw and hard punching the attack notes are, the better the monster is portrayed I think. Those constant, fast and hard percussive noises on the forefront of the generations version portray his instinctual need for a chase, a battle, the FIGHT! It almost drowns out the guitar. That is something missing from the sunbreak version, those noises are still there but way in the background. The sunbreak versions still hits, but just way softer due to the orchestral nature of the composition, and i think that suits Astalos' theme less. Although it is still very good at portraying his element with them going crazy with the electric guitar solos. Overall great video! I was waiting for this one and you certainly delivered 👌
The Sunbreak version does a good job at continuing the theme that some of the Rise remixes had where, while they were more subdued than the original tracks, they did a better job of representing specific aspects of the monster you're fighting. Teostra's theme does a good job of sound like you're some place extremely hot, Kushala's sounds incredibly cold, and Chameleos has a more playful trickster sound to it. With the Sunbreak version of Astalos' theme, I think it definitely starts out as a bit inferior to the original, but it slowly builds until we hit that descending set of notes, ultimately landing at the part you hear around 9:08. This part of the song sounds a lot more "full" and energetic, which does a great job of representing the fact that Astalos charges up throughout the fight. It's not quite as obvious or cinematic as Zinogre, but it still happens, and I really like the "fully charged" part of the song. It really feels like everything comes together.
The main reason Sunbreak's version feels different, to me at least, is probably because the brass section is a lot fuller. It makes it feel more "orchestral", like you said.
I really love the rise version of the astalos theme and how they replace the choir of most of rise theme by a solo guitar, that sound like if it was the voice of the astalos that...😫...so good. My favourite theme after rise version of proof a hero 😆 (I was waiting for this video so much)
9:17 I never realized it until now, but this same chord sounds like the very same one that's used in Blue's Champion theme from Pokemon I believe. I never caught it until I heard it on its own
Its a bit sad that they remove the electric guitar from the main melody for the orchestral feel, but i really love that they let the solo electric guitar just raging in the background as a substitute. Now that i think about it i laugh a bit when the first time i hear that solo guitar, because its so funny, as if they try to compensate for the lack of electric guitar, which is fair enough for astalos.
Wow, never refreshed my subscriptions page with such close timing. Excited to watch this video, just securing my position as first! Edit: Now that I’ve seen some of the video, I can say I was personally a little bummed that a lot of the more savage and unique elements of songs were toned down in favor of a more standardized sound with chorus and full orchestras.
I love Rise and a lot of its older monster theme music re-arrangements. But man, sometimes those re-arrangements can be a mixed bag. On the one hand they sound super awesome! But then on the other they just sound a bit too soft compared to their previous predecessors. World embellishes too much on the duration of its battle themes, but kept the punchiness consistently to the max. Rise on the other hand extends pretty much all of its battle themes while still keeping it on a short loop like older MH games. But goddang do they sound like an incomplete composition sometimes. Anyways, to sum it up as a whole, Rise still does a great job on the music. And they definitely grow on you the more times you play the game itself.
i think its a casualty of the general sound rise tries to have, the percussion isnt very heavy and the strings and winds tend to be favored, rise music is generally more "calm" than previous games which works for some but not others. World did have this issue a little bit, but only because the heavy drums were set aside for the mount versions
Please compare Espinas's themes! The changed the Sunbreak one from his original Frontier version and not everyone knows about Frontier's music! The Flagship of Frontier must get coverage!
Wow I only just realised that you change the colour of the led strip in the background depending on the track you're listening to. What an awesome touch, I can't believe I hadn't noticed it before xD
I'm currently 1 year through my music tech GSCE and I love making this kind of music with a giant interest to create music for my own indie game some day. Thanks so much for helping me better understand what to do and leading me to the top of my class :D have a lovely day/night
Astalos is highly aggressive nearly insane. While it's always attacking it's never too far out of its reach from the hunter. The theme being so aggressive and fast. With parts in rise being calmer makes the effect to be the upcoming storm. Something that'll ramp up soon. I think a good theme or a cool one to react to is shagaru magala's. He's got three though.
