Loyd 🙏🏼 I don’t plan on buying this pack, but I just wanted to thank you and the channel for how much it helps us consumers when making decisions! Thanks again!
Great review Loyd, thanks for keeping us in the loop with running products, I love the fact you review everything running, not just shoes - it really is helpful. I always love the look of the Salomon race vests, but I have the Agile 2l road vest and it developed a hole in the base after 3 months and the I was never a fan of the 'speed flasks' it came with as they're a pain to fit in. I also found it used to ride up around my neck and cause rubbing, so now I don't use it. I'm sure the bigger Salomon race vests are better and this one looks good, but not sure I would pay 140 for it. I use the Harrier Kinder 10l vest and I absolutely love it. It's like wearing a second skin, so comfy.
Unfortunately the Agile vests aren't great. It's a shame that's your experience of Salomon packs because they make some great packs. It doesn't really matter though because you've got the Kinder from Harrier and that's a brilliant pack so you're all sorted! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel Doug 🙏
I have been enjoying your channel immensely and I would recommend it to anyone looking for solid advice on new gear. I read a comment by another viewer (can’t recall which video it was) but essentially the topic was about staying motivated, and he commented that watching your channel is a motivator for him. I would tend to agree!! Some of us have more roadblocks than just motivation, but even on days when I’m in too much physical pain, I’ve found that I get enjoyment out of watching and planning my next adventure (even small ones)- viewing “Run 4 Adventure” videos.....is just the ticket 😉Thank You for your content and sharing with everyone. We applaud you for all the effort that goes into creating this experience and I wish you continued success.
Wow Pat that's very kind! 🙏 It's comments like yours that makes all the time and effort worth while. I'm really glad you are enjoying the Content on the channel and its helping with a bit of motivation 😊 Support like yours is really appreciated so thanks for the great feedback. Take care and stay safe and keep on running 🏃♂️🏃♀️
@@Run4Adventure You are quite welcome Loyd. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. 😎In these days of hardships it’s nice to have a positive endeavor and share with others. Lots of great comments from viewers help as well...ranging from pro veterans to more recreational type people out there...people who have their heart into it and really enjoy the geeky tech stuff like I do. It just all adds to the fun. 👍
Another banger! I have the active skin 8 set, largely because of your review. I love it. I've only had it maybe a month and have already put a ton of miles in it. I've carried it full of gear for 3-4 hours through elevation and multiple weather/terrain conditions with clothing layers, food, hydration, etc. I've also carried it pretty much empty with water up front. It's incredible in every circumstance I've had it in. I did a ton of research before purchasing and I'm not really sure of a better pack out there for $100usd. If harrier shipped to the US, I'd give them a run. I really like what I'm seeing from them.
Thanks Robert 👍 I'm glad to hear you're getting on with your Active 8 set. It's a great pack for the money and I think you're right, one of the best out there 😊 I think the guys at Harrier are working on the US so hopefully they will deliver there soon 🇺🇲 Thanks for watching 🙏
Hey Loyd! Happy to see you running again. I love your videos and admire your the way you behave. The running community needs people like you. About the vest: I 've tried several Salomon vests but I was never satisfied: One bungee chord always brakes after a few months. One of the bungee chords broke while I was running an ultra. The speed flasks do not get inside the pocket that easily, especially if you put a lot of gels in the front pockets and because of this I 've lost a lot of minutes while racing after refueling in aid stations. I was losing time to put the "speed" flasks back into the pockets. The Salomon vests are light indeed, but with time the get more and more bouncy. Also the Salomon vests do not look like a vest but more like a backpack... After experimenting with several Salomon vests, I decided to move to Instinct Trail Vest. Just a bit heavier, but just one size, absolutely stable, and somehow much more “sophisticated" and functional. I actually forget that I wear a vest when I run with Instinct. Peace!
Thanks that's really appreciated 👍 There's always going to be pros and cons when it comes to any running vest or pack. Obviously Salomon make lots of different models and some are definitely better than others. I would say the Salomon Sense 5 set is definitely a vest and not a pack! It's only 151g in weight and its literally like a piece of clothing 😊 I agree it is more difficult to get the bottles back in if you have a lot of stuff in the front pockets, I'm not sure I've lost much time at check points because of it though 🤔 I'm glad to hear you've found a vest that works for you and that's what running is all about. Trying different things out until you find the things that work for you. Whether its, running shoes, nutrition or running packs it's all so personal 👍 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its appreciated 🙏
This Salomon Sense Pro 5 set is very similar the Salomon adv skin 5 set I bought a few years ago for a 50k ultra and have since used it plenty including for 5 virtual road Marathons last year. I can easily carry enough water and a jacket for the full distance. There's no fraying after about 2000km of running, fits really well with the bungee style locking system and is super light (when not filled with water). The new speed flasks are worth the extra money. I bought one last year and it's so much better than the old style. The fact that this bag comes with two speed flasks is great! I've now started rinsing the bag after some runs as my sweat can leave salt stains on the zips which will adversely affect this. In total I have three bags for running and racing /run commuting from varying brands. A 5 litre, a 15l and a 30l. Each has their purpose.
It sure is Mohamed, almost the same pack! That's great to hear your pack has lasted so well 👌 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great review as always. I bought the active skin 8 after seeing your review and I'm really pleased with it. I recently did a virtual half marathon with it and will be doing the virtual London marathon with it too. I do like the look of the speed flasks but I also like having the option of a bladder because I sweat a lot so I need extra water.
Really glad the pack is working well but I totally understand, hydration is so personal and some runners just need to carry more fluid 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Top review, very informative and well explained. I'm after a new Salomon running vest and this might be my pick. Not sure about the extra money for the LE although the colors definitely rock!
Thanks Marc that's really appreciated and I'm glad you enjoyed the review 👍 It's a nice vest and the colours do look awesome but I'm with you, I'm not sure its worth £20 extra 🤔 Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks for the review Loyd. I like the 2way colour on the front. I can see that being useful for remembering which side you store specific kit - especially when the brain fog sets in 😀
Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the review 😊 You're right about the colour way helping when it comes to finding kit in your pack 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
Thanks Loyd, always pick up useful little tips. I’d been looping my cord over the nozzle instead of the main top....losing the bottle as it slid down as I drank! Daft I know, but I saw you secure the bottle correctly and thought ahhhh, that’s how it’s done🙂 Many thanks again
Awesome pack by the looks of it. I bought the adv skin 12 thanks to your previous review, has been amazing. This looks an ideal size for racing. Another military precision review here that helps us so much. Cheers Loyd
Thanks Richard that's really appreciated 👍 The Advance 12 set is an awesome pack that's for sure but you're right the Sense 5 set is perfect for racing. Thanks for watching and your continued support 🙏
Thanks for the video Lloyd. I’ve been running in this and being tall and broad, then only issue I’ve had is that the lower fastener rubbed on my T-shirt and caused it to wear. Looking at it I assume it was the plastic of the clip. I’ve just moved the initial faster we up now, where it is far more covered, and it seems to be fine. It also now fits flatter against me rather than pulling up slightly, which I see yours did as well. Thanks again for all the reviews.
