This song has become my anthem. I have a few serious medical conditions and this song gives me hope. I know songs can have different meanings to different people. Its all about your perspective of the message. Whatever hope that message gives you, hold on to it tightly.

My mom passed away a little over a year ago after having cancer for three years. Im 20 now but my whole life I was brought up on a more than healthy serving of Pearl Jam, her absolute favorites. I think she saw them almost 20 times over the years. Ive always really loved this song but just now took the time to read through the lyrics while it played and immediately the tears came pouring down my face. She was a teacher for over thirty years, and mom to two crazy boys who often brought home at least five friends over every weekend until we were out of high school. she saw all of our friends like she did us. many of them with some very very serious things going on in their lives I couldn't begin to explain but every boy or girl who walked through the door was always greeted with a smile or hug and lots of laughs.

As far as you could tell my mother was untouched by the disease that slowly took over her, you could never tell.She was so fucking tough man. She touched so many lives, 700 people showed up to her funeral and over 1,000 to her wake. Many people told my father, brother and I that she fought hard, but my father so wisely said to me once that she didn't fight hard, she lived hard. She was and forever will be the most incredible, badass, humorous and just flat out greatest person I'll ever meet. Words truly fail to say how much I miss her but songs like these keep me going and inspire me to try and be as great as she was. For those who read this much take the time and even if there's just one person out there, let em know you love them, you will never regret it I promise.
Thanks brother, I really needed this. I will spend more time with my mom, I really love her but sometimes I ignore her, thinking about this, I just can't imagine a world without her. This really made me cry. I send you all the love man! Take care.

My friend lost his life in a tragic accident and this song encapsulates his life he's been gone for 15 years and his daughter gave me his ring that he wore for years out of nowhere she was a baby when he left she said that this song reminded her of our friendship and it caught me off guard that when I hear it was like it was just for him

My husband fought bipolar disorder and addiction took his own life when our girls were just 10 and 4 yrs old... my now 18 yr old and 12 yr old play this for their dad...

The first CD I ever bought in '98 from hmv music. Had heard wishlist on triple m in Australia and saw the ad for this album in tracks magazine which was a surfing magazine. Dad took me to buy this CD one weekend after a surf and it changed my life

Just returned from 2 years of boot camp, training, then straight to deployment, then field exercise. Then my first weekend back in the states June 2017. Took a random road trip to big sur, rented a bike, and found out all the roads had car traffic blocked off. Literally 100 miles of cliffside beaches, two wheels, a couple mres, and God.

Love the song, it's light parts sound a hell of a lot like going to california though, perhaps that's why I like it so much. Great songs often come from great songs, Zeppelin certainly knows all about that.
