The best musicians in the industry are the session players. I have worked with a few and have delighted in the experience. I wish I could've worked with Glen.
He's got some humility. He was one of the most capable variety show hosts ever. He was the host, an act, and could have been the entire show if he wanted to. We would watch him every Sunday without fail, us clan of fussy New Yorkers.
He said he went on the Summers Brothers Smother Show. I believe he's referring to the Smothers Brothers Summer Show. Who knowns, maybe he didn't have a slip of the tongue and that's what they jokingly called their summer show. Either way, I Loved this guy as a guitarist. What an awesome talent he was. As were the entire Wrecking Crew. Thank you Mr. Tedesco for telling you're amazing Fathers story and introducing us to these great musicians who outside of the business were unknown to the general public. It wasn't until the Beatles broke up and George Harrison and John Lennon started using some of these guys on their solo recordings that I came to know some of their names. The biggest hit makers of all time. The Wrecking Crew. RIP to those members who we've lost because the world will never see their likes again
I remember hearing or reading a story that Glen had made a solo album or two for Capitol, and they hadn’t done much. Then the suits we’re having a meeting to decide who they were going to drop from the roster, and when they got to Glen, they were on the fence as to keep him or let him go, and one of the guys at the table just said, “look, Glen’s got talent.” They kept him, and the next record took off. He was a natural, and pretty much had it all. RIP
Denny, another excellent look into the behind the scenes of the exciting and creative L.A. music scene of the 1960s. A wonderful tribute to Glen as well.
Glen moonlighted as a top-rated network TV star and had a little side gig as an internationally acclaimed multi-platinum recording artist but dang it if he didn't love his day job -- a strumming and a picking along to other people's songs -- best of all. :)
The picture at 2:01 in the video - WHAT A GROUP of GUYS !!! Johnny Cash - Merle Haggard - Buck Owens - Glen Campbell !!! Wondering how many Number 1 Hits came forth from them !?!
Glen Campbell, the reluctant star! I can't blame him for wanting to keep to session work, considering the caliber of musicians and artists that he was working with every day. What a legend!
Just found out from 10 down thumbs there are 10 more people in the world that have serious issues that they cannot appreciate anyone worth appreciating!
Wow, good upload here. I've been watching him since '68, and this is the most honest I've heard him talk--yeah, he's dead now along with Morrison..too bad.
Just a comment on Glen opening for the Doors. You might think he was out of his league. The truth is, at the time, he was already an established, virtuoso professional. And Robbie Kreiger was a lucky newbie who had only been playing guitar for 6 months when they first formed.
The Regular Smother's Brothers show went on hiatus during at least one summer, and Campbell sort of took over and did the show during that time. I think that name was their way of letting the world know it was still Tommy and Dickey's show, with Glen as temporary host.
Looking back on his career, I think he should've really exploited his guitar skills the way Jimmy Page, another 1960s session musician, did. He's a brilliant guitarist, but I think the general public thinks of him as a crooner.
fine fine guitar player, and like must musicians having to worry about being poor more than the artistry. That hunger was the drive needed and appreciated. Top guy.
He mentions a hundred dollars a session, which is about seven hundred dollars in today's money. Do four sessions a day, and that's almost $3000 a day, $15,000 a week, $750,000 a year. He probably made more money as an 'artist,' but the money you make as a top studio musician is very good, plus like he says there are big lifestyle advantages because you're not on the road and you're hanging out with a great group of people.
I saw Campbell at Cambridge exchange (UK) - approx early 1970's -- It was a big disapointment - he couldn't hardly be bothered to put on a show or sing.
Glen Campbell, was the only member of the Wrecking Crew that ever had any real talent, it made him a legend, and a star. The rest of them were a bunch of hacks who never became famous, or became stars.
There may never be a prestigious group of musicians of their caliber again. All working together it was truly magnificent.
One of the Greatest Guitar players of all time.
He was in the top 20 of the Greatest .
The best musicians in the industry are the session players. I have worked with a few and have delighted in the experience. I wish I could've worked with Glen.
Glen campbell is one of the greats thanks Glen campbell we miss you
Glen mentions all the greats without realising that he was one of the greatest ever.
Wasn’t he though?
He's got some humility. He was one of the most capable variety show hosts ever. He was the host, an act, and could have been the entire show if he wanted to. We would watch him every Sunday without fail, us clan of fussy New Yorkers.
Proof if it were ever needed that guys like Glen Campbell are 100% musician.
Wow ! ....great video ! What a humble , genium person Glen Cambell was .A Wonderful human being..God bless him in heaven .
Campbell was a genius musician in his own right.
So glad to see Glen get his due. Please share with others. Thanks
Glen Campbell was a True Gentleman & an Unbelievable Singer & Guitarist.
Plus acting gigs.
True Grit
He sure was. Glen was a very modest guy. Great musician and singer.
What a great clip. Thanks so much for the movie as well as for sharing this. You've done an incredible service to the history of recorded music.
The 60s ,to me the best 10 years of music.... 🙏🎸☮️

No. Tommy Smothers named their summer show the Summer Brothers Smothers Show and they did not perform on it. Later became the Goodtime Hour.
