Even with acts like Bathory, Hellhammer, and Slayer around, this must have been one of the must brutally psychotic-sounding metal albums to emerge at the time. It's pure, unrelenting, raw hell on a level that, years later, acts like Mayhem and Black Death (pre-Darkthrone) of Norway would try to emulate. Great stuff right here.
Yeah, eventualy those Norwegian guys betrayed death metal for black metal. Immortal, Molested (Borknagar), Darkthrone and of course Mayhem started as death metal but used black metal as a rebellion to death metal music.
In case anyone was wondering, you're listening to the first ever low gutteral right now. Kam Lee wasn't sufficient with highs you hear Chuck and Possession do. So he would try to "impersonate a werewolf" or any other malevolent horror creature. (I'm of course omitting The Who's Boris the Spider because it wasn't death metal)
It isn't actually gutterals or really the traditional definition of a low, but I will agree that it is the first mid (or really non high for that matter). Gutterals are actually a technique of vocals involving a unique mouth formation and tongue placement that is most notable for being on barnes era cannibal corpse (aside from the earlier demos and first album.)
that's true. Only a fool would deny Kam Lee's primordial part in the evolution of death metal singing or anti-singing. Low guttural vocals are his invention, he was the first to ever do it, the rest came after and took lee's approach as inspiration but Kam Lee was the first one ever period.
Lol what!? Suggesting the albums aren't as "effective"? Have you even heard the albums? They're some of the most influential & acclaimed extreme metal albums ever.
I’m not a big fan of death, mostly because I don’t like screams, but this demo is amazing. This may have influence later bands like autopsy and cannibal corpse
@@bizzles44 You sound limited on your intent to define that danielfoley needs so much to learn. I was there, and YES, this demo influenced Autopsy, Cannibal Corpse, lots of other bands including even BM bands like Blasphemy, VON, Impaled Nazarene... Just clarifying here.
This came out around the same time as Bathory's first album around 7 months before The Return. Nothing Death were doing at this time was inspired by Bathory, it was all inspired by Venom and Slayer.
@@cobgod1415 And who said anything about "The return " album ?Bathory had that song recorded *before their debut album for the "Scandinavian Metal Attack " compilation. Tf are you on ?
It could be considered first wave black metal, cause first wave black metal was just extreme thrash metal with lyrics about stuff like hell and satan. Most people consider it death metal though.
¿Es un troll o es estúpido? Es un Demo, no contaban con una discográfica para sacar discos con mejor calidad. Su primer álbum con calidad fue de audio fue Scream Bloody Gore.

Kam Lee and Rick Rozz also deserves a lot of appreciation for being a part of this music which was unlike anything that existed in 1984

This doesn't sound like death! But it's still amazing! They never failed at making good music
So that's where corpsegrinder came from. Of course Massacre was essentially the same as the Death line up under leprosy...lol -1..lol

Lol what!? Suggesting the albums aren't as "effective"? Have you even heard the albums? They're some of the most influential & acclaimed extreme metal albums ever.
it seems like Corpse Grinder from Massacre. I guess it's same song
James Earl Cash before Chuck did vocals there was another vocalist. He left death and formed massacre, and they did corpsegrinder.
Kam Lee singing im thinking.
Timeline of early death/mantas vocalists:
early 1984 = mark conrad
early 1984 - june 1985 = kam lee (chuck sometimes)
june 1985 = chuck
It’s a death song. Massacre re-recorded it from this tape
@@bizzles44they had every right to do so though, it's Rick Rozz's song
Sounds like horrifying thrash METAL .
Thrash crust metal
@@oysteinfenriz9628 But Crust is not metal but punk, I guess it might be also kinda grindy.
