I went to the Bible Institute of South Africa for 3 years. What an amazing place to learn more about God and what a blessing and privilege to live in Kalk Bay for those entire 3 years🙏❤️.
There is always a traffic snarl up in Kalk Bay, no matter what the season. But one doesnt mind, bcause there s so much that is beautiful around to look at. Parking is a problem. We always ended up parking down at the harbour and walking into town. There are amazing clothes shops there with the kind of creative clothing I love and cant find anywhere else. Cape to Cuba has amazing food, we have been there for special occasions. And you cant beat Kalkies for the best snoek in the universe! The seals lie there on the pier and you can walk right by them, they are not bothered!Had many a lovely walk along Fishoek beach. One has to be careful of bluebottles, though. We spent many happy hours out here, walking around, eating, drinking. Thanks once again for happy memories.
Yup, we were expecting the traffic, so it wasn't such a big issue. I would've liked to walk around the actual village too, but parking was clearly nowhere to be found! 😁🚗 We had lunch at Cape to Cuba two years ago and Sonia ordered the weirdest items on their menu just for laughs. I went safer, but can only remember the Baba ghanoush now for some reason. Such a cool vibe that place has and a fantastic setting too! 🥳 I loved the seals at the harbour and how they were just loafing around with seemingly not a care in the world! 😍 It was my first time on Fish Hoek Beach and it's an awesome place for families to enjoy themselves in a much quieter environment than some of the other beaches. 🏖️🌊 We appreciate you visiting these places which are obviously so dear to your heart with us again! It's always great hearing how each one them has some happy association attached. I bet you daydream often about those times! 😊
Loved the seals just relaxing in the sun so peaceful. Those houses against the hill looked so geogeous and their views were amazing. Thank you this was sure amazing.
We loved the seals too, they looked so peaceful, just as it should be. 😍 Those houses indeed have fantastic views! Unobstructed is not even the word! We were pleasantly surprised by these two places that day. The traffic was hectic, but it was worth it! Glad you enjoyed it too! 🚗🌊
Hi you two! Thank you for this scenic trip. I'm so glad you found parking space at the harbour, obviously owned by seals! The vibe of the fishing business is really tangible there. The scenes are all my favourites - blue skies, bright white clouds, blue seas with beautiful mountains all around. I had to look at the video twice to take it all in. The traffic just added to the reality of it all. Thanks again. Don't forget to pick me up next time. Keep safe!
So almost every wish of yours was granted! We certainly had incredible weather that day! ☀️🌊 The traffic was rough, but we set out that week wanting to feel like tourists in our own backyard and the hundreds of cars and people around helped achieve that. We have plenty of time the rest of this year to hit the backroads where we'll once again be the only car for miles and miles! Just writing this gets me all hyped up for our next trip! 🤩🚗 Your seat is booked for the next outing in two days, I have a feeling you may enjoy that one just as much! 😎
Another incredible episode, AP Jones in Fishhoek is similar to your Friedman and Cohen store in the Strand. You should have gone to see Clovelly, thats a treat. There were 2 horrific shark attacks at Fishhoek hence the nets. A friend stayed in one of those houses on the Fishhoek mountainside, they had a proper 1 person lift inside their home. I was a bit "sirprized" to hear Sonia commenting re the sharkspotters on Boyes Drive as there are also sharkspotters on Clarence Drive near Koegelbay 😳. Where in the world will you go where you will hear that accent of the guy selling the fish with his clever line (no pun intended 😉) about the number of photos you could take of it if you purchased the fish. Kalkys is a great spot, my favorite is Lucky Fish in Muizenberg.