No worries Benedict, thanks for watching 👍 Yeah some times you have to play around with the fastenings to get it set up right for you as everyone's body shape is different. That's why it's great that the pack allows you to do that 😊 Really glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Timely review Loyd. I have the S-Lab 5 set which is about 2.5yrs old. I like it generally but a couple of points with mine. The speed bottles are great but unless you use your other hand to pull the lip of the stuff pocket out, they get stuck. The zip phone pocket is useless for a phone, as when you drink from the bottle on that side it just shoves the phone under your chin. All the reflective logos on mine have come off and the vest needed hand stitching for repair after the first two weeks. (been fine since). Good points: There is no gripper on mine but nothing has fallen out and I've done several ultras with a wind jacket stuffed in the 'kangaroo pouch' and it didn't come out, even after tumbling! I got the vest at half price, which at the time was £70, no way I would have paid £140 for it though.
@@Run4Adventure I got it from the (very much missed) Deka shop in Frome. It looked like it could be saved, so I figured some stitching could be the quickest fix. If it had happened twice I would've been on the phone. I'm considering a larger pack for SDW100 and was thinking of the Salomon 12 (as I have the pole quiver) but it's hard to look past the Harrier 10, especially for the money!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I'd always go for the Adv 12 Set because it's so much more versatile. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply. Im just starting to explore long trail hiking and I can imagine I will need plenty of water so yea glad to hear your advice =)
You're the only one I found who seems to have tried most of their vests, and I hope you could help me out! I'm wanna buy at least one (or maybe two) vest from Solomon. Which ones would you choose between *Adv* *Skin* *5* or *12* and *Sense* *Pro* *5* or *10* ? I'd like to have a "long-run/hiking" bag so I was thinking *Adv* *Skin* *12* (and that one seems to be your favorite, so hopefully you agree). But it would also be nice to have an extra vest which is really lightweight for a daily morning run, and that leaves me with the 3 other vests to choose from. Would you go with the ultra-light *Sense* *Pro* *5* as a second vest, just for the contrast of having the "heaviest" to the "lightest"? Or would you go for *Sense* *Pro* *10* because it has more room and there's really not that much of a difference weight wise? Or would you perhaps just go with the *Adv* *Skin* *5* ? Or maybe you'd recommend an entire different combo? Thanks in advance 🙏
I would always go for the Advance 12 set. It's a great running vest and really versatile, you can pretty much use it for everything. If you'd like a second lighter vest then the Sense Pro 5 is a good option 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Thanks Kyle, glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure they would? I haven't tried them in the vest but looking at them they do look a bit to wide and short for the Salomon flask pockets 🤔 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
This is a great review and I love the colour scheme. One thing that I wondered was how this significantly differs from e.g. an Adv Skin 5, apart from the fact that it comes with speed flasks instead of soft flasks plus the extra zippy pocket on one of the front shoulders? At the risk of sounding tight again (as I commented on your inov8 shoe review too on this point), it is quite a jump in price for this version!
I totally agree and you're right it is very similar to the Adv Skin 5. To be far this is the Limited edition version and the standard Sense 5 set is £20 cheaper at £120 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Yet another great review so well edited. Quality bit of kit , not cheap, but you get what you pay for in life .. The soft flasks would cost a good % of the price
Thanks Alan, really gkad you enjoyed the review and the edit 😊 You are so right, you do get what you pay for and the bottles would cost around £35 on there own 👍 As always thanks for supporting the channel Alan 🙏
Thanks for this review! I've got the ADV Skin 12 and really like it, but the new Sense 5 looks nice too. Would love to use the 5 for my 50Ks this summer, and that black and red looks so cool!
No problem Chad 😊 It's a great looking ack that's for sure! The Advance 12 set is a great pack, I love mine but the Sense 5 set is really nice to run in. A great pack for 50k distance 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment appreciated 🙏
Another great video Loyd. Thank you! I always struggle to get all my emergency kit into a waterproof bag so would be interested to watch a normal speed video of your packing technique and what litre rolltop bag you use. I have the ADV5L & bought some speedflasks, the only issue I have is that they knock my boney ribs so have to be careful on positioning. Other than that though.... great. Cheers and thanks for a great channel!
Thanks Paul, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍 I'll see what I can do about the packing video. A lot of it comes down to the kit you carry, I tend to go for the slightly lighter more stripped back options so it doesn't take up as much room 😊 I've heard a couple of people say the same about the Speed flasks. I suppose it depends on your body shape and where the bottles sit? Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as always 🙏
Great review as always 👍, loving the two tone colours. Looks a great summer pack, I am definitely one of those runners that's take a lot of kit on a run so this could help me only take the "must haves". Didn't know about those bottles so going to get those for my 12l pack, great idea. The standard bottles are a pain when you want to put the bottles back in the vest after a aid station.
Thanks Alan, I'm glad you enjoyed the review. The pack looks great doesn't it! It would definitely work well in the warmer months and your right it would make you pack more wisely. How many times have you finished a race and not used most of the kit you've been carrying around for the whole distance? 🤔 I did it for years until I realised, more weight, more effort! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
Great review thanks. Looks a quality piece of kit. I’ve used the Inov8 Race Ultra 5 for the last 2 years and it’s been great. Think that was £130 at the time so £140 doesn’t seem too steep to me.
Wow, Editing is Very Nice! Awesome video! Quick Question: I saw you running downhill in your intro, and I was wondering how do you deal with knee pain after excessive downhill running? And what would you suggest to lessen the pain when running, but still have speed?
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed the video. Firstly I'd go and see someone, a good physio to get your knees checked out if they always hurt when you are running down hill! It really can be a number of things, running form, lack of strength, damaged knees, tight quads, the list goes on! Definitely go and have an assessment from a good sports physio, it will really help 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
Great video, thanks for it. What size do you recommend to 98cm chest? What gears do you wear in the video? The Columbia vest and the Salomon top during your outside run? They look nice as well
If you're a 98cm chest I'd go for a Med Salomon vest 👍 The Columbia vest is a UTMB finishers vest and top I was running in outside was a Long sleeve tech tee from SAYSKY 😊 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏
I personally prefer the ADV SKIN 12 or 5 set. The ADV SKIN vest has a bit more structure and that seems to give it a more precise, secure fit 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
It's just a 3L dry bag Alessandro 👍 Lots of companies make them in lots of different volumes. I'd personally go for a 3L one because it works well with a running vest. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
They are very similar in design and if I'm honest the Adv 5 set is more affordable so I'd probably go for that. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Thanks 👍 Really glad you enjoyed the review and the views of sunny Cornwall! It's a great place to live and run, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Great vid as always Lloyd. Quick question on sizing, how did this come up against your sizing? I have the Adv Skin 3 (think I’ve seen you wearing one of them) in size M/L but seen a few comments that the Sense Pro 5 are really small vs. their sizing (they’ve also moved to a straight S/M/L sizing instead of the old S/M, M/L etc which makes it quite confusing!).
