Remember Tsunade used to lose all the time in gambling, but that was when she had the necklace. This is a bet she made without the necklace (which was bad luck for her) and she won the bet against Jiraiya
Tsunade have bad luck when bet money... But she never lose when life on the line...
It has nothing to do with the necklace. The pun was that when tsunade wins then something really bad is happened or about to happen, like when she won at the slot machine and then orochimaru found her or when she won the first prize of a lottery and then akatsuki made their move. Her winning the bet meant the worst misfortune to her which was jiraiya’s death.

I have always considered Naruto as a brother because I am of the exact generation that grew up with him, so this death felt like losing a father.
Seeing Naruto grow up and growing up with him was special to me.

The saddest death In The Whole series for me, But it was needed for whats coming. Jiraya such an iconic character so is Pain, Pain is Super Sick One of The Best characters in fiction. His Design Is The Best One in The Show.

For me the saddest death was kushina's. Jiraiya's death didnt hit me till we saw naruto react to it. Kushina's on the other hand fking tore my heart into 2, I rewatched a handfull of other youtubers react to it and every fking time i ugly cried at the same 2 parts. which is insane to me cus they are characters who had been dead since day 1.
But deaths arent a competion, naruto just knows how to ruin a persons day

jiraiya's death was honestly a beautiful moment. tragic, but handled with so much care, especially when you realize he was a very important character to the story, he wasn't on screen for a bit of time and died for MC motivation, he wasn't some random that died, he was an actual character.
also him forcing himself back to life because "naruto never gives up, so i cant complain here" was so great. you just cant be mad at his death, it was done with so much respect you just gotta accept it reluctantly.

It falls off right after chunnin exam. It was really great ninja like anime till that moment. Then it became really great mage fighting anime untill pain arc. After that it had its good moments, but it was already too much. Scaling was too much destroyed.
@@IlDuce7111 If you study story of shinobi and ninjutsu, you'll se a lot of things they were meant to perform, especially in front of a crowd, were basically magic tricks, like "summon" animals. People says Naruto don't portrait the ninja good, but actually, Naruto concept of ninja is pretty accurate, of course with that exaggerated manga aspects.

I remember I met this girl and recommended Naruto to me. I watched older anime as a kid and just stopped til after high school. When I got to this part , I’ve never been broken so hard before over anime. Watching it now again after 10 plus years, still breaks me.

I am Japanese. I cried when I saw this episode. I watched it when I was a teenager. I saw the comments and learned that people all over the world were as sad as I was about Jiraiya's death. I am very grateful that you watched this episode. Because Jiraiya discovered Pain's true identity, we were able to take measures against them. Although he did not become Hokage and will not be remembered in history, he is truly a hero.

Thats's why Big 3 are so different to any other shounens and still today there's not a single shounen close to the Big 3 and that is sad. It's amazing what Toriyama started and Oda, Kishimoto and Tite Kubo achieved.

Kishimoto doesn't keep suspense about the deaths, we already know that a certain character is going to die a few episodes before, but that's what makes Naruto so cool, we get attached and suffer even though we know something bad is going to happen, this is another way to kill characters and which works just as well as surprise deaths
Kishimoto's work with symbolism in Naruto was always so goddamn good, how it resonates with the characters AND with the audience.
there's the small things, like the popsicles, but there's also the more obvious Big Concepts like the relationship between Teacher and Student, and how a Teacher's Legacy is defined by the knowledge they were able to impart, the tools they give to their students to carry their wishes for a brighter tomorrow forward. that will always leave this series as a special one to me. and that will always make revisting these episodes leave me curled up on the floor sobbing like I just got stabbed lol
This episode first aired in 2009/2010, I think (my memory is not the same anymore). It was hurtful, difficult to watch and so anguishful when you realized what was going to happen. Nick felt what we all felt back in 2009/2010. But the following episodes are proof of Kishimoto's genius. I relly enjoyed to see this episode again, and to see Nick reactions... There's no price, my friend!

Every time I get teary, When I watched this for the first time I left the show for 8 months, Jiraya was something else to me, a guardian. This always leaves me speechless.
The first 3 lines of the opening perfectly sum up this arc.

The death of Jiraya as maybe my favourite character in Naruto, is the first anime to ever make me shed a tear. Which isn't the easiest thing for me to do, but damn this and the episode where Naruto finds out broke me

This video is proof that the hate that Naruto receives nowadays comes from people who simply hate the work because it is so relevant to the point of being Dragon Ball from the 2000s to this day, They have never seen Naruto and look at it like everything it looks amazing on him. He sees, understands and feels that this story is not just any story.
the tap on the shoulder was brutal, but, tsunade waithing for him on a lake filled with frog croacking in the background is a lot more subtle, she missed him and was in a place that reinded her of him, and maybe she didnt even knew why she was at peace there. this freaking show is a fucking master piece.

35:24 absolutely agree. It's storytelling, it's the OST, it's the VA's delivery, it's the animation...and for us, it's a nostalgia and the want see others experience this journey that we went on. I've watched no less than 10 reactors to Naruto and these moments hit every time.

It respectfully falls off in war arc. Fated Battle of Brothers and Pain's Assault is where Naruto peaked but afterwards it just went downhill for me. Or at least it went really downhill after we learned who Tobi really was which I think was like middle of war arc. But in any case, Jiraiya's death is probably the saddest anime death ever

Before I always thought "man this anime has some real potential. I hope they dont screw it up". But at this point it was solidified. It already was the best show ive ever seen already. it doeant matter what they do now. What was awesome is that there is so much that this show has to do before its over. Jiraiya is a side character. The best side character ever in my opinion but there are some many others that need there time to shine and I can say now that this anime doesnt disappoint. Jiraya's death moment probably was the hardest-hitting and most emotional gut-punch character death to me in Naruto. Absolute emotional cinematic peak masterpiece. Jiraya became one of my favorite characters.
The day i reached the episode where jiraiya dies happened on the same day as when my grandfather passed away so i bawled my eyes out😭

Bro I love it too but tbh, and I'm not criticizing you here because I felt that way too, the War arc is heavily flawed, both in Manga & Anime. Naruto's stongest points are the characters development, the character's philosophies, and how they're converted in the action. To keep the fights going and letting different philosophies collide, the war arc creates opportunities for characters to fight against each other that make 0 sense. The power balancing sucks, there are tons of plotholes, contradictions and a few retcons. I have never seen a show as inconsistent. And yet it's one of my top 3 Anime of all time, because I love These characters and the action so much. But I know that I only love it because of what I personally feel, because I can ignore all these parts that are complete trash for the good parts.
So yeah it's a fantastic show but saying it's doesn't fall off is just wrong
