I've had mine for a while. Nothing comes close. I sometimes can't believe how good it is. Thanks for posting.
Ernest Mixco I'm glad you agree!
Good review. I've been playing for forty years. I've owned them all, lots of fender tube amps, orange, vox ac15, modeling amps...you name it.
If I was pro who played for a living, I'd still have a few of the above. But for what I do, playing for fun at home and occasionally friends' houses, the micro cube is all I need. I've sold all the others and a dozen pedals.
After decades of wasting time and money, I'm actually glad to be past the GAS stage.
The micro cube (I've got the new gx) is fantastic.
I'm glad you agree! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)
Rick Clark, How did you ever het rid of G A S? Hate it. Return lots from buyers remorse:)Always keep the microcube tho
Hi hello ,is dis cube is portable to play with electronic drum kit.please let me know with your opinion
Thanks and regards
So do you think a distortion pedal is a waste with this amp? Because I just bought one at a pawn shop yesterday and I’m buyin a micro cube today should I return the pedal or keep it. It was only $20
hoping not to sound retarded- but what is GAS?
Totally agree I still have my micro cube . First amp I ever got and habe played it more than any other amp
bought one back in 2012 stays with me in the truck all the time. best part it fits like into a college or high school kids backpack easily portable.. along as the old trusty Ibanez for jamming.. love the fact that runs on batteries cuz even though I have an inverter that can convert to AC power there's too much electronics in a big truck with electronic engine CB satellite transmissions GPS it just basically gives so much crazy feedback..yet there's hardly any love for these and I don't know why you see people jumping up and down and going ape shitt over Line 6 and Fender mustangs and all the others and I've played them but what I like about the rolland in this for such a tiny little thing in a bedroom apartment especially in a long-haul semi the sound is like having a little old-fashioned ghetto blaster as we call them in the states, or boombox it's so portable and light but sound so damn good..plus people have to remember Roland owns boss so you're getting on the effects unlike some of the other chintzy modeling amps that sound horiffic with their built-in effects when you're buying Roland products they own Boss.. you're getting some of the best stompbox effects around...I love my little Roland micro cube I think it's one of the best amps I've ever bought.
and I still use it liberally sometimes when I go home I don't even want to hook up a big amp if I'm just working on something or jamming with some music and a small bedroom I just plug in the Rolland and away we go..
I think I make a video from the truck pretty soon about showing yes I can play an electric guitar and an over-the-road semi in my time off and a little demo too.. great video glad to see some people are still liking these little things in fact I think I might upgrade eventually to a Roland cube Street cube just to have one of them too..but I can tell you right now it just amazes me when you bring it up in the subject of like a regular guitar forum for a Roland micro cube it's just ignored everybody jumps up and down about the Line 6 and all the other ones but oh well maybe it's better that way it's our little secret we know these little amps Kick-Ass🎶🎸😎🚛
I've got my order in now. I'm really excited about checking it out. So many people praise this amp. I recon I'm going to have fun Cheer's Roland!
I have problems to believe how good he is, it surprise me every day,. the build in tuner is precise.. the extreme mode . fantastic sound. go on 1 o'clock on the left effect . you get a spacey criminal sound.
Surprising the number of manufacturers who jumped on the bandwagon of the cubes. The original and still the best
Interesting you say! But agree, they rock ✌️
Darryl Syms what's the song at 1:40
+sarfaraz rahman it's just a riff from one of my own, untitled, but soon released :)
I have a micro cube gx and it's great. lot's of amps sounds. clean to break up is very good. effects are fun to tinker with. delay and reverb are very good. I highly recommend it. It's a great deal, sounds great, looks good and is a lot of fun.
Use it all the time. I use the Brit Combo as my go to setting. But it’s a great little amp
Finally! somone with guitar in tune!!!!!
Hahaha ;P
Bought a cube at the local pawn shop for $40 awhile back. Still love that thing!
I found a used one for sale at the same price, still debating wether I should buy it or not
@@gianski3306 if its in good condition then definatly. If you dont like it you can sell it for the same price ir more
The first amp I ever bought, loved it.
Today I play through a swart atomic space time jr with a cb wah and a bluesky in front of it.
Just bought the same colour speaker. Came on here to look for reviews and you have the identical guitar as well 😄
Wow what a great coincidence! 😆🙏
I bought one today because of your demo and I love it. Thanks!
I'm glad you love it, they're the best! Enjoy! :)
Gonna buy this amp this week!
just ordered one. thx for the demo!
You're welcome, enjoy! :)
I stand completely corrected the Cube is a beast for the money, certainly better than other battery amps.
B Thomas I've never even heard of the Katana range, I still rate the cube as my number one 🙂
Darryl Syms then you my friend are in for a treat. Probably the best cheap combo out right now. So do your self a favour and check them out.