Well spotted Oli, yes I have got a Adv Skin 3 pack 👍 The sizing has changed and I think it's a lots better now there's individual sizing. I think it's a lot easier to find the right size now and before you could be in between sizing. I'm a medium in the Adv Skin 3 and the Sense Pro 5 and they seem to fit very similar 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Hi Loyd thanks for this review, I’m gonna get one of these once I can run 100 miles though for now just using a 250 ml Salomon soft flask instead to do my 5K trail LoL
Thanks for the great review! Looking to buy a new vest now and I am super torn between the sense pro 10 and the adv skin 12. I rarely use a bladder but might be good to have the option to do so. Which one would you recommend between the two?
I would definitely go for the Advance 12 set. Its a bit more affordable and I personally think a lot more versatile. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏😊
Thanks Jim that's very kind 😊 Really glad you enjoyed the video and you found it helpful. Thanks also for the Sub and welcome to the Run4Adventure family 🙏😊
Hi Lloyd. I really dig the little extra character you put into your reviews (i.e., the fake pause). I was just wondering, do you know where to find information on how to move the clips up and down? I feel like an ape trying to unhook any of them and I cannot find any info how. I think one of Salomon's flaws is that they out put a great kit with loops and pockets everywhere but they do not include instructions on how to really maximize them. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks Brandon that's very kind and I'm glad you're enjoying the channel! I totally agree with you. Salomon put all these features on their vests and packs but don't tell anyone about how to use them! 😔 I'm the same as you, I know they can be moved up and down but I've never seen anything showing you how to do it?? I'll look into it 👍 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Hi Loyd, thank you so much for another great review! I'm thinking pretty long time about something for hydration especially in warmer days. So thinking about some vest to carry primarily bottles with drink + some gels or other nutrition and maybe some gear like light packable windstopper shirt/jacket. This new Salomon vest looks great, because seems very breathable, which is one of the most important features I'm looking for as need vest primarily or mostly for warmer days. And which size of Salomon vest would you recommend to me with chest size 34.5"? as I'm on the edge between XS and S :) All the Best, Peter from Slovakia.
No worries Peter, thanks for watching 😊 As far as sizing I'd go for the small. Once you've got kit inside the vest it will size a bit smaller 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for your continued support 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Hey Loyd, thanks a lot for advice. That makes sense :). Btw, I'm just about to pick up black hoodie, arrived to my local post office a few days ago, but there is so long queue now at these COVID times at the post office and I didn't want to stand in the queue for more than half an hour, but this week will try to find the best time when there is the least crowded :) But looking forward to picking it up. :) all the Best! Peter
Nice video! Looks like a great pack. Here in Canada most races require we carry Bear spray and when I go on the trails I always carry it. Do you think a canister would fit in one of the front water pockets? 🇨🇦
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it 👍 Luckily living and running in the Uk I'm not sure how I'm meant to answer this question? One I have no idea what a can of bear spray looks like and two I have no idea how big a can of bear spray is? 🤔😂 Sorry I can't be more helpful! I'm not sure I could relax on a trail run with all those bears around, how do you do it and have you ever come face to face with a bear while out on the trails? 🐻🏃♂️😬
@@Run4Adventure Ha, sorry should not have assumed you would know what a canister of Bear spray would look like. I searched it out and found my answer to be yes. A Bear spray canister is similar to a canister of hair spray, maybe slightly smaller. Bears are for the most part safe unless you startle them (running down trails can do that) or if they have cubs. Mother Bear the worst thing in the world to anger. Bear spray will "help" but is not a guarantee. Many people wear bells or make certain they are always making noise so you do not surprise them. Not a lot of attacks because we have a "Bear Aware" program taught in schools and available to the public. Any experienced hiker/runner will be prepared. My only encounter was when I had one run directly across the trail in front of me snarling and snapping his jaws but luckily it kept on going!
Hey Loyd, thanks for yet another excellent review, I know I have asked you about sizing when u reviewed the Adv skin series, you recommended L for me on that one, will it be the same for this since it’s “stretchy” ?
Thanks Ryan 👍 If you're a Lrg in the Advance 12 set then you'd be a Lrg in the Sense Pro. If anything it sizes up slightly smaller but I'd still go for the large. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure was planning a hiking trip there back in 2019 actually, but that was before the whole Covid situation hit. Can't wait to head of there once everything is for the better (hopefully soon)... hang in there, stay safe and keep on running (ps. sorry i stole your line :p)
Personally I think the Advance 12 set is the best Salomon pack on their line up Bilal. It's a great pack and it's never let me down 👍 Hope this helps, there is a review for the Advance 12 set on the channel if you wanted to check it out. Thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Fantastic review, exactly what I was looking for (thumbs up + 1 follower :) ) . I was asking myself which one I should choose between the adv skin 5 and this sense pro 5, I think this new version seems a bit improved, what are your thoughts on this ? And I read lots of comments about that piece of plastic at the bottom of the new soft flasks, hurting rib cage, is it something you experienced? Thanks for your insights!
Awesome, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍 They are both really good lightweight packs and I think you'd be happy with either. I have heard about the bottle thing before and to be honest I prefer the standard bottles. The Speed flasks are very easy to push down into the packets bit I find the standard bottles more comfortable when running distance. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@Run4Adventure many thanks, yes it helps a lot !! Those flask "issues" + the small opening of some compartments + the price convinced me to go towards the adv skin 5 to begin (its gonna be my first hydratation vest) . Thanks for you great videos and greetings from Belgium !
To be honest I'm not really a fan of running tops with pockets on them Simon. I've tried them before and they've never really worked. That type of system works great on a bike where you are sitting still but I don't think it crosses over that well to a sport where you are bouncing up and down 😂 I personally think a good running belt like Compressport free belt dies a much better job 👍 Obviously I haven't trued the Harrier top out so maybe it works OK? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
Salomon certainly do make great running vests, however I think it's a bit cheeky to charge an extra £20 just for a "limited edition" colour. Looks like you had some nice blue skies to test it in, bit different to the rain and 40mph gusts of wind on the 18 miler I've just got back from. 🌬️🌧️ Keep the top videos coming. 🙌
I know it's a bit cheeky but I'm sure people but into it 😊 It was a bit blowy at times but pretty good really. Long runs like that build character Stuart 😉 Thanks for watching mate 🙏
Great review! Agreed on that they've should have kept the stretchy front pockets as open as on the AdvSkinPro's...imho the best feature of these vests.
Yeah I'm not sure why they've changed that!?🤔 Really glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
Great review, will be purchasing one ☝️ The one I have is a el cheapo and plenty of “Shuka shuka” which is annoying whilst running. Time for a proper vest 👍
Thanks Stephen, glad you found it helpful. I'd also recommend checking out our reviews on the Advance 12 set and the Active 8 set from Salomon 👍 Thanks for watching 🙏
