I believe it needs a total refresh; that bottom end has a knock that doesn’t sound healthy. Might be a good idea to not keep running it to prevent catastrophe. If you want to drive this car maybe install the motor you guys just rebuilt from the yellow 914. I still believe the best bets are finishing the Ghia and the Swamp Dragon; the series for each of them should be driving them back to Orlando once they’re finished. Would make for epic series.
OH !! How I wish I had my 1st old Porsche back. A 1970 914-6. Crazy fast little car. I had it in the early '70's when I worked at Road Atlanta. I used to scare the heck out of my girlfriends and myself on that track with that car. Sweet Memories~~!

Hi again CT! Spent Sunday afternoon watching you take your 914 apart! Please bag, tag and label whatever you remove! After my first comments, I had to look it up and there were 4100 of the 76s made! By comparison 2300 of the 914-6 were made. The rear valence you cut off should be saved and restored if possible . Contact Dr. 914 at Atlanta Auto about replacement parts or give his videos a check, he should have whatever you need or know where you could get it! Done right, this is a $20-30k car!
That was fun to watch. I was a fuel attendant at a gas station when a customer pulled up in one. He bought one of the first ones that day and was so proud of it. A lot of guys called them a glorified Volkswagen 😝. Haters gonna hate. You have a long journey ahead to complete it. The device that you pulled off the body, that is part of the FI, it’s an Auxiliary air valve 😁
For the most part you cant tell what's going on with a motor by looking at the dirt on the outside. From your videos you seem to just want to rebuild engines. That is a perfectly fine ethos. But the internals could be perfectly fine. You could take that motor and get it running. Do a compression check . The long block could be perfectly fine. Cool video. Cool that you found that 2.0
CT, mon ami, you've been upgrading your skills and video like crazy ! I remember you showing us all almost every rusted bolt and nuts from Crusty. I did critized you on that. Now, you cut the obvious crap and show us real interesting stuff. Good for you and your channel's future !
Double jack stands and tires for insurance. Good thinking after seeing all the rust. Better safe than sorry. I've worked on some VERY rusty 914s that I didn't want to get under!
Keep up the good work! For the earlier 914's there was recall on the fuel pump due to vapor lock. It was decided to move it to the front of the car. I dont remember if the 75/76 cars came off the line with it in the front trunk or not.
I like how the exhaust system comes out as in one complete piece with the engine and transmission,,,without having to take the exhaust system off the manifold.
That rectangular thing on top of the gas tank is most probably an evaporative emissions control device, seeing the way it is installed, able to draw evaporated gas from the tank.
Excellent video CT :) rebuilt engine & transmission too maybe do plus filter also pan gasket too and glad was fairly easy take out surprises me ! Also brake booster need services up plus do cleaning to fuel tank with 60 % hot water 40 % vinegar let sit for 60 mins and shake up after fill up 3/4 full also repeat too!

Owned 914 way back when. Not much on bottom end, but get it moving it was hard to catch. Takes lots of maintenance weren’t cheap to own. I had a buddy that had 3-4 that kinda ran, then had 3-4 that didn’t run. He had 914-6 that ran pretty good, then he bought a new Porsche that some Dr’s wife had wrecked, tore hole in cloth convertible top. Wrecked, called dealer, traded cars with hers sitting in her driveway wrecked. Dealer brought her a new car, called my buddy offered him a deal on wrecked one. He could fix almost anything.

The rear wheel bearings are held together and supported by the stub axle. There will always be some play with the axle removed; to check the play properly the axle must be in place and torqued to spec. Do you have a Haynes manual for the 914? It's about as good as you'll find in print currently. It literally has about 85% of the content from the factory manuals (word for word and photo for photo!) directly copied. Well worth the small $ cost. If you search carefully, you may be able to find PDF files of the original factory manuals on-line as well. But the Haynes is a whole lot more handy, I find.
CT please heed these warnings; take really good detailed pictures of the air box and duct routing, as well as the valves, and duct valve/door actuator cables. You will need to remove all that to put new seals on the openings. BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL with the corrugated plastic pipes connecting the air box, they are effectively unobtainium, or just plain stupid expensive. Yours will be very fragile. I suggest spraying them with a really good silicone spay and let them absorb it as much as possible, before attempting to remove them. The box and fan assembly is over $500. It will be a hell of a challenge rebuilding this one. Since it’s well documented now, that it’s a basket case, so you should feel free to resto-mod it, tastefully. 914’s where one of the first EV conversions.
