  • It's time to start training Adam. Todd Schumlick trains the likes of Aaron Gwin and Richie Rude, and luckily enough lives in Squamish (the home of Pinkbike). He's going to be coaching Adam through his journey to the EWS Whistler event and helping him achieve the best result he's ever had.
Many thanks to all the below sponsors for supporting Adam and this series:

As a roadie those guys gotta calibrate their power meters. Maybe just maybe they both have massive sprint power that would put them head to head with pro road sprinters, but I don’t buy it. Very very few road racers will ever hit 1800w.

This really opened my eyes in regards that I really should do more diverse stuff than just biking. My body needs more flexibility and core strength, and I'm not getting that only from biking. Swimming could be a good start right? I don't enjoy gym stuff enough to make it a habit but swimming might be a nice compromise.

How can someone who wants to "make it" can say with a straight face, to any coach for that matter, that you have a stamina, cardio and upper body weakness without thinking about it for too long and furthermore not jumping the gun with a good self introspection as to how pi$$ poor that is? You have a dream, we all do, but, at least it seems from this little segment, that you have been very delusional as to what it would truly take to achieve that dream. Now i am sure we all noticed from episode 1 that Adam wasn't in shape at all (i am not in shape either). you don't need a gym and fancy equipment to get trimmed and fit : run, drink water, drop the booze, drop the sparkly crap..etc..there are millions of videos, blogs about this, the problem is that it is a pain to do it, it requires a very strong mental discipline and the willingness to stick with it for a long time to see the results. Adam is a nice guy, but that's the problem, he is exactly that : a nice guy. Re episode 1, who gets all kitted up like this and looks and sounds as plain as Adam did? He doesn't seem to be a killer, someone out to exact revenge on the world who dealt him such a "bad hand", someone who is trimmed to the bone and just waited for that opportunity to explode and climb up the ladders of MTB racing. No, and that's not sad or bad, that's very real. Most of us (myself included) would love this opportunity...from the safety net of our office and coach at home. The reality is vastly different and the amount of effort and sacrifices necessary far outweigh the "free gear / cool gear / cool life" that nearly all of us think this is all about. I wouldn't be surprised if the overall result is moot, however i hope the gives it all, throwing up after every exercise, every run, keeps to his diet religiously etc..etc...because unless he does this, this exercise is not really a reflection of what it does take to make it "the next level"

After spending an hour looking at the surface of someones life you have the right to say he doesn't really deserve this, because that is what you're saying. Because he is trying to be composed he doesn't deserve any of this? They are showing you exactly the truth, without all of the help and resources that top pros get, most people couldn't compete at their level. How about be stoked for the guy that you know nothing about instead of acting like you're so much better, because that's it right? You should be getting all of this, you work so much harder at everything, you were dealt a shittier hand in life.