I do like a salomon vest, I still.have plenty of life in my advance skin 8 for the time being, but I'm always up for a back up to go with all the other back ups I've got 😉
@@Run4Adventure not exactly fit at the mo because of a knackered back but I'll be back slowly at some point this week. Great review pal, when's the shop back open mate I need some Colombian energy blocks 😉
Thanks very much that's really appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
I always thought that the emergency whistles, in the Salomon packs were useless, as I could barely hear any sound from them when blown... I said to my wife this whistle is useless and blew it twice hard. Apparently, it is really high frequency and I just can't hear it that well. She said it was that loud that she felt ill.
You're right Marty the whistles are high pitched but I still wouldn't want to be relying on it if my life was in danger! They are pretty rubbish 😂 Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Are you aware of any differences between this and the sense pro 5 set other than the colour? They seem the same but hard to know without ordering. Thanks
They definitely make great packs. I've heard this a few times but I've never really noticed? I always keep my bottles in the freezer, I don't know if this helps? 🤔 Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Oh ok Shane 👍 I was a medium in the S-Lab 8 set and I'm a medium in the sense pro 5 set and the fit is really good? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I know what you mean Rich 😂 I've just shown Liga how the show ended, I'd forgotten how funny it was! Thanks for supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
I have the adv 12, I like the versatility and the fact it works fully loaded or with just few things inside. But my only concern is about breathability, it is not really good and I often end up with my back full of sweat... Does this s/lab is better about this ?
The 12 set is a brilliant running vest Doudou that's for sure 👌 The Sense Pro 5 set is a lot lighter and might be slightly more breathable. It's hard because when ever you put a pack on your back you are always going to loose a bit of breathability, it can't be helped 🤔
@@Run4Adventure Definitely but I find it very pronounced with the adv 12 ! And as it's my first trail vest I didn't know if it was because of the plasticky compartment inside and if the sense would be a good upgrade in this regard and if it would be worth buying it (I would still keep my adv 12 for when I need more volume)
@@doudoukong9274 I think it would definitely give you that lighter, more airy feel but you'll still be putting something on your back which is always going to make you feel warmer 👍
Completely nothing to do with the pack here...Curious about the blue bag you used, what is it exactly? I'm constantly filling multiple zip-lock bags but that seems a lot handier!
It was just a 3ltr dry bag! Literally stuff everything in and push the air out. Roll down the top, clip it up and job done 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏
Lloyd / anyone in the comments - is this more breathable than the adv skin 5? The section that separates the bladder from the main compartment makes me sweat horrifically. Cheers!
I’d say it is a bit more breathable because it’s constructed out of a lighter, thinner fabric. However I think the Adv vests fit better because they’ve got a bit more structure. You’ll always sweat more when you’re running with a hydration vest on unfortunately 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Great video! Definitely interested further down my ultra career... thanks for that whistle blast in the earphones ;) haha Does anyone have experience with Ultraspire waistpacks?? I’m looking at the speedgoats 3.0. Thanks for any advice!
Thanks Christopher, really gkad you enjoyed the video 👍 I haven't ever used the Ultra spire waist pack but I've run 1000's of miles in the Speedgoat 3's and it's a great shoe! Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
how do you use the hoops to attach poles directly to the vest? I tried this and it bounces all over the place which is why I think this is one of their most poorly designed packs if that truly is the case. I might just be doing it wrong but also curious why no mention of this at all in the video. the vest should have come with 5 ties to use with poles or at least mine did.
Hi Chin Yes I did get the five ties with the pack but if I'm honest I forgot to mention them, sorry 😬 I'm also not convinced they'll work particularly well on such a lightweight running pack. You'll always have a degree of movement when you attach poles to your pack it can't be avoided. That's why I think the quiver works better, it can be a bit tricky to get your poles out while on the move but it does cut down on bounce and movement! The pole carrying systems always work better when you pack is full of kit, have you tried this 👍
yea... I've since had an official reply from salomon stating that the pack is designed not to carry poles unless you have the quiver. signals to me a half baked product. they'll probably address this in an updated model as the intention was there but the execution is... amateur.
@@chinyong8166 I think you're right Chin it does looks like a bit of an after thought! I think it would work on some of the more substantial running packs 👍
Hi Beth I had no issues at all with chaffing with short sleeves, I haven't run it with a tank top unfortunately so I wouldn't know? 🤔 If I'm honest I've never had any chaffing issues from any of my Salomon packs, even when I've used them in 100 milers 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
I just push the pastic toggle on the quivers bungee through one of the loops at the bottom of the vest and the slide the toggle up to where I need it 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
So I own this running pack but other than the great fit, I've found both my ribs to become sore/bruised when doing my longer runs, the first being a 16miler and the second my virtual marathon by the time I hit 13miles. It was so bad that it affected my performance towards the end. I initially put it down to the solid base on the newer flasks so I swapped these out with the older styles from Salomon but the same happened with these when running the marathon. Anyone else experienced this? And if so, what is actually causing this? Wish I could continue wearing this but I can't if I keep ending up with bruised ribs that take over a week to recover from.
I have heard of this happen with the Speed flasks with the harder bases. It depends where the bottles sit on your rib cage? 👍 I'm not sure why it's still doing it if you're now using softer bottles! 🤔 Sorry I can't be more helpful but the problem has always been caused by the harder bottles in the passed. Thanks for watching the channel and I hope you sort it out 😊
It can be tricky if you're going out on a long training run but I really don't get on with bladders. I just carry a spare soft flask in the back of my pack so I can carry 1.5ltrs James. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply and that is a really good idea!! I'll have to give it a try because the weight of a bouncing bladder does get annoying.
Really good review. Looks like a nice pack but way too expensive. I use the Harrier Curbar which is the same capacity very comfortable and a third of the price. Keep up the good work.
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the review. I totally agree the Harrier Curbar is a great pack and awesome value! 👌 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
It’s a pity the sizing only goes down to 33 inches, I know they do women’s packs too but not for the s-lab range and xs is still too big for a lot of people!
Wow Emily, I've always found Salomon packs size up quite small. In store I've had lots of runners that would love to run in a Salomon pack but they just can't fit in them because the sizing is to small 👍 Have you tried one on?
According to the size chart on salomon.com this one is cut a little bit smaller then the sense set. It was 33 inch for the sense ultra set and now goes down to 30.9 inch
Hi Lloyd, I have an older version of the women’s adv 8 and it’s awesome but any bigger and it would be too loose! Glad they do smaller sizes in the women’s ones - I haven’t had the chance to try on one of their unisex vests in a long time but I am eyeing up one of the 5L s-lab vests, just wary of it not cinching tight enough (well, that and the price!) Great review, liked the testing of how to fit mandatory kit in!
I think it depends on your body shape Kelvin and where the bottles sit as far as your rib cage? I've heard a few other people mention the same thing about the Speed flasks. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏

