    Dan, thanks for the sub on my channel. I have a Mackie DL1608... You just helped me so much with understanding how to set up compression on a vocal. I have never really understood how it works. I have watched your videos on Mackie Master Fader for a while now. Great job!

    It's there, you have to be on the output tab across the top then keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling until you find monitor one and monitor to connect the dots to the headphones

    You have very informative posts on the system. We have a 32s at our church and I'm new to sound systems. We seem to really struggle with balance between soloists and piano. There seems to be some weird issue where the piano dominates the soloists when they are together but everything is fine in parts where there are only vocals. For instance, the music starts accopella but then the piano comes in later. The piano basically lowers the gain of the soloists. It's like a big averaging system where now the soloists share the total gain with the piano. I've used the compressor pretty heavily on the piano to modulate this effect with some success but I'm not sure that's the right strategy. I hope that your palm didn't just whack your forehead with my ignorance of sound systems. I'm an engineer, not a sound engineer.

      Such a well thought out post :-) I completely understand what you're talking about and it sounds to me like there is too much compression being used. I would like for you to try this, make sure that there is no compression whatsoever on any vocals, piano and especially no compression on the main sound. Also for this experiment, it would be best to not use any subgroups. Try this and report back with your findings :-)

    Great stuff , man! I’ve got a question : fore some reason my headphones input doesn’t work , I mean I plugged the phones in and turn the gain knob all the way up and nothing for some reason . Maybe I should check the routing or something ? Maybe you know how to fix this issue ? I’m using master fader 4 . Thanks in advance

      In the routing page, monitor one and monitor two needs to be assigned to the headphone jack.

    Thank you so so much for your videos. I’m newly having to do my own sound for gigs.
    In the ideal world I would set up my p.a and we would zoom call so you can personally help me, better still I would invite you to the u.k to engineer 😂
    I’m really enjoying your videos and hopefully I will retain some information.

    Question the vocalist in your church they sing good but sometimes the sound like she sings in a cans i adjust the eq but sometimes its worst and it kinda sounds echoing. What you recommend?

    • @user-jx3jp3gb4x
      @user-jx3jp3gb4x  8 місяців тому

      Hi, your question is confusing and is not clear. I can not tell you why the vocalist sounds bad because I know nothing about your sound system. If it sounds like the vocalist is in a can, it could be excessive EQ and or reverb effect. I wish I could help but can't. What main speakers are you using? Are there stage monitor speakers being used? Are you using terrible microphones? Do other instruments and vocals sound good, if they do, then your problem is with the individual singer and possibly the settings for her mic.

      Hi, this video is about vocal compression not EQ. The high pass filter and low pass filter is up to you. I don't ever suggest using an LPF filter on a vocal but definitely a high pass filter set to around 80 to 100 Hz.

    Hi, I don't use metric because I am in the US and we use imperial, I know I know :-) I don't know how to do that conversion you should do a Google search.

    Where are these videos that are under 5 minutes. This doesn’t need to be so long

      @@drfrog3166 I don’t understand your arrogance. Give me the name of someone who can describe the various settings of a typical compressor, and how they can be set to benefit the sound of a vocalist. And why do you think it can be done in under five minutes??? I do not care to carry on this conversation further.
