Hi, loved the tips from Jason, hope to see some more. Always had a desire to learn sax and to combine it with my other love, which is house music and I found this YT video explaining about DJ Sax genre, which is exactly what I would like to learn and play. I’m considering buying a sax for begginers but still building my confidence as I have no clue about theoretical stuff, with scales, etc.
This was awesome! Just found Jason recently and then found this video…been watching you for years…never thought I’d like this genre of sax being 54 and a little more of the smooth jazz/rock jazz ala Dave Koz/Michael Lington/David Sanborn, but it’s great…I bought a Mark VI two years ago and find I can’t put it down (I also own a YAS 62 mark 1 that I’ve had since new back in 1999)…so, I’m always trying different genres, styles, etc to explore the versatility of this horn…great stuff! Get him back!!!
Good counsel. I was engaged to play (solo sax with backing tracks) for a New Year's Eve party. When I saw the crowd I realized my playlist was not "on target." I told the DJ, "Just play your music and I'll play along." It turned out to be one of my most fun gigs -- 1 hour straight improv. In hindsight I probably could have left a bit more space.
Hello Mr. Nigel and Mr. Jason white i have been 3 years and a half playing on the alto saxophone and would like to start a gig on stage with a dj I have not tried it before and don't have experience to play between people so how I would start my first gig? Iam a little bit afraid and nervous so is there a way I can handle this issue? Thank you and best regards