Thanks Robert 👍
I'm glad to hear you're getting on with your Active 8 set. It's a great pack for the money and I think you're right, one of the best out there 😊
I think the guys at Harrier are working on the US so hopefully they will deliver there soon 🇺🇲
Thanks for watching 🙏
Peace!
Thanks that's really appreciated 👍
There's always going to be pros and cons when it comes to any running vest or pack. Obviously Salomon make lots of different models and some are definitely better than others. I would say the Salomon Sense 5 set is definitely a vest and not a pack! It's only 151g in weight and its literally like a piece of clothing 😊
I agree it is more difficult to get the bottles back in if you have a lot of stuff in the front pockets, I'm not sure I've lost much time at check points because of it though 🤔
I'm glad to hear you've found a vest that works for you and that's what running is all about. Trying different things out until you find the things that work for you. Whether its, running shoes, nutrition or running packs it's all so personal 👍
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure 🌹🌹🌹👍🏾👍🏾
That's great to hear your pack has lasted so well 👌
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great review as always. I bought the active skin 8 after seeing your review and I'm really pleased with it. I recently did a virtual half marathon with it and will be doing the virtual London marathon with it too. I do like the look of the speed flasks but I also like having the option of a bladder because I sweat a lot so I need extra water.
Really glad the pack is working well but I totally understand, hydration is so personal and some runners just need to carry more fluid 👍

