We moved out here to west Texas 3 yrs ago and last year l was fortunate enough to find 2 XT500's. First was a 1980 model, looked to be terrible but after a little cleaning of tank and carb, along with 15-20 kicks, it fired up and with some tuning that bike began to show HEART. I mean that bike runs HARD, easy start and pulls hard through all 5 gears. Then a couple months later got my 1978, twin to yours. A bit more work involved, but despite sitting in the open desert for 12+ yrs, pretty nice looking. Keeping it, named PLATA. Spanish for silver. Good vid and thanks for the trip.
Had an XT500 back in the day (before swing arms)....brings back some memories....some hurt.:) Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the comment, if reproduced and put electric start and fuel injection I’d buy one today. The seat is comfortable compared to the 250.
