at this point I don't even know what's trendy anymore tbh! I just want plants that look good aesthetically and do their part in providing a large range of leaf shapes, sizes, textures, colors, etc. to my home
I few years ago before Peperomia Quitos were available in the US, I tried to import some from Canada, but it was such a pain. So glad they’re available here now! If only I had better luck with Caperatta varieties
C Nick! corny, but the truth… seeing you uploaded a video always makes my day better! Thank you… $150 ABSOLUTELY NOT… right. I’m right with ya Sis! Hope you are doing well. Love your new plants, I killed Hoya Australia’s Lisa too.😢
Hi Nick! Greetings from Australia. I got myself an Australis Lisa about a year ago. It came in peat moss. I placed it in a well lit spot and let it settle for a couple of weeks without watering it and then, when it was time to water it, instead of watering it, I repotted it into a chunky mix of regular good quality potting mix, orchid bark, perlite and clay balls. Then I gave it a good thorough watering and did not water it again until it was almost completely dry. I treat mine as though it were a succulent and let it almost dry all the way through between waterings. I am not in a warm part of Australia, but I have mine on a window sill that receives dappled afternoon sunlight. I do not have a humidifier or grow light and I would say that my home is cooler than average. It has grown so much! I don't know if any of this will help you, but you never know! I am thrilled to see Hoyas coming down in price!
Hi Grace, whereabouts in Aus? I have been meaning to get the Lisa but as u know winter is crazy in Melbourne at the moment! Unsure wether she’ll survive outdoors 😅
@@tigrezz0852 hello fellow Melburnian! Fear not! My Lisa is thriving indoors, on a sunny window sill and (due to price increases) I don't turn on my heating until the evening 😅 She is so healthy and strong. Woolworths has some at the moment for $25 in pretty pots (and three plants in the pot). Bunnings regularly has them too 🤗
Fred Meyer had F. shiveriana at $29.99 in cache pots. It looked like one store got a heat stressed shipment. All had lost a lower leaf or a few leaves, and most had some crispy edges, and they just didn't look perky. Then (of course) the staff over-watered them. But they were marked down to $6.24, so I bought one, with my retiree discount, $5.61. Took it out of the pot and set the soil mass on a towel for an hour. It perked up, so I went back a few days later and bought another. If they still have any tomorrow, I'm going to get a third and plant them together next year. It's a stunner and is the first plant I've bought in three years. Like you, I was in the trade as a buyer for 10 years and worked professionally with plants off and on since the '70s, at one point, my career. I don't believe I've posted on your excellent videos before, but you're certainly a truther! Thank you.
Love you channel ! I am a lover of peperomias ! I bought my first Hoya for the first time a month ago . Pre COVID I had about 10 plants now I have over 200 and about 100 propagations 😂 I just started selling on Marketplace . Please keep the videos coming 😊
I also just purchased the same Ficus Shivereana, it looks the exact size as yours! When I came home and looked it up, I did see people saying it was very finicky. So good luck to us!
I was doing a college campus tour this summer and saw a 6-foot-tall variegated aurellia (the one with the round leaves with variegated edges, pretty much a Lowe's staple) in one of the offices, and fell in love with it. I didn't know these things can actually grow into a statement piece like a fiddle leaf fig. Between the wonky woody stems and the leaf canopy that is turned to the window, it was amazing.
I really like bromeliads. Personally I just live in FL where they’re everywhere outside, they clump and climb trees a bit and some yards are filled with them. All the different kinds and flowers are very unique and cool looking. I used to pick the big red flowers from my old yard and make massive bouquets. I’ve just never considered them as houseplants.
I have the hoya australis Lisa variegated 🤔and it’s been about 2ish months and it’s finally doing something for me. The new leaves are a beautiful red color!
It is funny that you say that about the Lisa. I have been able to keep some of that alive (struggling, but alive), but I can't keep the green one alive 😅
Hi Nick! Those are really nice plants! I love the look of the Hoya variegated Australis "Lisa". I hope it does well for you. The Rhaphidophora hookeri was a great deal! I really like it, too. I've tried growing the false aralia several time, but haven't had good luck with them. I hope you will do an update, and plant care on it. I really like them and would like to try one again. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hey Nick! I have struggled with Hoya australis lisa too! The leaves are softer than most similar Hoya. Planting in terracotta and watering frequently really helped mine to thrive. Good luck!