Top review, very informative and well explained. I'm after a new Salomon running vest and this might be my pick. Not sure about the extra money for the LE although the colors definitely rock!

Great video Lloyd, got the active skin 8 based on your last review and love it. Looks another good pack.
Thanks Adam that's appreciated 👍
The Active 8 set is a great pack for the price, I'm glad you're enjoying it and thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks for the review Loyd. I like the 2way colour on the front. I can see that being useful for remembering which side you store specific kit - especially when the brain fog sets in 😀

Thanks Loyd, always pick up useful little tips. I’d been looping my cord over the nozzle instead of the main top....losing the bottle as it slid down as I drank!
Daft I know, but I saw you secure the bottle correctly and thought ahhhh, that’s how it’s done🙂
Many thanks again
No worries George 👍
Really glad you enjoyed the review and it was helpful when it came to your bottles. Thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Awesome pack by the looks of it. I bought the adv skin 12 thanks to your previous review, has been amazing. This looks an ideal size for racing. Another military precision review here that helps us so much. Cheers Loyd
Thanks Richard that's really appreciated 👍
The Advance 12 set is an awesome pack that's for sure but you're right the Sense 5 set is perfect for racing.
No worries Benedict, thanks for watching 👍
Yeah some times you have to play around with the fastenings to get it set up right for you as everyone's body shape is different. That's why it's great that the pack allows you to do that 😊
Really glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
That's a shame you've had a few issues with your pack 😔
Did you get in touch with Salomon or the shop you bought it from?
Thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure I got it from the (very much missed) Deka shop in Frome. It looked like it could be saved, so I figured some stitching could be the quickest fix. If it had happened twice I would've been on the phone.
I'm considering a larger pack for SDW100 and was thinking of the Salomon 12 (as I have the pole quiver) but it's hard to look past the Harrier 10, especially for the money!
Like your videos!
And what should we consider if we are choosing between the adv skin 12 and the adv skin 5?
The adv skin 12 can do everything better?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. I'd always go for the Adv 12 Set because it's so much more versatile. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply. Im just starting to explore long trail hiking and I can imagine I will need plenty of water so yea
glad to hear your advice =)
If you'd like a second lighter vest then the Sense Pro 5 is a good option 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Great Video!! I was wondering if the Nathan insulated hydration bottle will fit in the Salomon Vest? Thank you
Thanks Kyle, glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure they would? I haven't tried them in the vest but looking at them they do look a bit to wide and short for the Salomon flask pockets 🤔
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
This is a great review and I love the colour scheme. One thing that I wondered was how this significantly differs from e.g. an Adv Skin 5, apart from the fact that it comes with speed flasks instead of soft flasks plus the extra zippy pocket on one of the front shoulders? At the risk of sounding tight again (as I commented on your inov8 shoe review too on this point), it is quite a jump in price for this version!
I totally agree and you're right it is very similar to the Adv Skin 5. To be far this is the Limited edition version and the standard Sense 5 set is £20 cheaper at £120 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Yet another great review so well edited. Quality bit of kit , not cheap, but you get what you pay for in life .. The soft flasks would cost a good % of the price
Thanks Alan, really gkad you enjoyed the review and the edit 😊
You are so right, you do get what you pay for and the bottles would cost around £35 on there own 👍
As always thanks for supporting the channel Alan 🙏
Thanks for this review! I've got the ADV Skin 12 and really like it, but the new Sense 5 looks nice too. Would love to use the 5 for my 50Ks this summer, and that black and red looks so cool!

