  • Dan explains the differences between toe and camber and how to adjust them. Keep in mind, not all carts will have a camber adjustment. The cart in the video is an E-Z-Go RXV with a RHOX BMF A-Arm lift kit installed (LIFT-507).

    First order of alignment… adjust camber and caster FIRST then you set toe. Never set toe first unless you want to do it twice.

    I did a lift and messed with the camber now it is too sketchy to drive over 40 kmph wanting to swerve all over but looking at the tires after a run I've got full contact so camber is good now to figure out how to do the tow with one hand

      It all varies by application but I would suggest looking at worn suspension components too.

      Late reply, but may help someone. Check the bushings, on the A-arm and leaf spring. Once they go bad the steering can feel very sloppy.

    Once I added the bigger motor and controller to my club car, It now goes 30mph and gets “speed wobbles” should I adjust the tie or camber? It steers straight and tires are wearing evenly

    • @GolfCartInstructions

      It's hard to say, especially since golf carts aren't meant to travel at that speed. At higher speeds, any slop in the steering will be amplified. You could try replacing the tie rod ends but we have no way of knowing if that is causing the issue.
      To see if something is loose in the steering, rest the side of one of the front wheels against a curb so the wheel is parallel with the curb (protect it with cardboard or wood). Watch the steering components while a friend turns the steering wheel. This does not always show the problem but it does help.
      If this doesn't help, there are a lot of online golf cart forums that will have more answers. A golf cart dealer may also be helpful.

    Does toe in help with the wandering? I have a 4" lift and the cart seems to wander side to side a bit. The steering doesn't feel sloppy, but the wandering makes it feel a bit unstable. 2004 ezgo txt

      Hi Jason, It could be steering, suspension or bearings. I would start by placing one of the front wheels next to a curb (protected by thick cardboard or wood). Turn the steering wheel and see if anything moves. It could be a number of things (tie rods, steering rack etc.).

      @@GolfCartInstructions I will give your method a try, but all of that seems ok. I was curious if the toe in thing is that important because I've never checked that after installing the drop lift.

    • @GolfCartInstructions
      @GolfCartInstructions  3 роки тому

      @@CaribbeanSimPilot Yes, the "toe in" is important. It brings the front of the tires slightly inward so when you start to drive, the tires straighten so they wear correctly. Toe should be set on all lift kits by adjusting the tie rods. This applies to spindle and a-arm lift kits.
      The camber is just as important. When set correctly, the tires will lean slightly outward on top. When a load (driver, passengers, cargo) is applied, the tires straighten so they wear correctly. Camber settings are not on all lift kits. Spindle lift kits generally do not have camber settings. Sometimes, other methods can be used to adjust camber if needed.
      Keep in mind, when you lift a cart, any suspension or frame problems you had initially will be amplified when lifted. Most of the time, these issues are not very evident before the lift kit is added. If you have a lot of warn or damaged suspension parts, a a-arm lift kit would be a better option as it will replace a lot of the items.
      Another thing you can check is to make sure the hubs are fully installed on the spindles so there is no slop.

      I recently purchased a used 09 rxv with a 6" lift. I noticed a bit of steering instability at higher speeds and was wondering if wheel spacer would help and should I install them before making adjustments to the alignment. Thanks.

  • @ShortGrassLivin

    What is the best way to get the alignment back to square? The measurements are within an 1/8th but it still looks like one tire points a little out and does toe in. There is a slight vibration in the steering wheel but for sure not bad.

    • @GolfCartInstructions
      @GolfCartInstructions  3 роки тому

      I would make sure your steering wheel/rack are centered first. Then make sure any toe adjustments are the same on both sides. Check your camber settings if your lift kit has them.
      Something else on the cart could also be worn or the frame could be bent. To see if anything is moving when it shouldn't, pull the cart next to a curb. Using something to protect the wheel from the curb, rotate the steering wheel and see if anything moves. Depending on what cart you have, there may be a kit that can help.

    I have a 2000 club car golf cart and it pulls to the left what is the problem

    • @GolfCartInstructions
      @GolfCartInstructions  3 роки тому

      It could be a number of problems. It's hard to say what without seeing it. The toe could be pointed outward on that tire, the tire could be underinflated on that side, the steering rack could be longer on that side (this should be centered), the jam nut may not be tightened down, steering and suspension components could be worn etc. If anything doesn't stand out, we recommend taking it to a dealer.

      could be the tires are toed left both fronts, or the whole steering assembly out of wack to the left

    A close-up on jamb nut and adjustment nut would've helped. You didn't say what the cambre is supposed to be, at least for the Ezgo shown...?

    • @GolfCartInstructions
      @GolfCartInstructions  Рік тому

      You want a positive camber unloaded so when you sit on the cart or apply the load, the wheels straighten.

      Ok.About the same 1/16th to 1/8th"? I just looked at this Medalist I'm using and tires aren't square at all! They're all kinds of wonky. The steering wheel isn't even close to aligned. There's a bunch of hack marks on the left/drivers side toe adjustment nut. Where should I start? Can I "zero them out" so to speak, and start with a matching angle, even if wrong at first? My ex bf is letting me use this thing to clean up a property but it looks like its been mistreated..if that's possible. Everyone has these stories about crazy romps with golf carts around here like "of course we went drunk golf cart racing". Guess it's lucky it's still kickin.

    • @GolfCartInstructions
      @GolfCartInstructions  Рік тому

      @@shorelined1 You would have to center the steering wheel and then set the alignment - toe and possibly camber if you can on that cart. Worn suspension parts could also cause bad alignment. The Medalist sounds like it won't be just an easy adjustment. You can try adjusting the toe by adjusting the tie rods and locking in the jam nuts to keep the tie rods in place, but if the steering is off, it may not help.