A Davi Vasc video and it's not even Friday yet? Awesome! This theme is so intense, really does capture how he doesn't let you take a full breath! Gotta celebrate those precious few electric guitar themes in MH.
Another theme that you should absolutely give a listen to is the Shantien medley from Monster Hunter Frontier. Its a series of 4 themes that play during the fight at certain stages, slowly increasing in tension, until the final theme hits right at the climax of the fight
one of, if not my favourite addition to the rise version has to be the bit relatively early on, where the percussion stops for the most part before starting again. I always love it when music does that, really gives the next bit some extra oomph.
I can't adequately express how much I appreciate the language you use when describing this stuff. A lot of people who explain and react to video game music on youtube throw around big complicated terms all the time. And while that is fair enough, most of these people are professional musicians making videos mainly for other musicians after all, sometimes just describing a note or a chord as "fat" brings the point across much better than any theoretical wordsalad, especially to people like me who only have a very limited understanding of music theory.
Love it, great video Davi! You’re right, they are both awesome for different reasons. There really isn’t a better theme. Loved fighting Astalos in the demo, can’t wait to make it to em in the full game. Hope you’re enjoying Sunbreak. I know I am!
i honestly think they arranged better rise theme but it's not as powerful as the first one, that resembles astalos true nature, a killing beast who will attack anything in his territory
The solo guitar chord you spoke of in the early parts of the theme, I always thought the generations version sounded like opera singing, thus how I knew they mixed orchestral with rock. Althought when i listened to it here in your vid, it does sound a bit like a rock guitar as well. To be fair, I'm not sure which of us is right in terms of what was used there for the generations theme. But I know for a fact in Rise they embraced the theme into more of a rock aspect and I appreciate the improvement. The new segment is gonna take some getting used to altho it's pretty good.
It would be lovely to see a comparison of the Jungle theme now we have a new one. The old one was for me SO impressive and tense that created an incredible atmosphere to fight the monsters feeling the danger the hunter is every time they go on the hunt!
These are nice to watch. I like the in-depth comparisons between versions, as it helps me appreciate them more. I kinda want to see a branch into spinoffs, personally, and would love to see what you think of Monster Hunter Stories 2 music. Like the Battle Theme or the Main Title Theme.
Great video as always! I’m so glad Astalos is back! I really like the original one. It’s a banger, that won’t change, but I must say Sunbreak version is fantastic. I like the arrangement of Astalos theme from Hunting Music Festival, SB version is a little bit close to it. The guitar part stands out even more, makes the theme more powerful and electrifying. The addition of no chorus part keeps the sharpness and the tension from the beginning to the end. The only disappointment is that the rough and rebellious vibes for the original one were diminished a bit by the orchestral elements. Thank you for this video, Davi!
Always preferred this monster's Japanese name: Raizex. Sounds more powerful, rocking, and dangerous like the beast itself. That 1st bit with the notes wide apart, you could say is the start of the hunt, notices you there, and is now closing the gap on the attack. As others have posted, he's a very aggressive monster; downright murderous. It makes sense his theme has so many attack notes.
Astalos’ theme is the reason I tried Old World Monster Hunter. I succeeded in beating even G1 Bloodbath Diablos solo with Alchemy Hammer. I was so excited to see and fight him in Sunbreak. Plus I managed to get the little cutie as a plushie. Even if I have Elder Dragon plushies, my Astalos is the king of my Monster Hunter plushies. Helps that he’s physically larger than the others.
Astalos is my favorite monster and I do agree the GU theme is better. The punchiness is just so good. Also I feel like making the theme fuller and softer just doesn’t fit the insect-like vibe. My favorite thing about the Sunbreak version is the new part, especially with that nice base line
Got into your content recently and wanted to recommend AGL Lr golden frieza's OST. It's from a mobile game called DBZ Dokkan Battle and I love a lot of the music they create for the new units they come out with. The unit came out last week so it's nice and fresh to check out.