It's a great looking ack that's for sure! The Advance 12 set is a great pack, I love mine but the Sense 5 set is really nice to run in. A great pack for 50k distance 👍

@@Run4Adventure I sent you a DM on IG. Would love to hear back from you if possible. No worries either way. Love your channel! Keep up the greatness!
Thanks Paul, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍
I'll see what I can do about the packing video. A lot of it comes down to the kit you carry, I tend to go for the slightly lighter more stripped back options so it doesn't take up as much room 😊
I've heard a couple of people say the same about the Speed flasks.
I did it for years until I realised, more weight, more effort!
Thanks Mike really appreciated 👍
Wow, Editing is Very Nice! Awesome video!
Quick Question: I saw you running downhill in your intro, and I was wondering how do you deal with knee pain after excessive downhill running? And what would you suggest to lessen the pain when running, but still have speed?
That would be down to your footwear or how you do them up etc buddy
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed the video. Firstly I'd go and see someone, a good physio to get your knees checked out if they always hurt when you are running down hill! It really can be a number of things, running form, lack of strength, damaged knees, tight quads, the list goes on! Definitely go and have an assessment from a good sports physio, it will really help 👍

Great video, thanks for it. What size do you recommend to 98cm chest?
What gears do you wear in the video? The Columbia vest and the Salomon top during your outside run? They look nice as well
If you're a 98cm chest I'd go for a Med Salomon vest 👍
The Columbia vest is a UTMB finishers vest and top I was running in outside was a Long sleeve tech tee from SAYSKY 😊
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏
thanks for the great video! how do you compare this with Salomon ADV SKIN 5 SET?
I personally prefer the ADV SKIN 12 or 5 set. The ADV SKIN vest has a bit more structure and that seems to give it a more precise, secure fit 👍

Great review! Where can I find that blue airtight container you loaded in your back pocket?
It's just a 3L dry bag Alessandro 👍
Lots of companies make them in lots of different volumes. I'd personally go for a 3L one because it works well with a running vest. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks, great video. Just one question. How does it compare to the adv skin 5? Which one would you go for out the two? They look similar
They are very similar in design and if I'm honest the Adv 5 set is more affordable so I'd probably go for that. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

Really glad you enjoyed the review and the views of sunny Cornwall!
Well spotted Oli, yes I have got a Adv Skin 3 pack 👍
The sizing has changed and I think it's a lots better now there's individual sizing. I think it's a lot easier to find the right size now and before you could be in between sizing. I'm a medium in the Adv Skin 3 and the Sense Pro 5 and they seem to fit very similar 🤔

Thanks for the great review! Looking to buy a new vest now and I am super torn between the sense pro 10 and the adv skin 12. I rarely use a bladder but might be good to have the option to do so. Which one would you recommend between the two?

And which size of Salomon vest would you recommend to me with chest size 34.5"? as I'm on the edge between XS and S :) All the Best, Peter from Slovakia.

Nice video! Looks like a great pack. Here in Canada most races require we carry Bear spray and when I go on the trails I always carry it. Do you think a canister would fit in one of the front water pockets? 🇨🇦
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it 👍
Luckily living and running in the Uk I'm not sure how I'm meant to answer this question? One I have no idea what a can of bear spray looks like and two I have no idea how big a can of bear spray is? 🤔😂
Sorry I can't be more helpful!
Thanks Ryan 👍
If you're a Lrg in the Advance 12 set then you'd be a Lrg in the Sense Pro. If anything it sizes up slightly smaller but I'd still go for the large. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏

Fantastic review, exactly what I was looking for (thumbs up + 1 follower :) ) . And I read lots of comments about that piece of plastic at the bottom of the new soft flasks, hurting rib cage, is it something you experienced? Thanks for your insights!
Awesome, really glad you enjoyed the review 👍
They are both really good lightweight packs and I think you'd be happy with either.
Hay Lloyd any chance of a review of the Harrier Thorpe Ultra-Tee a running tshirt with pockets! Could be a game changer
Only just seen these tshirts just after I bought my harrier curbar the other day, definitely interesting!
To be honest I'm not really a fan of running tops with pockets on them Simon. I've tried them before and they've never really worked. That type of system works great on a bike where you are sitting still but I don't think it crosses over that well to a sport where you are bouncing up and down 😂
I personally think a good running belt like Compressport free belt dies a much better job 👍
Obviously I haven't trued the Harrier top out so maybe it works OK?

Salomon certainly do make great running vests, however I think it's a bit cheeky to charge an extra £20 just for a "limited edition" colour.
Looks like you had some nice blue skies to test it in, bit different to the rain and 40mph gusts of wind on the 18 miler I've just got back from. 🌬️🌧️

They definitely "speed" the process up! 😉 Thanks and will do 😊
Great review, will be purchasing one ☝️ The one I have is a el cheapo and plenty of “Shuka shuka” which is annoying whilst running. Time for a proper vest 👍
Thanks Stephen, glad you found it helpful. I'd also recommend checking out our reviews on the Advance 12 set and the Active 8 set from Salomon 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
I do like a salomon vest, I still.have plenty of life in my advance skin 8 for the time being, but I'm always up for a back up to go with all the other back ups I've got 😉
The Active 8 set is a super solid ack and great value Sean 👍
Hope you're fit and well mate, thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure not exactly fit at the mo because of a knackered back but I'll be back slowly at some point this week. Great review pal, when's the shop back open mate I need some Colombian energy blocks 😉

Sorry to hear that mate 😔
We'll be back open on the 12th April hopefully Sean 🤞
Great review in every way possible
Thanks very much that's really appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
I always thought that the emergency whistles, in the Salomon packs were useless, as I could barely hear any sound from them when blown... I said to my wife this whistle is useless and blew it twice hard. Apparently, it is really high frequency and I just can't hear it that well. She said it was that loud that she felt ill.
You're right Marty the whistles are high pitched but I still wouldn't want to be relying on it if my life was in danger! They are pretty rubbish 😂