+ B Thomas ( snicker ) I take it you're specifically referring to the Katana Mini. That's like comparing apples to oranges. The Micro Cube GX and the original Micro Cube are BY FAR !!! better sounding amplifiers than the Katana Mini. The Mini reminds me of an offering that a retailer such as Walmart would have on their store shelves along with their El Cheapo electric guitars. Sure, the Mini comes out at a low price point of only $100 dollars, sports 7 watts of maximum output, BUT !!! it only weighs in at a mere 2.6 pounds due to its plastic housing. Then you have the Cube ... Yes, while it has a lower maximum output of only 3 watts, a price point a little higher ( $135 to $150 dollars ), it also weighs in at A HEFTY 6 POUNDS !!! because the amplifier cabinets are made of wood ( which means warmer tone ). Then there's the myriad of settings available on the Cube compared to the Mini. Long story short ? There's a reason why the Micro Cube continues to be the best selling micro amp year after year at our near their price point. Why ?? Because they're the best of the best. Sure, the Mini can get louder than the Cube, but that's where the comparison ends = Louder doesn't always mean Better.
ReneeNme i just a/b’d the micro cube gx and the katana mini(I bought both) and let me tell you,the Cube not only is louder by a country mile, but sounds better on the classic stack setting. It makes the katana mini feel small and muddy and scooped. I don’t know why the cube is almost twice as loud being less watts, but trust me it is. I sent back the katana mini and kept the cube, and have no regrets.
Nice review. I own one of these amps and love it.
Hey hi
Is dis cube is portable for electronic drum kit ,does it support with phones through auxiliary to play the song .
Please let me know about ur opinion
Thanks
Hello from 2024th. I own microcube gx for some years. For me it's better than thrs because of batteries which long really long, 5 inch speaker and wonderful clean tones.
I just ordered mine👍🏻
How is it after 9 months?
Just got one for basically nothing. STOKED.
But those HHs fizz like crazy. To be replaced.
Me too paid $40 bucks for mine! But then got home n my effects knob spins all the way around won’t turn off so I have to leave it set once I find off so I can’t use them total bummer cuz that’s why you buy this amp. I don’t know whether to buy another one of these or just go for peavey vyper 3 cuz it’s only 199 with way more features presets and bigger and micro cube gx is nearly 200 bucks with less hmmmm
Buy another one that works
Darryl Syms you seriously think so? I mean I know it’s amazing and loud for what it is but have you used a peavey vyper they are bigger have like 16 presets even wah is built in and you can buy expression pedal for it.. I figured it was like
Micro cube on steroids? Trust me I love my micro cube but if I ever decide to play anywhere large the peavey would cover that. And a new cube is bout $150 the peavey is 199
Yep. The peavey has way too many functions for my liking, sounds like such a nightmare to configure!
I've heard about people painting the grill black on their Roland Cubes before -- of all types -- but I never thought I'd like it. However, I must say, that with the red body on your Micro Cube, and the black corners, the grill looks amazing in black! It was a really great choice to paint it! Incidentally, I was thinking about selling one of my two Cube Street amps to get one of the newer Micro Cube GXs. What do you think about this plan, as I don't need two Cube Streets anymore?
Sounds like a good plan😎
Amazing
Could you please review the Roland mobile cube?
Great review, great amp too. I've got a Microcube and a Cube 40GX, cracking amps. The only thing I've struggled with, on the Microcube, is the intro to Foxy Lady. Hendrix, live, used, of course, Marshall stacks, volume and sustain. At lowish volumes, at home etc, I'd just set an amp how I wanted it (Session, Peavey, Carvin etc) with the guitar volume at zero, and wind up the volume, rolling it up, using the guitar volume with my little finger. I've tried it on the Microcube and it won't do it, I've tried everything. The amp seems to cut the volume off, not sure if its some sort of noise cancelling circuitry. Any ideas gratefully received. Apart from that anomaly the Cubes are very versatile and I recommend them. 30 years ago if we had amps like these we would have been in heaven!
I think I know what you mean? I have the same thing happen at its lowest possible volume. It’s quiet, but cuts off as if there’s a noise gate. But I never play that quiet so it’s not an issue. If you can, just turn up 🙂
Darryl Syms Hi, thanks, I did wonder if there was noise gate type tech (especially as Roland/Boss are well versed in such things). My challenge these days, with volume, is hearing issues, which certain volumes, frequencies hamper. I dont have amp ultra quiet, although its probably quieter than I used to play when younger. I might try a couple of footpedals and see if that will overcome the issue of the cut off. Many thanks for the explanation.
I too have had a pair of reg. microcubes for many yrs. Many other amps n pedals have come n gone but these are just too handy.Just like my old Peavey bandit usa red stripes.Wudnt want 2part with..
Hi good video!! How to get the Classic stack tone with tube amp (Mesa caliber 50) and pedala? Thanks!!!
john mayer tone with the MC? I bought a GX 2 months ago because of you :)
You're sick Ed! JM tones are easy enough 🙂
My buddy Alex is about to get this amp with his 7 string guitar
Can I plug the recording out straight into my sound card in my PC?
Does the classic stack still sound the same on the GX models??
No idea, but I presume so 🤔
Darryl could you make a video or even a reply here will suffice about how to get John Mayer Tones trough the microcube?