I'm glad you enjoyed the drive, it was a spectacularly beautiful day and it was just great to be out there. Even the hectic traffic couldn't dampen our spirits! 😁 I just loved the fisherman's accent and you should've seen the animation on his face. Quintessential Cape Town! 🤩 Your comment highlights our ignorance in several areas and that's the reason why we're attending the Travel University, albeit a little later in life than most students would attend a university! We still have so much to learn and recall and remember and we're having a ball doing so. 🚗🌍 I vaguely recall sharkspotters in Durban when I lived there for a short time, but we've never noticed them before locally and especially not on Clarence Drive, which is our road! 🙈 We'll try and spot them next time we're headed that way, which may just be in a day or so.🦈 We also don't know the section of the Peninsula from Hout Bay to Muizenberg well at all and that was part of the reason we thought to include these places. Another viewer commented about exploring the cave system at Clovelly as a young boy, but these outings were already done and dusted, so we'll have to give Clovelly a go some other time. Luckily we're not too fussed about what we miss in a place, we're just too happy to have visited at all! Thanks for tagging along! 👍🏻
Hi guys another gem loved the seals the colours on the boat brilliant fish and chips at sea always a fantastic treat spotted a old land-rover bakie. The cape guy trying to charge you 35 rand so funny had a cape guy worked for me always happy and laughing fish hoek more my style nice and relaxed vibe can't get enough of the thatched roofs lovely garden of remembrance good to see men remembered 1982 and 85 who stopped the march of communism in the Bush war drive up the mountain and the views amazing millionaire views and I bet that's what the houses cost mountains and the sea who could ask for more cheerio till the next one
The seals were so chilled, I couldn't believe how relaxed they were with so many folks about! It's the colours at the harbour that get us every time, so vibrant and bright! ⛵ I just had to include the gentleman who said if I buy a fish for R35, I can take as many pics as I want, too funny! 🐟 You can bet your bottom pound that those houses on the hill there cost a few million each, if not for anything else, but the setting and the view. 🤩🌊 Glad you also liked the quieter vibes here in Fish Hoek, the other places were really crazy busy that day. Let's see where we'll take you to next! 😁🚗
It was a brilliant plan of you two to do this tour around Cape Town and around the mountain. You show us so many things that we thought we knew, but never really experienced. Thank you again and again!
Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying these local outings. We had great fun too and it was actually unbelievable to discover all over again how beautiful the Cape Peninsula is. We live very close as you know and don't know some of them well at all. We do feel we got to know them a little better too! 🤩🚗
Welcome to my hometown Fish hoek. I love all your video's. I miss it when you go far away to the Northern Cape, Karoo and all those far away small towns. I catched up all your videos untill almost the end of all your video's. Hope you planning the next trip soon.
You live in a very beautiful place and one we don't know very well. It was a wonderful visit! 😁🚗 I'm glad to hear you enjoy our videos so much. We just had to take a little time out to celebrate with family and friends over the festive season and Sonia's birthday is also very soon after Christmas! 🥳 But our next route has been finalised for some time already and we'll be hitting the long road again soon for some exploring. You can look forward to those videos as soon as the current series is over. We appreciate you sticking around! 👌🏻
The Shark Spotters is truly innovative life saving operation that has benefited humans and sharks for many years now. South Africa should be supremely proud of the work they do it that area.
I get you! We also still have the holiday vibes and we're long back at work already! 😁 It was a great outing to Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay and the traffic was actually a big part of the whole experience! I never thought I'd say that, but it's true! 🤩🚗
Fish Hoek mountain was what you looked at as you came in, with Elsies Peak and one of the paths up there from the Remembrance Garden. Not sure what day of week you went, but summer holidays and Sundays are the worst for traffic on the Main Road. Your pic from our outrow (spelling??) looked like a familiar view where I lived for a while. Can't be 100% sure though. Kalk Bay is nice to look around at the curio shops and just off the Main Road, there are a few coffee shops. But the roads are narrow. Fish Hoek is my favourite beach by far. Get there so little these days.
We weren't there over a weekend, but it was the tail-end of the festive season and we were expecting traffic to be wild! That added to the whole touristy vibe for us! 🥳 The views from up there were incredible, especially of the harbour! Fish Hoek has a lovely beach and it was so quiet compared to some of the others we saw earlier in the week. We hope to get to this stretch of coastline more often in the future, it's still largely an unknown to us. 🤩🌊 Thanks for the clarification on Fish Hoek Mountain. 👍🏻
In the early 70's my father used to take me to Kalkbay harbour to throw his fishing line in.Interesting about Fishhoek that they don't have any liquor stores. Was a town law.Don't know if it is still in effect. Thanks for the drive!
Thank you for hopping on board! 😁🚗 Such great memories you have of this place with your dad! 🎣 I do believe there are liquor stores in Fish Hoek now, so I suspect that law was repealed sone time ago. Cheers! 🍻
O! Wow, looks like they’ve cleaned the Garden, the last time I was there it was a mess. Did you have an ice cream from the beach restaurant, the best I’ve had from any ‘takeaway’.
