- In these days I received a wonderful Christmas present by the good people of @YamahaGuitarsOfficial ! This is a Revstar professional “moonlight blue”. I really liked the clean sound on this axe so I recorded a solo transcription I was working on recently. This killer solo is from one of my favorite players Bob Mintzer playing on “Giant Steps” by the legend John Coltrane, hope you enjoy it!

Sur UA-cam, des guitaristes virtuoses, j'en ai vu, j'en ai vu et j'en ai revu des centaines. Il arrive un moment où toute cette technique et ces démonstrations flamboyantes finissaient par me fatiguer, il me manquait le coup de pied au cul, l'effet "wahoo" et la bouche ouverte qui bave. Puis je tombe sur Matteo Mancuso et là, le ciel s'est ouvert et j'ai eu une révélation, j'ai découvert du jamais vu, du nouveau, du renouveau, de l'unique, du stupéfiant. Ce jeune homme a inventé une technique totalement inconnue, rendez-vous compte qu'il est le seul au monde à jouer de cette manière, personne d'autre n'en est actuellement capable. C'est certain qu'ils vont s'en inspirer mais il a 50 ans d'avance. Alors si il doit y avoir un prix de l'innovation musicale à décerner 1 fois par siècle, c'est à lui qu'on doit le remettre. Bravo Génie !

Yes, exactly. Many Giant Steps solos sound like academic exercises, but this one's great. As is e.g. one by Kenny Kirkland here in youtube.

I was wondering when is the next guitar SUPER STAR was going to come along. All my favorite guitar gods are either old or dead. (R.I.P.). I couldn’t be more excited than to finally know Matteo Mancuso can take the mantle of “Guitar god of the decade” if not the century!!!

Sunday I saw him in a live concert in Italy. I am very happy and proud. He's an universal genius and one day in the future I'll say to my actually 4 years old daughter :

It's so wild that he has normal hands. Most of these virtuosos have big meathooks. This guy is the most normal alien I've seen.
I have been watching Matteo's videos for several years because they are a source of inspiration for me. What I find amazing about him is the fact that he manages to memorize all these jazz themes and to reproduce them in his own way at a very high level with unusual improvisational phrases and at a tempo of a rare precision and intensity. Matteo replaces the guitar at a dream level. THANK YOU Matteo

the question is why he isn't asked to show up on albums as a guest, by established or 'bigger' artists. does he do hiw own PR, or does he have an agent? if the latter is true, they need to step up their game.
He seems quite a private kind of guy. Maybe he's just happy doing this. It'll will be interesting to see how his career progresses in the future. Absolutely unique talent.
@@godzoo18 I played for years (not very good!) back in the day and got completely disillusioned. 30 years later, I'm absolutely loving getting back into playing just for my own personal pleasure. That's how I ended up on this video - rediscovering old guitarists and ending up on the new prodigy.

Im always amazed by his finger picking technique. It’s so clean!
Agreed. What i like about it is the eveness he gets from string to string, finger to finger (and thumb). It is sort of classical, but the mastery of dynamic range he has developed for electric guitar puts him in a league of his own.

Just introduced to Matteo's art & wow! Just insane chops. The way he attacks similar to a flamenco player and his control of open strings is just mesmerizing. I'm a big big fan of Yamaha guitars too. Excellent tone(s). It's too bad I don't have the talent to play like him :( I really look forward to seeing him play live one day here in the U.S.A.

OK!! When i watched and listened to this, while randomly starting to think about, how much talent and skills you need to posess and how much work you have to put into learning this solo, i immediately laughed out LOUD!
Every performance by Matteo I have seen has been absolutely breathtaking. He was very fortunate to have a father who taught and mentored him well, exposed him to great music from an early age and helped him retain a realistic and proportional sense of his self in relation to the world. Bravo for your greatness, virtuosity and well deserved recognition for giving those immensely beautiful gifts you give us.
BTW, John Coltrane and all the greats of the Be-Bop era would be happy that such a capable young man carries the torch of Jazz.
Absolutely agree. But talent is not enough without hard work. His father is a great guitarist, but the son goes beyond. Much more beyond. Innovative technique and melodic elegance are both present in MM. Huge musical knowledge and culture. He will be remembered in decades

MM ha deciso di rivoltare come un calzino il mondo della chitarra elettrica. E lo sta facendo.
Chi dice che Matteo è solo tecnica e virtuosismi, o addirittura annoia, scusate, ma di musica non capisce una beneamata min.... Matteo è emozione, è duro lavoro ed esercizio, è musicalità, è commozione, è tutto ciò che si può chiedere ad un musicista! Come autore, vedremo.

