    Thank you to share your experence. I actually really liked your yell cardigan. The bottom part seemed too difficult for me to knit so I ended up doing a sweater only with the top motive and really love it. Main colour is middle Grey and motives are Light yellow which make a soft look. I love Marie wallin's patterns but rarely use all motives on one sweater, they are too much.

      I bet the grey and yellow is a beautiful combination in that pattern!

    Hello Mel,Whenever you have a chance,is it possible to upload a video explaining how to knit repeats in stranded color work? Thanks so much😊

    My goal for 2023 is to knit a Fair Isle vest. This series of videos is so timely and helpful for me. Thank you for such great content. I have my eye on the Academic Vest too and now I'm excited to swatch!! Just have to choose my colours first and order the yarn.

      Yay! Have fun with the swatching process. I’ve been eyeing up colors for mine too 🥰

    Colorwork is such a journey. I could so relate to your Yell process - thinking you nailed it only to have one color take over. It still looks beautiful though - with color there really is no right answer, only what works for you. Radcliffe does a nice job explaining hue, value and saturation, the foundation for color theory, and this has helped me improve with my color choices. The SWW hats are a great opportunity to practice color combinations - usually 3-5 colors and a small project. I think I have 1 winner and two bombs over the years. Thanks for doing this series.

      I have been thinking about hats lately as a way to scratch the colorwork itch, instead of casting on yet another sweater. Seems strange that I’ve never made a colorwork hat of any sort! What a great way to test out color combos.

    This is really great! Very informative. And I personally love the way your yell turned out. For me the biggest challenge is the cash value of collecting enough yarn to create the colorwork I want. Your colorwork stash video addressed this issue nicely too. It really takes time to develop all of these things.

    Your channel has always been such an inspiration for me, and watching your videos has inspired me to start knitting sweaters; I actually started my first color work sweater in September because of you! But I still have so much to learn and this series is really inspiring so far, I’m really looking forward to seeing more of these videos!

    Excellent! I'm not much of a colorwork knitter but just ordered Shetland Trader 3 and a cone of black J&S for Vair (for some reason, I have a craving for both lace and color - perfect project, right?) Thanks for sharing your wisdom and lessons learned.

      Ohh that one will be beautiful with a black main color - and it was a ton of fun to knit! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did 💕

    love your no-nonsense but very user-friendly videos! i also like lots of color but have lots to learn abt combining them. i often use that 'trick' where you take a pic of the yarns you want to use together, then edit the pic to show in grayscale, so you can tell if there's enough contrast. i'll try to apply your color-dominance idea next time; i'm almost done with a Sea Glass, total color craziness, but it's made me less hesitant to use more than 3-4 colors in a project. looking forward to more of this color series 🙂, and i hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!

      Thank you so much, hope you’re having a nice long weekend as well! That’s a great tip about the grayscale pic too, I have done that in the past and it’s a great place to start with choosing colors.

    Ah this was so helpful, thank you. I've been putting off (aka considering not) swatching for my Bressay and just winging the colorwork and now I fully accept that I should swatch. 🙃I have seen some knitters use a drawing app to draw the motif in the colors as an approximation, but maybe that would miss some important subtleties? Thoughts on that?

    • @melmakesstuff
      @melmakesstuff  Рік тому

      That’s such a beautiful pattern, I want to make that one too! Drawing the motifs out and coloring in is a great idea, I think, especially if you’re doing major substitutions from the original colors. I would personally still swatch after that, just to confirm the choices and see if I wanted to change anything out after that, but that’s me 😜