This is music that I would never listen to on my own (not a huge fan of Japanese "fantasy" style music), but one thing for which I am grateful is that watching these videos has certainly helped me to appreciate it - among other genres - much more.
I just leared about your channel, this is really nice! You explain about the songs of the games that I like. Monster hunter / Zelda. With more depth so I increased my understanding about game music. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!😃 All the best with your new professional projects. How do you like the theme song from the monster hunter movie? I would like if they put that song also in one of the hunts. Greetings from Aruba!🇦🇼🌴🌵
I have really enjoyed your hollow knight videos and one of my favourite osts is the mantis lords, it has some striking notes and I think you might enjoy it (:
One of the things I don’t like about rise’s soundtrack is that it’s way too soft for me, I like when a music is punchy. Like in the New Valstrax theme, where the theme is suppose to explod, it just don’t, and that’s why i prefer generation’s version of astalos theme too, it’s not impacting enough compared to the original. Cool video as always 👍
Ever thought about doing Crimson and White fatalis themes from Frontier ? I feel like Crimson especially is really different from the usual MH music, defo interesting (anyway keep up the great work 😄)
i like sunbreak's version and the additional melody to the theme is nice, but sunbreak is missing that percussion the generations version has that gives it that impact. i also like how the generations version has that riff that sounds like an opera singer belting out a high pitched note
id really like to see you talk about music from xenoblade chronicles, the main theme, engage the enemy, tragic decision, and so many others are stunning
i think this is the best time to compare all proof of a hero, so far sunbreak has my favorite proof of a hero the rising feeling at around the 1 minute mark was beautiful
Oh from Sunbreak there are some AMAZING themes to check out. Specifically Shagaru's theme remaster and the final boss theme. Espinas theme and Seregios' theme also definitely worth a listen.
On the topic of the wide gap and close tie segments of the theme - Astalos is a monster that hunts Rathalos and Rathian for fun. As such, my amateur interpretation of these two elements of the theme is that this monster is one that has the agility to fly across and intercept any path of escape, with the dreadful determination and precision to clip wings and bring its prey to their proverbial knees. It is a monster that tires you out and will. not. stop.
3:00 and the punching, dont forget the Punching. Astalos Classic was badass, but very short and lacks quieter Moments its high Energy to the End. Rise added a bit of nuance. But maybe the highpoints do not hit as hard anymore?
A reccomendation I have is the theme for the final boss of sunbreak. I won’t give any details for anyone that wants it avoid spoilers, but if you’ve already fought him or don’t care about spoilers you should definitely look into it
Hey so there's this particular soundtrack from this one game (MoH Frontline, I understand it is an old game but there were some songs from that game that was nice.) But I was thinking of either Arnhem or After the Drop would be nice ones to check out.
After since SunBreak Came out you should Definitely do a compare of Gore & Shagaru Magala's Songs, Heck throw Chaotic Gore's Theme in the Mix jsut for the Heck of it if you'd like
Great Video ! Could you possibly do espinas next? C: its a returning monster from a closed game called monster hunter frontier i would love to hear your analysis ^^
I enjoyed this video. By the way, could you do a reaction to “Bloody Claws” from Gravity Rush? It has a similar use of electric guitars, from what I remember.
I thought that the Generations solo guitar was a vocal, it's on this video I found out it isn't. I prefer the Generations version because of the electric guitar and the fewer instruments brings more out of the percussion, but Sunbreak's new section adds a lot by changing up the song enough to make the loop better, Generations' theme gets a bit much for extended periods of time. Granted, I haven't fought it in Sunbreak yet, just the demo, and I don't think I'll be as hassled grinding it in Sunbreak as I was for wing bits or hyper parts in Gen, but still, a bit more theme in a 10 minute hunt is welcome.
I haven't played Generations nor have I reached Astalos in Rise yet, but I much prefer the Generations version of the track. It sounds unique to the monster itself, and the impact as you've described it makes for a more intense listening experience and battle. I have a similar stand in regards Bazel's World vs. Rise theme, the World version just dominates and is far superior for me.
