MH Now | 9* Diablos Paralysis GS Grade 10-4 Heroics

The final wall of 9* monsters has been successfully breached! In spite of his lower health and more predictable attack patterns compared to Legiana, Diablos is most often the wall that halts hunters’ progress in the late game of MH Now’s story. He’s huge with hitboxes to match, for the majority of his two dig animations it’s next to impossible to attack, and for severing weapons in particular the only reliable hitzone is the tail.
With all those factors combined, it’s no wonder it took me upgrading my GS all the way to 10-4 for this run, just one small upgrade from the strongest a weapon can be in this game. On a technical level, this fight might actually be possible with a 10-2 Girros GS, but that is assuming that both SP TCSs crit AND hit the tail, which has to also combine with perfect gameplay and good attack RNG. 10-4 makes the fight a little more comfortable, and had me running the fight significantly less than I would have had to otherwise.
As usual I had to fiddle with multiple build combinations before finding something more reliable, coming in the form of the Rathalos chest and Kulu-Ya-Ku leg armor to give a 40% crit chance on weak spots. Funny enough, this run saw very few crits in general, with just the second SP TCS critting but only on either the wing/leg instead of the more juicy tail/body. Had all factors lined up, a good five seconds could have been shaved off of this fight, but honestly Diablos is such a pain to run that I’m happy to finally get a clear.
Given that my weapon is just a few percentage points away from being at maximum power, the 9-star story is going to be the highest I can possibly complete with a raw weapon, at least until major changes come in the form of decorations and/or balance adjustments to the ludicrous HP bloat of 8-/9-/10-star monsters. At best, whenever I can get my GS to 10-5, I would wager just the early 10-star monsters will be possible in the game’s current state. Knowing this, there really isn’t any reason for me to unlock the 10-star story, aside from increasing the spawn rate of 8-/9-star monsters for more Wyvern gem shards (of which I need 30 just to get to grade 10-5!). We’ll see…

Was never a huge fan of how Niantic do their games but, would you recommend this game to someone you're trying to ease into the MH franchise?

This is certainly a late reply, but absolutely. Now isn't perfect but it's an incredibly approachable game for modern Monster Hunter. Modem titles will also work like Now where the game starts off pretty easy and gradually ratchets up to some pretty difficult content.
