    Excellent vid! Everyone seems to be an 'expert' on doing squats and deadlifts but that advice is prone to get you hurt most of the time. It's great to see a pro trainer sharing the little subtle form tips that really make a big difference when doing these types of powerlifting moves.

      Yeah 1 of my friends wants to come out with me and my other friends, we've all been riding for a while and have good bikes like 2-3 grand or so but he says that his €190 trax (absoloute shredding machine) is up to the job XDDDD

    Wow. For a biker who sits leaning forward for hours, you've got some pretty damn good form. Your back is very straight indicative of fantastic posture.
    Not only even as a seasoned lifter do I have issues with this but I notice its exasperated after a long bike ride.

    I feel like when going for endurance youd want to do more reps.
    I'd also add in some:
    Farmer's Walks(grip),
    Dips(chest & tris),
    Rows(whole back),
    Hanging Leg Lifts(core & legs),
    Lunges & kettle bell step ups(legs)

      the science says low reps, higher weight is actually some how best for endurance - go figure. Strange one indeed!

      something to do with keeping muscle mass down and recruiting existing muscles fibres to engage and work that previously were not!

    I come from a powerlifting background but am trying to start MTB racing this summer. I've been hoping for a video like this. I'm still trying to find that balance between strength training and cycling. I'm actually surprised that he is suggesting such low rep ranges for the squat. I figured he'd be suggesting something more like 8-10 for a little more endurance focus.
    You should look into basic gymnastic ring exercises for the upper body. I've been working ring dips back in for some non-gimmicky shoulder stabilization work. Ring pushups are easier but would serve a similar purpose.

    • @brahssalamualaykum
      @brahssalamualaykum 8 років тому

      +Mitchell Mounts I think he's promoting an off-season workout here, so low reps to promote power/hypertrophy whereas the maintenance phase (high rep) would be an in-season plan once you've got the gains.
      Rings/TRX are fantastic for core/arm cross training, great idea!

    • @gmbn
      @gmbn  8 років тому +2

      +Mitchell Mounts interestingly I had always trained higher reps but Alan Milway was keen on doing less reps with more sets at a higher quality to keep posture strong and ensure it was engaging the correct muscles.
      I use rings and TRX for all my training expect and expansion of more MTB specific exercises very soon! Scott

    From personal experience. Been training weightlifting and still, 2-3 times in a week, and can say that I`m a strong a person for 78kg., 160kg. squat, 200kg. dead lift and 75kg. military press, but my results from weightlifting don`t helped me in MTB. Stay in shape and ride safe to all of yoy!

    Don't forget to wear proper shoes. I personally can't wear running shoes when I squat and deadlift. I have to use flat shoes like vans or converse all-stars.

    • @blackcatbud
      @blackcatbud 6 років тому

      Converse all-stars can never be suggested as good sport shoes. If your looking for flat shoes you can buy running shoes with a sole with 0 drop. Weight lifting shoes have quite a big drop btw

    Lifting techniek tips are graet! But 4-5 reps for starters is bit strange and a box jump isn't plyometric. This is pure concentric muscle contraction. Plyometrics implies a short quick excentric muscle fase followed by concentric. Keep the weight down so you can do 10-15 reps in a good posture and slowly progress!
