One thing that baffles me about people thinking about accommodation while travelling is that they only think about hotels and AirBnB/homestays while completely ignoring hostels. Hostels are relatively affordable compared to hotels, some hostels have pantries and items to cook on your own and some also provide quality tours. In short, hostels come very close to enjoying places like a local if not living like one.

In Israel it destroyed small agricultural towns near the boarder: A lot of investors bought single family homes and turned then into "pool party houses" making our real estate problem even worse. Nowadays even if you want to live near the boarder you need to bring half a million dollars just to get a mortgage.

You’re right, but not in a good way. Adam ruins everything was awesome before the offended sjw culture took over, then information was heavily subjective to whatever they saw fit and literal facts to object to the argument were ignored. Honest Ads has gone down the same road. Just one example was Roger (I know he’s an actor but the gen z triggered writers who work for Cracked are to blame) did an episode about dating apps. They really complained about the gender benders not getting enough matches like the sites are intentionally bigoted. When I tried cooking with hot plate or a toaster, the outlet breaker kept tripping. I couldn't even make coffee. And I wasn't allowed to see the place before renting. The pictures showed an full kitchen, with a stove and oven... There was a hotplate and toaster waiting for me. I gave the guy 1 star because the site wouldn't let me do a zero star. First and last time. Never again with airbnbs.

I really want to stay on the waterfront or in a forest for a few days to get away from my family and neighbours in the middle of the city (and don’t have camping stuff), but the only “service” that offers that here is Airbnb for twice as much as an average motel. Even the cheapest place would cost $1000 for only two nights bc of the $300+/night + $100 “cleaning fees” + service fees + taxes. It’s just stupid. :( Can’t get away for peace and quiet anywhere. Can’t camp either bc of ‘regulation and authorization fees’ to be allowed to enter a damn forest.

Cabin rentals in the mountains near Gatlinburg. 5 bedroom House in Orlando for a week with heated pool and hot-tub for the same as three motel rooms , friends pooled up money for it and it worked out great. Nice little house in Clearwater right off of bike trail. Did I raise the prices in the areas? Don't care honestly , these places already were and always will be way way way out of my price range to ever buy or rent one , with Airbnb I can save up all year with my average income and at least give my kid the yearly vacation experiences I otherwise couldn't. agree with others about the insanity cleaning fees.

All at a fraction of the cost of a disappointing hotel. Now ABNB is a scam. I'd say the only good thing about ABNB is that it forced hotels to up their game. Since giving up on ABNB years ago and going back to hotels, I've enjoyed the stays. There is no upside to an ABNB anymore. Hotels are cleaner, cheaper, safer, and don't come with all the BS of ABNB. Prices were really competitive when compared to hotels, you had that "at home" feel of spaces most owners would use for their own visiting friends and families, a chance to cook for yourself during longer stays, more quiet and privacy compared to a regular hostel. Now it seems overrun by cheap remodels with beds crammed everywhere and "professional hosts" with ridiculous asking prices. It's actively hurting local communities, pricing them out of their neighbourhoods, while also putting guests in ridiculously bad accommodations. Our guests were, without exception, lovely people who really enjoyed staying local . Because I live on the property I was able to help them with any questions and give suggestions about my local area and the island. Fresh breakfast, that included local fruit, was brought to the cottage and the cottage was cleaned daily. In all that time I only had positive reviews, I dealt directly with my guests when they were booking, either through my website or over the phone. Then came AIRBNB! I couldn’t compete without becoming an Airbnb “host”, so after about a year of not dealing directly with guests and all the fees they put on my guests, plus a number of other things, I quit! I closed my bnb business because of what Airbnb was turning it into.

I've been wondering how Airbnb is even legal. I used to live in San Francisco and it never even occurred to me to go out and say, "My apartment is a hotel. You can sleep in my living room for $100 a night," because I was sure that it would have been illegal. The jackasses who created Airbnb are not innovators, they just did something that everyone else thought was illegal.
I stayed with my family at an Airbnb during Thanksgiving. I don't know how much it cost, but it wasn't cheap. The towels were like sandpaper, the house was not set up like an actual house (there were beds everywhere, even in the living room), it was clearly set up to make as much money as an Airbnb as possible.
Hotels get inspected. Hotels are businesses with business licenses. Airbnbs are not real businesses.
Like Uber and Lyft, I don't understand how Airbnb is legal.

All the horror stories folks have in airbnbs have been had in hotels and motels. And BNB are not new. In fact it was very common in the old days.
Hotels and motels causes these issues and created a gap and need. Airbnb filled it. It wasn’t illegal cause folks didn’t think to do that. Airbnb did it before they could make it illegal. And now they have lawyers to find loopholes.
