    Thank you...This helped me greatly! I still get a little bleed through of the mains into the subs and probably visa versa but that might be the case without an actual crossover

    • @dankurydotcom
      @dankurydotcom  2 роки тому

      if you have things set up properly, you should be able to plug headphones into the headphone jack and solo the aux output that you are using for the subs. Understand that without proper processing for the subs (low pass filter) to cut all the highs off, you will still hear full range sound when soling the "sub" aux however, you will at least know exactly what sounds are going to the subs. Are you using powered subs? Also, your statement about bleed through the mains was a little confusing... contact me through my website if you like so I can help you further if need. www.kurysound.com

    Thankyou for this video - really helping. I have a question, though it may just show my lack of understanding on setting up PA's..: If I was to get the chance to ring out a room that I am setting up, would I remove the cutoff filters prior to ringing out? At first I thought yes, but then I thought that doing that might make me attenuate frequencies that will then lose their "oomph" once the filters re-applied? (maybe this question is just applicable to the frequencies around the crossover point).

    • @dankurydotcom
      @dankurydotcom  Рік тому +1

      Hi Andrew, what cutoff frequencies are you talking about? If you are talking about the high pass filter (low cut) that you have on your main speakers, then that frequency should (ideally) match the crossover frequency that the subs take over. I have been doing this for over 50 years and I never "ring out" a room, I set up my system and only if I am having issues do I fix them. If you want to ring out the room, meaning to squeeze out every decibel of sound that you can get, then it is obvious that the fidelity is not important, only maximum volume. The next time you do a job with your system, I highly suggest allowing the main speakers to sound like they can. "Almost" everybody in the world slaps EQ and compression on everything before they even hear if the sound needs it or can "benefit" from it...., but that is the last thing you should do if you have a nice system and nice mics. (not 58's)

      @@dankurydotcom I appreciate your taking the time to reply - thankyou. I had a 3 day sound gig with about 30 acts to set up. I did ring out the room during setup, and I had no feedback issues, and the sound was very high fidelity. I prefer to do it this way, as to my understanding we ring out the room to actally flatten the response of the room - thus enabling true fidelity. A room being an acoustic "shape" that will resonate naturally with certain frequencies. meaning that if those frequencies are generated within the space, along with other frequencies, then the resonant frequencies are going to reinforce themselves and dominate the soundscape? So ringing out the room allows you to compensate for this unequal resonance and enable all frequencies in be present in the levels desired by the musicians / instruments?

    • @dankurydotcom
      @dankurydotcom  Рік тому +2

      @@AndrewDInSydney Hi Andrew, I know all about ringing out a room, unfortunately there is no piece of audio gear invented or plugins or anything that can address or "fix" the frequency problems you are referring to. Lowering a frequency band and setting it's bandwidth on the offending frequency/s does not fix the problem. It masks it to some ears. The problem with the frequencies that you are cutting is only changing the volume of those frequencies relative to other frequencies that are not causing fidelity issues. The problem is the room's reverberation time. It would be nice if we could lower the reverb time of those offending frequencies, but using an EQ to address this is not a fix. It is a bandaid. My recommendation was to essentially leave the EQ on the main system as close to untouched as possible, realizing that yes, certainly sometimes a tweak of EQ on the mains is definitely necessary and makes the system sound nicer. Ringing out monitors is a completely different story as you already know, but squeezing out every decibel of gain you can achieve before feedback in the mains in my opinion is not a good thing to do. Altering too many bands of EQ will make a false sounding system. Good discussion though. :)

    Hi Dan: I use 4 (single 18”) powered subwoofer. Would you daisychain all 4 subs from aux 6 or use aux 5 for 2 subs and aux 6 for the other 2. Thanks

    • @dankurydotcom
      @dankurydotcom  2 роки тому

      Hi, if all the subs are the same brand and model I highly suggest using just one Aux send for all of them. They can be daisy chained (XLR out of each one into the next one). Also,.... every time you set them up, try your best to put them all together, side by side in the center of the stage (not on the stage) instead of two on each side. Doing this will radically improve the balance of the subs so that everyone in the room gets good even bass response instead of just the people in the center of the room. When you have subs on each side of the stage, that arrangement will cause what we call a "power alley", This is where the subs on both sides produce nice bass in the center of the room (dance floor), BUT........ if the listener moves closer to one side or the other, the bass response will deteriorate to the point of being really wimpy. This is because the amount of time it takes for the bass from the subs (over there) causes what is called a phase cancellation because of the time difference. Sometimes we don't have a choice, and we can only put subs on each side,... when that's the case, we just live with it. Dave Rat from Rat sound has some really good videos on youtube about this very thing. I hope that helps :) Always trust your ears.

      Hi Robert, you can swipe up or down to access either parametric or graphic EQ. You need to know about where the "swipe" areas are in order to accomplish this, it is all in the manual in numerous sections. Search the manual for PEQ, or GEQ, or swipe. When you are viewing the graphic EQ (GEQ) the swipe are is the blank area at the top between the two tabs, RTA and 2X. Also, in the settings you can set the "Default Output EQ View" This way, when you open the EQ on an output, it will take you to your preferred EQ.

      here is the wiring for your set up in order to use a separate aux for subs...
      The PRX15S top cabinets do not connect to the PRX18S subs at all.
      DL1608 Main output L connects to your left PRX15S.
      DL1608 Main output R connects to your right PRX15S.
      DL1608 Aux 6 output connects to your closest sub.... assuming you have one sub on each side.
      "Daisy-chain" the two subs with an XLR cable between them.... in other words... go "out" of the first sub, and "into" the input of the other sub.
      Follow the information in the video and your Aux 6 will give audio to the subs.
      and here a link for thanks :) www.paypal.me/kurysound

The PRX18s 2 subs are connected from the Right output of the DL1608 via Daisy Chain and the PRX15s from the Left output on the DL1608 the same way you connect the subs. Is that correct? If I can impose on you can you please send me a diagram. Thank you Leylan.

      @@sleazefunk the manual explains all of the swiping and how you can navigate to different screens. First, there are grey blank areas in many of the screens, some are small and some large, and they're made to swipe left and right while others are made to swipe up and down. Some of these areas are very large,,, you need to learn these "swipe" areas and where they are. These areas are places that you can use your finger to swipe up or down in order to get to different features/screens.
      For instance, in the "Graphic EQ" (GEQ) this grey "swipe" area is between the white (RTA) button, and the white (2X) button. Put you finger on that small grey area and swipe down, .... you will then be taken to the "Parametric EQ" (PEQ), if you swipe up from that same area, you will be taken to the compressor. You need to learn about Mackie's swiping features if you are going to be using this app. Another feature which I am guessing you probably don't know about is in settings. Settings can be viewed by hitting the "gear" icon at the top. This is where you can set various things to act based on your preferences. The very first feature is "Default Output EQ View". This is set to GEQ by default, but you can change it to PEQ, then whenever you click on the EQ tab, you will immediately be taken to the PEQ instead of the graphic.
      People never read the entire manual and they will never understand all the nice features that are right there at your fingertips. You will be missing out on a ton of ways to do things and ways to do things FASTER!