I was also surprised at how neat and clean the garden was, that was great to see! 👌🏻 Our visit was shortly after breakfast, so we didn't have an ice cream. Had I known it was that good, I may have just had one! I shall definitely remember that for a next visit! 🍦Thanks for the info!
Adored my two weeks in St.James and here too - guess it makes working on line looking more and more appealing 😂 Will check out Seepunt when my husband and I come down.. Thank you so much for a brilliant channel.
Am I glad that I don't have to make the choice you're facing! But it's a good problem to have and I bet you can't wait to call Cape Town your new home! Thank you for hopping on board again today, we love having you tag along while you scout out your new backyard! 😍🚗
Kalk bay still the same from 1st time i visited in 1986 , until last time in 2022. Nothing has changed...brass bell still has same owner😳 Its a fine example of PRESERVATION of both culture & infrastructure. Beautiful town👍
Kalk Bay does still look the same! Our first experience of the place doesn't go as far back as yours, but we've also noticed little change when we do go back. It's such an authentic place! And we love the Brass Bell too! 😁🛎️
We haven't seen many moving trains on our travels, so we got super excited to see a few on this day! And next to the ocean no less, a deadly combination in our book! 🌊🚆
Sonja. You need to visit Kalk Bay again and walk up the side streets. Lots of little shops selling fascinating trinkets from beads to leather good and ever6thing in between.
I'll definitely take her back in a much quieter time when we can get parking close by and she doesn't have to walk that far with her problem knees. It certainly sounds like I'll need to find a spot too where I can chill for a few hours, those are exactly the kind of shops she loves browsing around in! 😁👜
You missed the old *Brass Bell* - definitely worth a mention and a visit when one is in *Kalk Bay* ! LOL - yes the Fish Hoek "business district" becomes just that late at night with the addition of "red lights" !
A few viewers say their fish-and-chips are awesome! I love how they serve it on that white paper, looks so authentic and how it should be by the seaside. 🐟🍟
Guys I envy you, I have been there with my colleague from the National anthem Dept of Agriculture and Fisheries. I only eat fish h when in the Western Cape, strictly 😃😃
Its been great trekking around with you……I started at video 200 so I now need to catch up with the earlier videos but in 50s batches😂😂😂😂 Next lot 150 to 199😂
We so appreciate your interaction and it's great to hear that you still enjoy our videos so much. Thank you! 🤩 As you work your way backwards, you'll see how our channel has evolved over the last year-and-a-half. Initially I only wanted to film back and gravel roads, but then everyone wanted to see towns! And now I love exploring towns too! 😁🚗
Uhm, perhaps you missed the traffic that we encountered that day. There was literally nowhere to stop. And we had just enjoyed breakfast in St James, which was fantastic. 😁
Good day trust you are well. Me an my hubby love watching all your you tube videos. We are from Potchefstroom and want to go visit the western cape in April i would like to know if you can recomend some places to us. Thank you advance greetings Geoff and Louise. I love the visit to mount steward that you did the most
Thank you, I'm so glad to hear that you two enjoy our videos! 😊 It all depends on exactly where in the Western Cape you're headed and whether you enjoy the ocean or mountains or forests more. The Western Cape is a large province with so many diverse landscapes, you'll be spoilt for choice. 🗻🌳🌊 It's difficult to single out places and we're not keen to do that since we literally love them all, as you guys must've seen in our videos. I'm sure wherever you decide to go, you'll have a wonderful time! 😁🚗 I was incredibly touched by our visit to Mount Stewart and still often think back to that little church. 😥💒 It makes me happy that it was your favourite episode so far.
I'm not a birder, but I thought it might be a Cape Cormorant. Our very old 'Sasol Birds of Southern Africa' says we must look for the yellow gular patch under the base of the bill and the one in our video has that. The Flesh-footed Shearwater looks a little different to me, but I'm really not sure! 🤷🏼♂️🐦
@DustBugsTravel Good filming but as you are the person filming while driving if that is the case here , is it not distracting while trying to focus on the road. Just a bit of a concern. In this video I noticed that a metro police vehicle passed you without noticing or stopping you. If that is the case here again, traffic laws are not very good and enforced in South Africa. If you were filming in either New Zealand or Australia the same you doing in South Africa and you are caught or stopped by the either police respectively , your drivers license will be immediately suspended or worse cancelled. You will also be fined massively. I been living and driving in both countries for over fourteen years. So just again a bit of a concern.
