I like that you include some discussion and examples of the stylistic aspects of the genre - space, short phrases, repeated short riffs - that make even early attempts sound more like a "real" funk solo.
Hey Nigel, loving the awesome content you're putting out! I'm interested in commissioning some work from you. What's the best way to get in touch? Thank you
@@McGillMusicSaxSchool Nice one! Is there any particular reason you choose this particular brand and model over some of the other ones like Selmer and Yanagisawa?
Hey, Nigel! I catch ya:) In the sixth bar of your jam you are playing slightly different pattern rhythm than it's on the score.:P Ofcourse, both versions are super cool, thank you for the inspiration. Greetings from Bulgaria! :)
Nigel I'm thinking about starting play saxophone. I don´t know what to buy but I know I like the bright sound of the Alto, do you know any good (reasonable) model for a budget of 500$ to play Funky Music? I would really appreciate your input.
I’m on alto in this lesson but you can also get a great funk sound from tenor. Check out this lesson : ua-cam.com/video/Mt0L666BCVM/v-deo.html Or this one is good if you’re new to sax: ua-cam.com/video/5Ozzr8nIhro/v-deo.html
Thanks for the lesson Nigel, but I´m a bit confused. When I tried to access the pdf and backing track I received an email that told me that I could now access the Locker inside the Members area. But in order to get there I need to join the School? With all due respect I thought it was free material. Being forced to get a free trial giving all my personal information is not what I was expecting for a simple exercise. I understand you are running a business, of course. This access is a bit misleading though. Just my two cents. Fantastic jam otherwise. Thanks anyway. EDIT: I was wrong. It is indeed free. The reason I'm leaving this comment is to stress that Nigel replied to an email I sent in a few hours, clarifying all my doubts. This is clearly a testament of great support and a well run operation.
For a begginer session you really rush and don't show where the fingers go easily on the notes it's difficult to see what fingers are actually on or off imo
This was obnoxious. I'm starting out on tenor, i cant see your fingering position as it got more complicated beyond bflat. Time waste for real* absolute beginner tenor.
I hope you enjoy this Jam! Grab the free PDF+Track here: saxschoolonline.com/articles/easy-funk-jam-for-saxophone/
Im a flute player and I transcribed the notes, and I had a great time with this!! Thank you!!
Wonderful!
Brilliant! Thanks for this, Nigel.
Thanks Michelle

Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Nigel I am new to this and I am trying to play Tenor Sax. I like to the music and the backing track.
Have fun learning tenor Henry!

Nice licks! Good insight into funk rhythm as opposed to other genres! (I have to wait for the neighbors to go out to practice this. Ha)
Ha! They might like it Rob!
great lesson
Thanks!
Great! Clear and structured. I love "The Jam" at 7:51 - Play that funk!
Glad you enjoyed it.
What brand and model alto sax is that? The colour is beautiful!
Cheers! That’s actually a Yamaha YAS62 “Purple Logo” from the 1980’s. Thanks for watching.

Great question Joao. Check out our tips here: saxschoolonline.com/articles/buying-a-beginner-saxophone/
@@McGillMusicSaxSchool thank you very much
If your in the US, try to find an Aristocrat. They play alright w\a full sound. You can generaly find them for $200 or less.
Thank you 🙏 It was amazing 🤩
Can I ask why are you using the notes that are not in the major scale? Why flat 3rd and 7th?
Thanks
Great question Liam- it’s really just because I want to make the note choices as simple as possible.
Is this played on a tenor or alto sax ? Brought a tenor sax but worried it’s not the right instrument for those high funk notes

Fantastic
Not pertaining to this video but, was a new Tenor Saxophone ever decided on or still searching????
Hi. Actually I have made a decision, but COVID has delayed production. I'll have more info for you soon....

I’m glad you got the help you needed (and the FREE resources too). Enjoy!
Oi...is that a Naked Lady in your corner or are you Conning us? Lol. Be safe all.
You cut off the funky solo at the best part 😅 I would have loved to hear a 3 minute funky sax solo

No worries. If you’re just starting on tenor this might be more helpful: ua-cam.com/video/JMI-vgyZx_w/v-deo.htmlsi=DTZwswaxs4v5vk8w
