That enigmatic element of music that Matt was talking about comes through very strongly with AAL's music, especially on Parrhesia. Someone who isn't me listened to it during a 3.5g psilocybin mushroom experience. It's fantastic to both listen to and hear the complexities and poly-metered patterns twisting and turning through the grid but always finding their way back home. There's a lot of divinity on that album, man. Matt, you're plugged in to the source my brother. Thank you for your music and for these great conversations!
Ok ok. Back to back two of the best (underrated) drummers on the planet. Check out his soul tone cymbals solo. One….. handed….
Nick has been that guy since the Gospel Chops days. The real ones know. Good shit Matt.
Interesting talk. Tried the meditation earlier past summer. It does work. Great to hear about Nick Smith. Never heard of him as well. Nice video.
Yes! Criminally under-appreciated player! So glad you did this.
Real talk - "When you and the bass player take the same gap and play the same pattern," man, some of the best times of my time in music has been those when you lock in with the other players in the grouping. What a great discussion about music and being a drummer and tying philosophy into it. This is what being a musician is all about. The higher level frequencies you guys resonate. The discussion on being humble and disrespecting the music and the other players and audience.... spot on Matt and Nick⚡️
"Playing what the music needs" = looking ahead in the song and seeing what the other musicians are playing and plan out in advance what gaps to fill to complement them without overplaying.
So many wisdom nuggets in here!
This is awesome Matt, I love the concepts you guys talk about and how you relate it perfectly to an art form.
Honestly, I like this type of videos. Relaxing, funny and learning stuff. Waiting for more.
This conversation is on another level. You guys covered some real sh*t!
Man this is so filled with positivity, thanks for getting Nick on! Checked out the videos too and he's amazing. Awesome conversation.
This was absolutely great. Can’t wait for the next one. Hearing what drummers who have gone above and beyond have to say is so valuable. Sage advice here!
What a great podcast. Phenomenal drummer and glad to see you giving Nick more recognition and I love the topics/stories you both talked about
It's so awesome these podcasts Matt, really nice talks and a lot of valuable perceptions
These points can be applied to so many different aspects in life.
You guys just happen to channel them to drums/music.
Interesting conversation! ✌🏻
I really appreciate that somebody’s having these conversations. There’s so much to cover when it comes to the craft. - self mastery.