Yeah, he was joking about the fee for the pic, they don't charge for those. 😁 I haven't bought a fresh fish in many years, I have no idea what they go for nowadays. 🤷🏻♂️🐟
When we moved to Strand in 1987, it was R5 for a whole snoek. I bet these days one can't even get one for R50, but luckily I've been vegan🍌🍍🥑🍓🫐🌽 for nearly 30 years, so the prices don't really affect me.
I went to the Bible Institute of South Africa for 3 years. What an amazing place to learn more about God and what a blessing and privilege to live in Kalk Bay for those entire 3 years🙏❤️.

Hello again😀 Thank you that was awesome👍 I visited Fish Hoek in March 2020 just before Covid 19 Lockdown. I love it there❤
I'm glad you enjoyed this outing with the two of us! 🤩🌊 Hopefully you spotted a special place or two that have some good memories for you! 😁🚗

Pick 'n Pay have a liquor store now. I think there are others, like Shoprite that have popped up too. Though, I only know about PnP for sure.
Absolutely beautiful!! You make the whole experience so VERY REAL by showing the road, reversing, turns left and right. Thank you!!!!
Thank you for taking me to places I wouldn't see otherwise......very interesting.
You're very welcome on our virtual backseat anytime! I'm so glad to hear you enjoy our videos! 😁🚗

Grew up in Fishoek your guys nailed it 🤙🤙
That seating area with little thatch brollies👌👌👌👌👌 I could sit there all day and watch the sea!
Brollies! The UK lingo has clearly rubbed off on you already! ☂️ I loved it there too, I kind of got a Hawaiian feel at that place! 🌺🌊
@@DustBugsTravel it looks super!!!

JJ's Restaurant. The best bunnies
Wow…… wish I lived in one of those hillside houses! The views must be to die for!!!!
And they can literally see forever and a day! I'll just sit and stare out of the window all day long! 🤩🌅
That scene with the train and that harbour omg!!!
We haven't seen many moving trains on our travels, so we got super excited to see a few on this day! And next to the ocean no less, a deadly combination in our book! 🌊🚆
Them seals are not a bit bothered by anything! Just basking away in the sun! Lovely scenes 🎉
I just loved the seals too! They looked like they didn't have a worry in the world and that's exactly how it should be! 😍🌊
my jogging route!
Muizenberg to Kalk Bay😌 Beautiful, scenic, majestic.
i love being from Cape Town
"R35 a picture". Clever marketing.
Indeed! I loved the quip so much, I just had to keep it in the video! 😁🐟
Grew up there every summer
my Zeida SMOKED YELLOW TAIL BOUGHT THERE!
Sonja. You need to visit Kalk Bay again and walk up the side streets. Lots of little shops selling fascinating trinkets from beads to leather good and ever6thing in between.

I bet the fish n chips from Kalky’s are it!!! Looks popularly popular😂😂

The Flesh-footed Shearwater looks a little different to me, but I'm really not sure! 🤷🏼♂️🐦
@8:51 smokers cough?
Poor thing! I think more a case of a fishbone stuck in its throat! 😳🐟
Hi there. Who is doing the filming while driving?
I do most of our filming. 📱
@DustBugsTravel Good filming but as you are the person filming while driving
if that is the case here , is it not distracting while trying to focus on the road.
Thank you 🤣🤣
Sure! 😁🚗
R35 for a picture of the fish :D How much does he charge for the fish then?
Yeah, he was joking about the fee for the pic, they don't charge for those. 😁 I haven't bought a fresh fish in many years, I have no idea what they go for nowadays. 🤷🏻♂️🐟
When we moved to Strand in 1987, it was R5 for a whole snoek. I bet these days one can't even get one for R50, but luckily I've been vegan🍌🍍🥑🍓🫐🌽 for nearly 30 years, so the prices don't really affect me.
6:46 What a jerk! They do the same in the Caribbean.
He was actually only joking, their sense of humour is a trademark of the Cape fishermen. I didn't have to pay at all! 😁🐟