that's what I did, but every time I water this plant, it is losing two or three leaves, at this pace, it will die ! .....I am desperate, I have more luck with the callistophyla !
Nick, you know I'm in Thailand so this may not apply but... I have found that if I don't repot my Hoyas... they thrive! If I repot them... they do the whole "sleep, sleep, sleep, creep... die" thing. So try leaving this one in that pot for a few years and see how it does. It may surprise you! Almost all of my Hoyas are covered in pudunkles (but only the ones in their original pots) so it seems to be working well for me so far...
I bought a varigated false aralia a few months ago. Very cute cream edges to the leaves. It was similar size to yours. It hasn’t given me any issues, but has done almost zero growing, despite being in a very sunny window, so maybe manage expectations as to how quickly it will become a big plant?
that plant shelf is chaos and I love it Edit: philodendron prince of orange has orange new growth, though it can lean more reddish. it is a self-header.
My regular australis is a rock star! My Lisa (who lives right next to my reg. one) is pathetic. She’s down to 3 stems over the past 3 1/2 years. 🤦🏻♀️ Thanks for sharing your Lisa struggle. Now I don’t feel so alone! 😅
I bought an Australis Lisa, a shiveriana, a white princess and pink princess (both with awesome varigation) and a black pagoda lipstick plant. My local plant shop has started to get different plants and it's been fun shopping this summer. ☺️
Hi Nick - you briefly touched on TC vs non TV Raphidaphora tetrasperma. Did you ever do a video on this or do you have any pictures of both when they looked different vs now in their identical stage? I would love to see that. TIA 😊
Don't fear the bugs! They are a part of plant life, we all get them even experienced plant folk. There a a guzzillion non toxic remedies out there take advantage of them and find ones that work for you. I would hate for you to stop being a plant person just because of some pesky bugs! Be brave, you got this!
Quito is the capital of Ecuador. But Quito can be translated to "remove" I can understand your confusion on why remove would make sense 🤣 but it's named for the capital city!
I was given a 6'+ tall false aralia someone no longer wanted and they really are such stunning and under rated plants! Really really beautiful at that size. It hated my apartment but it's thriving with my parents now haha
I've two Philodendron 'Red Sun'... The new leaves appear orange-red and turn green with time. A firework on the windowsill / The stems and roots are red too. Greetings from the twin city of Philadelphia/founders city Krefeld (Germany) Susanne
I have lusted over a friends false aralia for years! They used to be so common but I thought they were out of fashion or something. Congratulations on your haul!
Bigger specimens with more slender leaves are even more stunning. They are very hard to keep happy, though. Very vulnerable to low and high temps and dry environs.
With the dracena, my first thought was it looks like a snake plant!!! My australis lisa has reverted except for one small growth. The rest of the plant has taken off like mad. The small un-reverted part is just sitting there. Whatcha gonna do? lol
I have a Hoya Sunrise I'm struggling with which is insane cause my other hoya's really took off on my around their second year and for some reason I think this one doesn't like to go too dry on me? Is the only thing I can come up with. Plerandra elegantissima! I have never known the name to this my Grandma had one for years and I never knew what it was called ty!

I have a teeny false Arailia I’ve had for about 8 months, 2 inch pot. Hasn’t grown AT ALL. I have no idea anything about it yet it was just a cheapy last min purchase, I water, fertilize, and nothing yet.

Nice selection! How do you prevent muffin from nibbling on any of your plants? I have a new kitten and so far he's not been near any but my most toxic are outside for the summer...
I found a Dracaena goldieana a few months ago for under 20 dollars Canadian. It's a great plant ! No troubles so far, grows slow but that is expected :)
Yay its nick love the lisa!! I so agree but im done with philos b.c of growth patters an space an some just grow stupid lol dont get me wrong i love philos also but im done lmao thank Nick ive missed ya xo

Exactly what I was thinking! I'm so over seeing monsteras and philos....
Quito is the capital city of Ecuador, darling. Maybe that might make more sense? Hope you're having a wonderful day!
yes it does 😂
quito (lowercase) could translate as "I take away (something)". No wonder he was confused 🙃

Literally just got an Australia Lisa 2 weeks ago. Looking forward to more videos on yours. And that’s a big plant for $8
I love that you pick out underrated houseplants instead of going all high variegation albos all the time.