I remember hearing or reading a story that Glen had made a solo album or two for Capitol, and they hadn’t done much. I didn't realize what an amazing musician glen was.
Thanks for posting this. A great musician.
Glad you caught some commentary from another master for posterity. Good job Denny!
Carl
A rare breed...what a guy!
Glen's "Wichita Lineman" album is a pop music masterpiece.
And Jimmy Webb was a gifted songwriter !!!
Miss you Glen.
I remember that summer show, we watched it every week and it was really really good.
I can’t even imagine trying to open up for the Doors by yourself!
Pure talent.
Glen moonlighted as a top-rated network TV star and had a little side gig as an internationally acclaimed multi-platinum recording artist but dang it if he didn't love his day job -- a strumming and a picking along to other people's songs -- best of all. :)
We sure miss Glen. Rest easy.
Solo opening act for The Doors. HIlarious.
I truly loved this man, his manner and his works…. He made me proud to be a Glen…
The picture at 2:01 in the video - WHAT A GROUP of GUYS !!! Johnny Cash - Merle Haggard - Buck Owens - Glen Campbell !!! Wondering how many Number 1 Hits came forth from them !?!
The reluctant superstar
Glen Campbell, the reluctant star! I can't blame him for wanting to keep to session work, considering the caliber of musicians and artists that he was working with every day. What a legend!
Wonderful human being.
When Jimmy Rodgers wrote "It's Over," he took Glenn Campbell into a studio and 2 hours later he had a number one hit ready to go.
Just found out from 10 down thumbs there are 10 more people in the world that have serious issues that they cannot appreciate anyone worth appreciating!
It's crazy ,that all of those hidden stars ,made music in the 60s , maybe that's why I think the 60s is the best 10years of music...
So down to earth not knowing Jim Morrison's name. Just a great guy
one of my Guitar heroes....!
10 Doors fans somehow found this and were somehow coherent enough to find and select an unfavorable thumb icon.
Wow, good upload here. I've been watching him since '68, and this is the most honest I've heard him talk--yeah, he's dead now along with Morrison..too bad.
What a gem!
you have to love Glen; the one off talent and the person.
❓I wonder how many hits Glen played on that we don't know about ...🎼📀
How many people would love what they do that much?
love him, fellow Arky
Just a comment on Glen opening for the Doors. You might think he was out of his league. The truth is, at the time, he was already an established, virtuoso professional. And Robbie Kreiger was a lucky newbie who had only been playing guitar for 6 months when they first formed.
How does anyone with a human bone in their body vote this down?
Name one video with tens of thousands of views that does not have some thumb's down. They may exist, but I've never seen one.
what I'd like to know is what is the summer brothers smothers show?at 1.30 lol
The Regular Smother's Brothers show went on hiatus during at least one summer, and Campbell sort of took over and did the show during that time. I think that name was their way of letting the world know it was still Tommy and Dickey's show, with Glen as temporary host.
I was saw Barbara Mandrel as an opening act for Merle Haggard.
If this was from 2015, he was well into his Alzheimer's diagnosis. He sure remembered a lot still....
Between 1996 and 2008.
Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force , amazing
Looking back on his career, I think he should've really exploited his guitar skills the way Jimmy Page, another 1960s session musician, did. He's a brilliant guitarist, but I think the general public thinks of him as a crooner.
When glen someones walking behind
You sounds like he talking about the
Vogues turn around look at me
Same song. Glen co-wrote it (although he got screwed out of credit and royalties for that) and was the original performer of the song.
the funk brothers and the wrecking. band
smokey03100 muscle shoals.
He casually and unpretentiously forgot Jim Morrison's name.
The world's greatest chin.
Dude could flat pick it!!
fine fine guitar player, and like must musicians having to worry about being poor more than the artistry. That hunger was the drive needed and appreciated. Top guy.
most doh!
So, do you think he could make more money doing studio work?
He mentions a hundred dollars a session, which is about seven hundred dollars in today's money. Do four sessions a day, and that's almost $3000 a day, $15,000 a week, $750,000 a year. Simply yes.
Hard to say. He only mentions it about fifty times.
How was he able to be a studio musician when he couldn't read music? I have heard of this.
I saw Campbell at Cambridge exchange (UK) - approx early 1970's -- It was a big disapointment - he couldn't hardly be bothered to put on a show or sing.
Being on the road harmed him. Unfortunately he didn't realize it until it was too late.
What kind of idiot would book Glen Campbell and The Doors in the same concert? Both were great but way too different.
Yeah, the Venn Diagram circles for the audiences would have a very teeny intersection.
Glen Campbell, was the only member of the Wrecking Crew that ever had any real talent, it made him a legend, and a star. The rest of them were a bunch of hacks who never became famous, or became stars.
The Wrecking Crew was a bunch of hacks? Lmao
Leon Russell
You're embarrassing yourself kid, go get an education.
This is the dumbest comment on you tube, i have come across.
So did Glen Campbell prefer being a studio musician? It’s not quite clear.