Pretty much use the settings that I've dialed in (classic stack), gain half way, have an appropriate pickup selection, and spend many hours developing your fingers in a way that sounds similar to John 🙂
what's the difference between the microcube and microcube gx?
They're basically the same
a extreme channel and a master volume ;).and a bit more bite on that extreme setting.
also an octave effect
And a memory button to store your settings.
Great Demo!! You say that you are backing your tone "off" very slightly. Where are you setting to? 11 o"clock?
Yup ✌️
heyy hello there i have an old microcube and I've got some problems wondering if you could shed some light on it. It's making a lot of buzzing noise when I plug in the guitar and don't play. And when I play it makes even more buzzing to the point that overshadows my playing especially on the jc clear mode. The sound is just not clean at all which is really really annoying. Do you have any idea why it's like this and how to fix it? Thank you so much.
No idea sorry! It could be the amp, cable, or guitar. Try to isolate each part of the chain to see what the issue is, and if you’re sure it’s the cube then it’s best to take it to a shop or electrician 👍
I just bought a mint one sight unseen off of eBay, and haven't received it yet, but no review I can find explains if the sound will still come out of the amp while using the Record Out jack? Thanks!
Nope it won't. The sound is re-directed through the red-out jack
Can this be used as a karaoke system?
Joey Cabatic yep!
Olá Darryl Syms, poderia tocar também com o Taylor, na posição acoustic.
Hi, nice video i have a question though, can you use i-link with softwares such as tonebride, dr amp, amplitude on android ?
Bryan kakati what's I-Link? 😝
oh i mistyped :D sorry i was talking about i-cube link :D, will i able to use on android for apps such as tonebridge, dr amp and amplitude(without irig) other than just roland cube jam ? and also what do you think about marshall ms4 ? I was ready to buy it until i saw this video, i dont have money to buy microcube right now, i think i should wait and increase my budget if its a better deal and if i-cube link can do what irig does then its a bonus for me haha :)
Gotcha! I don't know much about the I-Cube link I'm afraid, sorry! Perhaps this link will help: www.rolandus.com/go/icubelink/ ? Also, I would definitely save your money for a Cube over a Marshall MS4. You won't be disappointed, and the MS4 will probably sound quite harsh and trebley in comparison to the cube. Check out eBay to find a used one for cheaper! :)
Thank you so much for your suggestion and help :)
Bryan kakati you're welcome, best of luck! 🙂
Some people are saying the newer GX doesn't sound as good. Do have any experience with them?
Nope sorry!
Hello darryl
Is dis cube is portable to play with electronic drum kit , please let me know with ur opinion
Reagards
It is portable and you could plug your electric drum kit in and use it as a speaker yes! But I'm not really sure it's designed for that... I'm not a drummer so maybe you should consider other options too?
I'm still trying to decide on what amp to buy as a beginner for practice. I've been looking at the yamaha thr10 and boss katana amps as they've been given great reviews. Perhaps this would be more suitable? It's certainly cheaper.
I can only recommend this and the THR10. This one is certainly the cheapest and most robust though, and I just LOVE the tone :) The THR10 is also a good one too though. Depends what you have the budget for :) Think about this too... You could save £100 by buying the Microcube and invest that £100 into something else, like a pickup or something. And if you were to buy the Microbe second hand you could probably find one for less than £50!
I don't want to spend more than £200. Ideally £150 (I've missed out on 2 thr10s on ebay for £140-£160). The microcubes seem to be going for around £60-£70. I'm not sure if the thr10 is worth the extra or not.
If you have money to spend every month then sure go for the THR10 if you want. But if you value your money then I suggest getting the Cube and investing your change into other areas of your rig
Cool thank you. I think a trip to mansons is in order, they seem to have both in stock. You're tone here is great so if I can't notice much difference I'll grab the cube. I have an old ibanez rg with a stock ibanez pickup in the neck and a duncan invader in the bridge and a fender lite ash tele with Duncan: APTR-1 Alnico II Pros. Both guitars are 2nd hand and could use a little maintenance (fender frets are a bit worn) so the money saved will be spent on getting them set up etc.
Nice man, sounds like you know what to do! If you happen to be in Devon, I fully recommend getting a setup from a fella called Ian Randall. I've played so many guitars after he's set them up and it's magical! Best of luck on your quest :)
Would this work on a bass
I guess, they have the same outputs as a guitar
There's one specifically made for the bass I think
What about using an acoustic guitar?
Good question! I think I've tried once or twice and it just amplifies the acoustic sound. It's good. But if you're looking to perform then I'd probably get a Roland amp with a bigger speaker
Going by your personal setup, I see that you like Van Halen.
He’s a great player yep, but my setup is not remotely intended to be a reflection of him
Based on how you play, I think your idol is Paul Gilbert haha!
😂
Dude must be a Trump supporter
Who me? 😂
I'm cool with it. I bought one off eBay not too long ago!
So that's it? He doesn't test the distortion channel which we all came here to hear?
“We all” didn’t come here to hear the ‘Metal’ channel. Only you apparently. I demo’d my favourite features. I don’t like the metal channel, so I didn’t demo it because I don’t want to sound like a turd 💁♂️