@@froblivion8284 I don't try neither, it's really impossible for me. But he is inspiring, 'cause he's emotional, with a incredible musicality and a deep musical culture and knowledge. Every note he play is a poem, absolutely not only technique or speed, sometimes I almost cry.

Nulla togliere a gottardo; mancuso non lo conosco benissimo perchè mi ci sono avvicinato da poco, ma da quello che mi sembra, non ho mai visto un livello più alto tecnicamente, nè come improvvisazione. Mi sembra che sia piu un fiore all'occhiello per la razza umana in generale

@@raulduke85 Come non sposare la tua illuminata opinione? Daniele Gottardo ha un livello tecnico spaventoso, ma non si avvicina nemmeno per sbaglio alle capacità di improvvisazione di Mancuso. Altri pianeti. Ma Matteo Mancuso è inavvicinabile per chiunque, sul pianeta Terra. Non è che Gottardo sia scarso, anzi....solo che lì non ci arriva. Se ascolti il livello del trio con Riccardo Oliva e Gianluca Pellerito, svieni.
@@iperfungus posto comunque che ultimamente i miei gusti musicali mi portano altrove, verso chitarristi comunque di ottimo livello, ma sicuramente in qualche modo piu discutibili.
Personalmente, ormai non suono neanche piu, ma sono cresciuto come molti che suonano, o hanno suonato, della mia generazione, von i vari gambale, howe, henderson e compagnia bella; tuttavia quello che mi colpisce maggiormente, o che ricerco per così dire, è un approccio nuovo, diverso rispetto allo strumento ed alla musica in generale; cosa che ritrovo piu che altro nel math rock e in musicisti come i poliphia, nito e qualche chitarrista giapponese.
So che non ci avviciniamo al livello di Mancuso, però, se posso dire la mia in termini di gusto personale, per quanto perfetto, pulito e brillante l'approccio di mancuso è il classico fusion, che adoro, ma che ormai ascolto da 30 anni; trovo molto interessante invece l'approccio di tim henson rispetto alla composizione ed alla musica, perchè mi dà la sensazione di una ventata di aria fresca, di qualcosa che non puoi ascoltare altrove, che puo piacere, o meno chiaramente, ma sicuramente compone in modo molto interessante per me.
Detto questo riconfermo quanto detto prima su Mancuso e spero di ascoltarlo in futuro anche in qualcosa di piu inusuale della classica fusion, che è un genere molto interessante, ma ormai consolidato; mi piacerebbe ascoltarlo un po' piu sperimentale: uno così ha tutte le carte in regola per inventare un nuovo genere proprio per il talento e le caratteristiche tecniche che ha.
Nel complesso, siamo di fronte a un nuovo mozart, un talento, che non si ripresenta neanche in un paio di generazioni a volte, e mi aspetto molto, spero in molto
@@raulduke85 nel complesso comprendo perfettamente il tuo discorso e lo apprezzo , ma personalmente devo dire che MM mi spacca in due, mi emoziona e commuove, mi fa saltare sulla sedia come quasi nessun altro riesce.
Anch'io ascolto e apprezzo di più altri generi rispetto alla fusion, art rock e math rock tra questi.
Ma ho ascoltato i poliphia, e non mi dicono nulla. Né tecnicamente né, soprattutto, musicalmente. Gusti personali, ovvio. Li trovo scontati, e la loro musica un vuoto esercizio di tecnica. Aspetto MM alla prova come autore di musica originale, ma devo dire che secondo me il suo contributo attuale alla musica mondiale è già assai significativo. Aver inventato una nuova tecnica sullo strumento più suonato al mondo, ti sembra poco, ad esempio?

Negli anni ho ascoltato un po' di tutto... ma non ho mai sentito nessuno suonare come te e questo l'ho realizzato prima di sentire e leggere i commenti e i complimenti di chitarristi di fama internazionali. Non solo sei un talento come pochi altri, ma a me comunichi sentimenti ed emozioni. Il tuo suono, come suoni tu, è riconoscibile all'ascolto, "hai uno stile inconfondibile". Continua così!
