- The average price of a brand new car is about $7000 higher than it was three years ago at about $47,000. On top of that, maintenance costs on vehicles have risen 8.2% year over a year meanwhile, car insurance has risen a whopping 22 1/2%. Between all these expenses just to keep your car on the road people cannot afford to buy new cars so they are driving them until the wheels fall off..

@ianmcnamee1652 🤣🤣🤣 if Texas can't even handle AC going on in the summer I think were a long way away from electric cars being more like 1 or 2 percent on the road. Let alone with the unpredictability of humans, we would need a completely separate lane for EVs or self driving ones at least

im a mechanic. I can tell you 100 percent that the cars built in the 90s are far superior and more reliable than cars built in 2020. The quality just isnt there. they cheap out on materials plus there are too many modules and electronics that fail
That's very true. My favorite car from the 90's is the Jeep Cherokee classic. They have a straight 6 that runs forever. If you are lucky to find one with a manual transmission, you can potentially put 300,000 miles on the car without any major problems.
Yeah, with everything being electronic in the newer cars, it'd be scary to wonder which thing is going to fail and how much it's going to cost.
@CarlaQuattlebaum the infotainment screen. Will cost you thousands when it fails. And it is guaranteed to fail at some point. Even worse every function of the whole car is controlled by that touch screen
Would not trade my 99 Jeep for anything. Just put a new engine in at 250,000 mi and hoping for another 250k+.

To my own research In USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.
Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.
I've remained in touch with a financial analyst since the start of my business. Amid today's dynamic market, the key difficulty is pinpointing the right time to buy or sell when dealing with trending stocks - a seemingly simple task but challenging in reality. My portfolio has grown by more than 5 figures within just a year, and i have entrusted my advisor with the task of determining entry and exit points.
this is definitely considerable! think you could suggest any professional/advisors i can get on the phone with? i'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation

@@surfboard396 That's just overpaying all of the time to offset a bad day that might not even happen. The nature of the business means you're not only paying to offset the hypothetical bad day, but also all of the operational costs and profit for running a 3rd party insurance company.
Not sure what you mean, but buying a new car and turning them in 3 years later is the most expensive way to transport yourself around. I have three vehicles all older than 2016 and all paid off for 7 plus years now. No payments. I can't remember the last time one of them left me stranded. If one does, I call the tow truck. For 2-3 thousand, it will be fixed. That is probably 3 or 4 car payments. I have gone 18-24 months with no major repairs. I don't keep up with maintenance either. Use and abuse.
Car prices up. Insurance prices up. Interest up. Wages? FLAT
And wait times to actually buy a new car have also gone up. I was just at Toyota and was told I would need to wait 6-8 months for the Corolla. I'm not putting any money down to get something 8 months later.

My car is now 19 year old. I bought it cash in 2018. Some were laughing at me not buying a new one. Now no one is laughing except me.
In the early 2000s a lot of my friends (like myself) got student loans. I bought beater after beater and put money towards rent/paying off my loan. A lot of them lived with their parents still and bought all new cars. They laughed at my beaters (which remain far more memorable today than their... Altimas? I don't even know) - fast forward 20 years, I still have one of those beaters (I rebuilt it and engine swapped it), live in my own home, still drive frugal cars, and am able to go on vacation 2-3 times a year with my family. I even survived a failed marriage (it was actually a decent breakup), all while the Altima club still drive very nice and late model BMWs and Audis, are single (one got married, no kids) , and live with their parents (the married guy rents).
Funny, huh?
What kind did you get?

I think that'd be less true for a Tesla that drives itself. Definitely the case for all of the legacy ICE vehicles that all kinda suck regardless of the sticker price though.
Some people live in those cars though
I put 12000 dollars into my vehicle about 3 years ago and everyone thought I was crazy... Everything was replaced... Motor, transmission, all the suspension, new wheel bearings, everything is new... I figured it out, 2 years of driving and it paid for itself... 🇺🇸
Agreed.i don't like car payment.i fix my to, replace engine and transmission
Maintenance is key to long life of vehicle. These days that is costly enough.
A friend who always buys old, almost dead cars for a couple/few hundred bucks. Spends another couple hundred in parts, and does his own labor. Drives it 4-5 years, spending maybe a hundred or less per year on maintenance. Bottom line: He drives several years for $1000-1500, (excluding gasoline).
The big big problem for me with such big repairs is trusting the mechanics.
In my part of the world finding a reliable mechanic who is able and willing to do the work and have a successful repair, especially with a gearbox replacement is near impossible.

The "Cash for Clunkers" boondoggle was a massive waste of money, seriously harmed the middle and lower class, and was horrible for the environment because it took a lot of fixable cars, and all their 2nd hand parts, and destroyed them.
Reminds me of the video of the NYC mayor bragging about destroying boatloads of repo'ed motorcycles with a front end loader, ya know...instead of selling them and making money. Look up the video. It enrages me as a motorcycle enthusiast.
Thanks, Obama.
How is it a boondoggle when that was the intent of the government and its captive mega corps? Design, not accident.
It did none of those things, the problem with cash for clunkers was it didn't give enough of a monetary subsidy to purchase a new and more efficient and less polluting car
@@thelastmohicaneagleeye6581 Your understanding is FALSE. 1) It cost taxpayers almost $3 Billion. 2) It removed probably tens of thousands of vehicles that could have instead been repaired, causing a NET LOSS of good reliable affordable vehicles for middle and lower class people. 3) The total carbon emissions reduction was effectively zero, and could be argued to have been counter productive because producing a new vehicle is less eco-friendly than fixing an old lesser efficient one. Even the most fuel efficient cars, are rarely more environmentally friendly than keeping an older working one e.g. even improving MPGs from 15 to 30, requires around 10 years or 100,000 miles to break even because it takes a LOT of energy/oil to manufacture a new car. Consider, many new cars don't last 10 years, so those are all losses.... Anyway, the point is that the lower/middle classes all got hurt by the program, which had little if any positive impact.
The problem is you don't pay a little more for a new car, you pay a lot more for a new car. And there's nothing you can do to a used car that costs as much as buying a new car.
As long as the used car isn't an EV, that is.

Easy to repair and insure.

We get our car fixed at the auto repair class at the high school on the campus where my husband works. Or hubs fixes it himself.
Ford's small block Windsor's and 300, hands down best motors ever.

No one needs a new car. I'm 71, and have only bought one new vehicle, a 1982 Econoline van. In 2007, while driving across the 7 mile bridge my front axle spindle snapped and I lost a wheel. Since my Ford warranty had expired, once I scraped to a stop, I realized that I would need a replacement vehicle. Only one wheel came off, but I can honestly say that I drove the wheel off my Ford.
Here is a tip: Conchs, cops, and especially conch cops don't appreciate you parking on the 7 mile bridge and blocking both lanes in a 3 wheeled van. Who knew? They have strange parking rules in Monroe county.
Like Anita Bryant used to sing, "Be a friendly Floridian, put on a sunshine smile". I didn't see anyone smiling that day, not even the cops that eventually showed up and wrote me a ticket for Hazardous Parking.
