    Awesome video brother! I just traded in my 3500 the other day and got the 5000 to power my welder. Ive never experienced running a genny on propane and its great to see it can keep up with a constant load. Plus, I dont have to worry about my engine and carb gunking up. Thanks for making this video!

    That's amazing. I've got a 2500 Champion inverter, and during no power in the freezing cold a couple years ago, it ran ALL night long on a BBQ size tank. In total around 13 hours. Furnace-(Gas), lights, fridge, TV's, Internet routers/switches. Stayed nice and warm. Felt bad we couldn't share with the neighbors, but we did make a huge couple of pots of coffee for them the next morning.

    Thanks for the video! It's really good to know how long the propane tank will last in the real world. Just bought the 5000 yesterday & I prefer using propane over gas. I will have 2 full tanks as I prepare for Hurricane Beryl in the Austin, TX area. It should last me a bit longer since I don't plan on running that heavy a load.

    Thanks, very nice test... It would be nice to see you do the same test on gasoline for comparison. Specifications say 14.6 hours on propane and 18.2 on gas at 25% load. You did 9 on propane. Same load on gas should be around 11.2 hours.

    I got the Predator 5000 on my list.
    I'd like to be able to run it at 7,000 ft elevation, I know the output will be reduced running on propane, just trying to calculate how much, not finding a lot of "Real World" information though.

    I am a UA-camr Sarasota Tim and I have the predator 5. I bought the original returned it Then bought the 3500 returned it ha ha got the 5000 when it was re-released. I’m getting ready to travel with my Camper 25 Flagstaff 15,000btu ac and make UA-cam content on 1 May, I have both gasoline and 2 15lb bottles of propane.
    So I asked myself how long would this run on gasoline and your video came up testing the propane while I have a smaller propane bottle that should get me through the night as I’m 65 years old and don’t need to sleep that long and I have the second bottle plus gasoline. It’s gonna be warm and I hope to be able to go far enough north that I will only have to use it parts of the day maybe not even at night if I get north enough I can only imagine having to feed this generator 24 hrs when I’m not driving. Your video was excellent thank you so much. Consider checking my channel, Sarasota Tim 😎

      You should really get the 20 lb bottles if you can lift them. The 20s are the same size as the 15s but some companies just rip you off by selling the 15 lb tanks for the same price as other companies sell the 20 lb bottles. The current whole sale value of the propane in a 20 lb tank is $3.33. The rest if pure profit.

      The new bottles that you get out of the machines are 15 pound or just under 4 gallons of propane. I never bought a tank from Lowe's or other store . They are heavy enough to carry around. 73

    Great video bud , I’m in Houston and I’m running my Predator 5000 on my home . No Power due to storm that hit Thursday 6pm . It is running half my homes utilities. Lights , 2 Tvs, 5 fans and some small items to charge phone ext. it seems to be running great . I got 10 hours run time on a small 20 lb propane bottle . I was curious to see if I can buy a window unit to run and after seeing your video confirming it could handle it I’ll be making a trip to Home Depot to grab me a small 5000 BTU window unit to run until the lights get turned back on . Thanks

    I am wanting a quieter generator and stopped by HF to purchase one of these today. I found out that they were $300 cheaper yesterday. Since I only wanted one and didn't need one, I decided to wait until they go on sale again. Is that a standard quick connect or a proprietary connector? What is the black thing between the hose and regulator? Is it really needed? I want to mount one of these on the back of my RV and plumb it in correctly.

    It is the hose oil leakage that is a problem.

    9 hrs on that tank isn’t bad. Runs much cleaner, you do lose a little power but there a trade off for everything. Me personally I think I’m just going to stick to running propane through it. Internals will be spotless and I don’t have to worry about adding additive to the crap fuel we have now

    Any idea if your gen would run a well pump? 100 ft well. I know that wasn’t the topic but been thinking what to do out here in the country if I lost power for a month.

    • @RockyRohde
      @RockyRohde  10 місяців тому +3

      You prob need a 240 volt generator.. If you have a 110 volt pump it would work..

  • @ChaJ67
    @ChaJ67 5 місяців тому +1

    It goes to show that 25% load is not efficient for this generator. When you are pulling more like 57% load and it cuts you down to 9 hours on a 20 lbs tank instead of the rated 14.6 hours on 20 lbs of propane, if efficiency was the same, you should be hitting closer to 6.5 hours. I suspect near full load you will also see the efficiency drop. So you are probably in the high efficiency band of the generator in this test. There is also the issue of as it cools down at night, air conditioners use less power. So this may not be a valid test.
    It seems to point to if you are looking to run the generator all waking hours of the day in a real world situation and shut down around bedtime, you probably need more like a 30 lbs propane tank. A 40 lbs tank may not make it through the night as low load still burns a significant amount as efficiency drops at low load. Jumping up to a 100 lbs tank, you may get 2 days of 24 hour run time out of this generator. Maybe push it out to three days if you shut off at night.
    For conversions, it seems 15 lbs of propane ~= 2 gallons of gasoline in terms of run time.

    Is the hose/regulator for the propane tank hookup included with purchase?

  • @BGWenterprises
    @BGWenterprises 7 місяців тому +1

    Its max nonstop output is 3,600w with LP.
    So 2K thats about 56%~ of rated steady watts output on LP.
    .
    I think if you do a test on gas, you'll find that the size of the gas tank will affect run time, per filling. With larger power loads then the 25% numbers they use to advertise with.

    The Predator 5000 is Recalled and out of stock. If anyone bought one, check out serial number and take it back if a bad unit. Many complaints that they shut off under substantial, but within specs, loads.
    Until they get this one correct, the Champion 4650 w/ dual fuel and remote start is the ticket. Just as quiet. No issues. If you really want a Predator 5000 they apparently will be restocking a 'fixed' unit Dec 21st.
