you'd be surprised what you can do with 4 tracks and improvisation. that's why i bought it. remember there are 16 clips per track giving a lot more flexibility than you take face value. i pulled the trigger and can't wait to get it
Yes, you can freely choose wether you want the tracks to be tones, drums or loop tracks. You can mix the types any way you want or have all tracks do one thing like tones etc.
I will use stuff like that when I’m done with my setup. It’s still changing, I keep having to move stuff around when making videos. Lack of space, so I’ll have to build vertically. And then I’ll break out a ton of Velcro! 👍🏼
Not so certain you can. I’ve only had the 101 about a week, but haven’t found any option for setting samples as one shots or a way to modify a single drum sample’s envelope. Not even an easy way to edit note length in the drum sequencer. The only way I’ve found is to live record and hold the pad down long enough so that the entire sample plays. I would love to be wrong, though.
@@mochiboy420 i think you hold down the pad of the drum sound you want to change and then from the menu you can select a new sound or sample, i haven't got mine yet but i'm certain you can change the sounds of the kit
Yes, I’m aware how to do that. I’m talking about when you import your own samples to be used on a drum track... there is no option to sequence them as “one shots” and longer samples (like crash cymbals) get cut off when you sequence them grid style with no easy way to edit note length (that I’ve found) in a drum sequence. The only work around I’ve found is live step recording the longer imported sounds.
@@mochiboy420 dude, rtfm :) ... Changing the Pad’s Sound (Instrument) (INST SELECT) 1. Press the TRACK SEL [1]-[4] button of the DRUM track whose instrument you want to change. 2. Press the PAD [NOTE] button. 3. Hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the pad that you want to edit. The DRUM INSTRUMENT browser appears. In the DRUM INSTRUMENT browser, instruments or sample files can be loaded into a kit. 5 PRESET: Load an instrument or kit from the MC-101’s presets 5 PROJECT: Load an instrument from a project saved on the SD card 5 WAVE FILE: Load a sample file from the SD card
You could format an sd cards as big as 8TB if they made one, as fat32. The only limitation of fat 32 is data over 4096MB (4GB)each file size. But I very much doubt your gonna use a sample that's 4gb in size. Just reformat in pc or mac.
Just got mine yesterday. I don’t have a computer (I’m an iOS user) and the iPad/iPhone is the only way I’ll be able to upload samples...so thanks for this and any future iOS/101 tips
Turns out that there is a way of pre-viewing the sound by triggering samples with the [SOUND] button while scrolling through them. But there’s no way of previewing samples with sequences running. You have to select and load them in order for them to be sequenced.
This seems really expensive for what it is - any idea how much it’s big brother will be? I’m guessing it’ll probably be around 800 or so? Hope to hell not as if these were a bit cheaper so many more would sell. After all it’s Grooveboxs and isn’t the idea of a Groovebox supposed to be easy to use, easy to knock out beats on the fly any also accessible to most who want to get into or are into this thing? I dunno, don’t get me wrong - I’m hardly tight on the purse strings - must have spent around 3,000 alone on gadgets and portable bits n bobs in the last year - not including the synths, Reloop decks and a whole new monitor system. This just seems a little over priced for it to be mainstream.
That no saving individual kits thing is 100% deal-breaker on this MC 101 & 707 series. That single lack of feature has killed my interest in buying one.
Pressing ‘SOUND’ let’s you audition the sample before loading.

Changing the Pad’s Sound (Instrument)
(INST SELECT)
1. Press the TRACK SEL [1]-[4] button of the DRUM track
whose instrument you want to change.
2. Press the PAD [NOTE] button.
3. Hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the pad that you
want to edit.
The DRUM INSTRUMENT browser appears.
In the DRUM INSTRUMENT browser, instruments or sample files can
be loaded into a kit.
5 PRESET: Load an instrument or kit from the MC-101’s presets
5 PROJECT: Load an instrument from a project saved on the SD card
5 WAVE FILE: Load a sample file from the SD card
So does this apply for the 707?
Hi ! Can you sample a hole song ? Like a hole beat from a song to play along with a guitar?
Jacob, you can format exFat cards to be FAT32 cards :) You are not a senior yet, lol.
Nice!
Are you able to export projects as audio and MIDI from the MC101?
They seem to have implemented audio export with the v1.7 firmware update. ua-cam.com/video/YIuziZU2Bv8/v-deo.html (check around 09m 50s).
What’s the spectrum software on the iPad?
It’s all explained here >>> ua-cam.com/video/MVHrp16Z4m0/v-deo.html
He said that you can put each drum part to the send fx individualy, someone knows how?
You could format an sd cards as big as 8TB if they made one, as fat32.
The only limitation of fat 32 is data over 4096MB (4GB)each file size. But I very much doubt your gonna use a sample that's 4gb in size.
Just reformat in pc or mac.
Can I use a 64 gb SD card ..?? ..I put one in .and it says..
No SD card..??
I wonder if this accepts SDcard from SP-404sx?
Just got mine yesterday. I don’t have a computer (I’m an iOS user) and the iPad/iPhone is the only way I’ll be able to upload samples...so thanks for this and any future iOS/101 tips
A lot of drum tracks and so on, but you still only get 4 channels streamed to the computer right?
Cool track! Peace Christo 👽🐕🎶🛸☮️
Thank you! I’m curious though, which of the tracks are you referring to? There’s three in there.
I know this video is old but, do you now know that the audio CAN be streamed from an iPad?!!!
This is the video you’re looking for: ua-cam.com/video/S-EWBsMSTCs/v-deo.html
Poor UI on the MC-101. You did a good job, but... clunky is clunky.
I agree
It is slower than it needs to be, they could improve it.
I agree. It sounds great but jeezus the workflow is really puzzling. Glad it’s just not me.
8:28 needs to be fixed with an update ASAP
Turns out that there is a way of pre-viewing the sound by triggering samples with the [SOUND] button while scrolling through them. But there’s no way of previewing samples with sequences running. You have to select and load them in order for them to be sequenced.
Put in a 64 gb Wal Mart Onn SD card ..and it's says.. No SD card ..??🙃
New cards have to be formatted in the mc-101/707. Look at the top at page 41 static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/MC-101_Reference_eng01_W.pdf
Such young lookin hands :O
999
Android can read card readers for years lol
Say 101 or 404 ( I don’t use computers)
Interesting sounds but layout seems unintuitive and laden with sub-menus.
you are funny
That no saving individual kits thing is 100% deal-breaker on this MC 101 & 707 series. That single lack of feature has killed my interest in buying one.