I'm posting this video early so I can take the day off tomorrow to play Sunbreak lol

Great video! Try doing Gore Magala next as well! Both themes are so cool!
I like the old version more, it's so aggressive and adrenalin pumping that the new sunbreak version can't really compete
i think this is the best time to compare all proof of a hero, so far sunbreak has my favorite proof of a hero the rising feeling at around the 1 minute mark was beautiful
Oh from Sunbreak there are some AMAZING themes to check out. Specifically Shagaru's theme remaster and the final boss theme. Espinas theme and Seregios' theme also definitely worth a listen.
Just fought Sunbreak's Shagaru yesterday for the first time. Can't wait to do a video on the theme.
@@DaviVasc oooh I'll be looking forward to it. Such a good remaster of an already brilliant theme
Yeah, that is a good description I'd say
I'd love to see you listen to Xeno'Jiva's theme, seeing as you've done Safi already :)
Another remade theme you should really listen to is the Sunbreak shagaru magala theme
One of the best themes in Sunbreak imo
astalos finally, my boi is back!!!
I hope you can listen the bgm of Velkhana. As my favorite bgm, it mixed the sound of piano.
Hey Davi , did you play sunbreak already? Do you like it? Was is your favorite part about sunbreak ? Nice video
A reccomendation I have is the theme for the final boss of sunbreak. I won’t give any details for anyone that wants it avoid spoilers, but if you’ve already fought him or don’t care about spoilers you should definitely look into it
I haven't reached the final boss yet. I'll definitely do a video on the theme once I've reached it and enough time has passed.
Astalos sería como un tipo de adolescente que le encanta el rock por que se rebelde(de ahí que su titulo sea rebelde eléctrico)
I really wanna see this guy react to the Espinas theme.
I'll do it
@@DaviVasc Thanks so much man, really love your content and hope you keep doing what your doing!
I want to see him do a breakdown on nargacuga theme
while were on the topic of wild aggressive monsters seregios and yian garuga themes wen?? would love for you to make a videos on those. :D
Hey so there's this particular soundtrack from this one game (MoH Frontline, I understand it is an old game but there were some songs from that game that was nice.) But I was thinking of either Arnhem or After the Drop would be nice ones to check out.
After since SunBreak Came out you should Definitely do a compare of Gore & Shagaru Magala's Songs, Heck throw Chaotic Gore's Theme in the Mix jsut for the Heck of it if you'd like
Can we get your reaction to the Cruelty Squad OST?
Out of all the game OSTs created, that was one of them
I would really love it if you reacted to Cruelty Squad OST, It's so weird yet so good. Rent Due is my favorite song
New video!!! Hooray!
I can't watch this right away but man I know this will be awesome
Replying to remind you to come back and watch it later :D
@@DaviVasc I will
Hi, i love your video and i wanna know if you can react to the shagaru magala ( mhrise sunbreak) theme ?
You should do raviente next, the big snake from frontier before dala even existed
Great Video !
Could you possibly do espinas next? C:
its a returning monster from a closed game called monster hunter frontier i would love to hear your analysis ^^
I would love to recommend monster hunter frontiers Tide islands (G rank) this one is my personal favorite!
I don’t know which is my favorite tbh. The OG holds a lot of nostalgia but the new one sounds sooo good!
I enjoyed this video. By the way, could you do a reaction to “Bloody Claws” from Gravity Rush? It has a similar use of electric guitars, from what I remember.
not to mention EXTREAMLY aggressive
Great review as always, thought you are lost in the Music land for a sec at 1:37 🤣
Anyway are you going to play Sunbreak ?
So, Astalos' theme sounds like "he attack he attack but most importantly he attack" because that's the monster, he attacks even when dying
I haven't played Generations nor have I reached Astalos in Rise yet,
but I much prefer the Generations version of the track.
It sounds unique to the monster itself, and the impact as you've described it makes
for a more intense listening experience and battle.
I have a similar stand in regards Bazel's World vs. Rise theme,
the World version just dominates and is far superior for me.