Hi, In what way is it different from the standard Pro 5 set? Is it just the colors and reflective details?
Hi there
I believe it is just the two tone colourway and the high Viz 👍
Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Are you aware of any differences between this and the sense pro 5 set other than the colour? They seem the same but hard to know without ordering. Thanks
I'm sure it's only the colourway that's different Liam 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
They do make the best vests. The bottles are the only con as they taste the water even after countless uses.
They definitely make great packs. I've heard this a few times but I've never really noticed? I always keep my bottles in the freezer, I don't know if this helps? 🤔
Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Hi loyd, would like to ask can you show how to stick the custom quiver bag on the sense pro five stably?
Hi Paul,
I do actually show that in the review? If you have a look around 17:40 you'll see. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure yes, but not quite clear for the lower part how to stick it
I found the Size to be running a little small and had to go up a size compared to the slab 5 set. It cut in under the armpits for me.
Oh ok Shane 👍
I was a medium in the S-Lab 8 set and I'm a medium in the sense pro 5 set and the fit is really good?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
8:31 Reminds me of the end credits in Police Squad with Leslie Nielsen lol
I know what you mean Rich 😂
I've just shown Liga how the show ended, I'd forgotten how funny it was! Thanks for supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
I have the adv 12, I like the versatility and the fact it works fully loaded or with just few things inside. But my only concern is about breathability, it is not really good and I often end up with my back full of sweat... Does this s/lab is better about this ?
The 12 set is a brilliant running vest Doudou that's for sure 👌
The Sense Pro 5 set is a lot lighter and might be slightly more breathable.
@@doudoukong9274
I think it would definitely give you that lighter, more airy feel but you'll still be putting something on your back which is always going to make you feel warmer 👍
Completely nothing to do with the pack here...Curious about the blue bag you used, what is it exactly? I'm constantly filling multiple zip-lock bags but that seems a lot handier!
It was just a 3ltr dry bag! Literally stuff everything in and push the air out. Roll down the top, clip it up and job done 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏
is this a replacement for the Salomon S-Lab Sense Ultra 5 Set?
I'm not sure its a replacement but it is a very similar running vest 👍
Thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Lloyd / anyone in the comments - is this more breathable than the adv skin 5? The section that separates the bladder from the main compartment makes me sweat horrifically. Cheers!
I’d say it is a bit more breathable because it’s constructed out of a lighter, thinner fabric. However I think the Adv vests fit better because they’ve got a bit more structure. You’ll always sweat more when you’re running with a hydration vest on unfortunately 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@Run4Adventure cheers mate! Really appreciate that
Top review. Great info. Nice edits....
Cheers James, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 🙏
Great video! Definitely interested further down my ultra career... thanks for that whistle blast in the earphones ;) haha
Does anyone have experience with Ultraspire waistpacks?? I’m looking at the speedgoats 3.0. Thanks for any advice!
Thanks Christopher, really gkad you enjoyed the video 👍
I haven't ever used the Ultra spire waist pack but I've run 1000's of miles in the Speedgoat 3's and it's a great shoe!
Hi Chin
Yes I did get the five ties with the pack but if I'm honest I forgot to mention them, sorry 😬
I'm also not convinced they'll work particularly well on such a lightweight running pack.
I think it would work on some of the more substantial running packs 👍
was there any chaffing if worn with short sleeves or tank top?
Hi Beth
I had no issues at all with chaffing with short sleeves, I haven't run it with a tank top unfortunately so I wouldn't know? 🤔
If I'm honest I've never had any chaffing issues from any of my Salomon packs, even when I've used them in 100 milers 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Hi, just wondering how to tie on the quiver at the bottom of vest?
I just push the pastic toggle on the quivers bungee through one of the loops at the bottom of the vest and the slide the toggle up to where I need it 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
I'm not sure why it's still doing it if you're now using softer bottles! 🤔
Sorry I can't be more helpful but the problem has always been caused by the harder bottles in the passed.
Thanks for watching the channel and I hope you sort it out 😊
GREAT REVIEW. THANKS
Thanks very much, I'm glad you think so 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
I still prefer a bladder, i guess for the simple reason i can carry more fluids during training runs 🤷🏽♂️
It can be tricky if you're going out on a long training run but I really don't get on with bladders. I just carry a spare soft flask in the back of my pack so I can carry 1.5ltrs James.

@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply and that is a really good idea!! I'll have to give it a try because the weight of a bouncing bladder does get annoying.
How about a coupon code?
Really good review. Looks like a nice pack but way too expensive. I use the Harrier Curbar which is the same capacity very comfortable and a third of the price. Keep up the good work.
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the review. I totally agree the Harrier Curbar is a great pack and awesome value! 👌

It’s a pity the sizing only goes down to 33 inches, I know they do women’s packs too but not for the s-lab range and xs is still too big for a lot of people!
Wow Emily, I've always found Salomon packs size up quite small. In store I've had lots of runners that would love to run in a Salomon pack but they just can't fit in them because the sizing is to small 👍
Have you tried one on?

Thanks Emily, glad you enjoyed the running kit challenge 😊
Hope you get a new pack that fits you well! 👍
5:03 Is the side pocket ripped there on the right hand side?
Definitely not! It's just the design of the pocket. It's lower down at one side so it's easier to get into the pocket 👍
@@Run4Adventure Ahh I see.
Thats a really good idea as I struggle to get into the side pocket on the Adv Skin

UK COLUMN NEWS , the truth is out there
Those speed flasks bruised my ribs after long runs. Wearer be warned.
I think it depends on your body shape Kelvin and where the bottles sit as far as your rib cage? I've heard a few other people mention the same thing about the Speed flasks. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
