      @billingmetals just to make extraction of the quartz easier, you could always roast it by setting up a larger fire in the trench. Then after a few hours dousing it in cold water to fracture and make the quartz brittle.

      @@Robert_Shannon That is really a highly effective way of breaking rock, slow but steady. it's been used for thousands of years too. It makes timbering hard though I'd say ;-)
      I have the licence to use explosives but need a whole lot of worksafe and mines department approval first.

I'll mention your website and ebay in it too. I love the specimens you got in this. I can't imagine the amount of fine disseminated gold in the quartz.

    Hi, just found your channel, so will be binge watching fora while. Just a suggestion for when you are chipping out a target like at the beginning of this video. I always have a half worn out painters brush that I use to clean off the seam as I chip at it, to help find the target as soon as it is exposed. Great work and video

      Thanks for the comment and sub mate, hope you enjoy it. That is very good advice! Very helpful, although as all the gold I miss in this one is going though a crusher and being processed so I'm not as careful with recovery as I would be out in the bush.

    i found a lovely piece of granite with gold encrusted on it in the perth cbd. honest! about 40 years ago we had a demolition job stripping everything out of a whole floor of mineral house where the wa department of minerals was based. there were some boxes of rock samples. they went to my place. most of the samples were of the sorts of rock used for gravestones. but there were some other interesting rocks including the piece with gold on it.

      Nice find! Gold in granite is unusual but I know of a few occurrence's in Victoria, may be more over West. Great thing to have in your collection.

      there used to be a massive piece of a granite-type of rock with the same lumps of gold oozing out of it in the state museum in north perth. i used to wonder why dishonourable people never took a hammer and cold chisel into the museum and chip away at it when no-one was watching. my little specimen seems to be the same sort of granite,

      @@billingmetals , i just spent time on the wa museum website and found absolutely nothing on it. it used to be in the courtyard on a plinth. that was over 30 years ago. the website is very short of pictures. idiots. neither could i find that magnificent flying wing shaped meteorite that was on a stand. i gave it a good tap and it rang like a bell. and it was still ringing when i wandered past it about 10 minutes later. i went back to the museum just to see these two exhibits. i havent been there for over 30 years.

      i seem to remember the big rock at the museum was from kal. but dont trust my memory on that.

    Hi mate. Good video, just one piece of advice if you’re not already doing it. SD 2300 will not pick up that fine Gold. I’d crush all what you’re taking out of that nice little reef. Surprising what you can’t see. Lived in my youth use crowbar. Watching you gives me callous,s on my hands . Go for it. Good job.😮

      Thanks heaps for the comment mate, yes it will all be crushed and processed. I've got about three tons of lower grade stacked but I'll be doing a video on the crushing and processing at some point, I need to make a proper shaker table too.
      It's hard work, better than the gym for making rock hard arms though!

      @ I live in a village called Thaxted,it’s a very old settlement,couple of years ago a very nice Roman gold ring was dug up on farmland on the outskirts of the village,there will be stuff from the Bronze Age up but most of it will be under the village! Got a few mates that detect over here,they’ve had some fantastic finds over the years but if you think you did a lot of rubbish over there,I’m told the trash finding is epic here 😆 Just watched one your paddock eluvial vids,bloody interesting mate! 👍

For anyone else reading this, the historic Berringa School, now a hall and op-shop, it's a great building and worth a look if you are in the area.

      First bit is the hardest, I really don't know why but it's really common to hear stories like yours. Once you get that bit it's easier ;-) What detector are you using?

      It would yes, I really should sort the paperwork so I can drill and blast here! I do need a pinpointer, I've never really used one but it would be ideal for this sort of mining/detecting.

    I hope you wash all the dirt you remove from that reef. If you are you should show a video of how you go about it and how you go doing so... get find mate.
    Have you got a Equinox 800 by any chance? They go off on species and live the small bits too! With the 6 inch coil, it's alot easier to pinpoint with.

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes it will all go though an impact crusher and get processed for the fines, I'll do a video on the process at some point ;-) I use a GPX4000 and a SDC2300, they do the trick too and if it's too hard to pinpoint it gets crushed and gold recovered anyhow.

    Would it work if you build a fire in the hole might crack the quartz in the ground.. make it easy to dig

      It would work yes, messy but also one of the oldest techniques for breaking rock! They did that before blasting powder was available in the early days of mining. I'm sure it was used here by a few miners who couldn't afford drills or powder too.

      @billingmetals nah just close proximity looking for weathered areas, alluvial and drill hits from surface. But not sure how to go about it.

      @@klaasic_e8650 If it's fairly shallow cover work out where the reef runs by looking at the old workings then dig a cross cutting trench to bedrock til you hit the reef or reefs and sample from there. Same for detected patches. It's very effective. Don't forget to tell us all about any finds ;-)

    Hey Toby, I saw some Vivianite you were selling on Facebook. I have been to Anglesea at least 5 times in search and have never found any. Did you find yours at low tide past the collapsed cliff section by point Addis? It seems every man and his dog has some vivianite, so I must be doing something wrong. Thanks!

      Hi, it is hard to find outside the mining claim a greedy sod put over what was a popular collecting area. It has to be ultra low tide and you can find it either side of the area under claim sometimes. look it up on geovic to see claim boundary's. Good luck, sometimes you'll get pocketful's, sometimes not a piece.

      @ManfiCat Well done! When you polish them they tend to stay green/blue, it is light that starts the process of darkening I believe, possibly only the green wavelengths of light interestingly! Why it won't do it after being polished I don't know.

      Hi, I use two Minelab detectors, a GPX4000 and a SDC2300, both brilliant on the gold.

      Hi, it is a Minelab SDC2300, tough, sensitive and compact so it's perfect for this sort of detecting.

    Those minelabs seem such a nuisance to me... Always with the irritating whine and hard to isolate the target.... Give me my trusty ol Gold Bug... That's for me!

      I've never used a Gold Bug but I hear they are pretty sensitive? I've used Minelabs since I stopped using a Garret Groundhog rather a long time ago. there are a lot of good detectors on the market these days though.

    Do as you like but ide be using a heavy hammer and chisels. Far less shock on your body. I would do it seated.

      Thanks for the comment, I often do use a hammer and chisels but the tap tap tap method with a crowbar is also highly effective. It depends how I'm feeling when I get down there ;-)
