There are tons of tsunderes that are written so much better than her. She is a spoiled brat who needs a parental figure in her life and finds a very passive father figure in Ryuugi who is too timid to push back even in the slightest. Their "romance" was so awkward and uncomfortable

Shes not really a tsundere since she doesn’t even like ryuji for most of the show and when she realizes that she does they pretty quickly get together. She is definitely abusive at the beginning of the show, but thats because of how she was raised(not defending the actions btw just the character; she is well written imo). Her constant family drama has taught her that she can’t really rely on or trust anyone and so when ryuji does try and care for her she lashes out. Now even saying all this, I still wouldn’t like the character if she was like this the whole time. However, after like 3 episodes, she and ryuji become really close and she she begins to care about him immensely. She still sometimes hits him, but at this point its clear that its more of a show of affection as opposed to anything else.

She was just upset and scared that he was gonna leave so she pretended to be mad at him to hide her feelings and she’s not selfish because she literally gave her best friend. The guy that she loved, and her best friend was like no I’m gonna decide what makes me happy no one else and taiga got to be with the one she loved because her best friend refused him, and her best friend even told her to have him so taiga is not selfish at all, and in case for all the people who didn’t watch the end of the last episode, she came back she came back to surprise Ryuuji
Does that justify abusing him, I know you people can make many theories about how taiga was alone and didn't had anyone to guild thats why she became abusive but in the end she was still a 16 or 17 yo highschooler and it was not like she was being isolated. How do you people not understand comedic violence is not the same as actual/dramatic violence? It's like Looney tunes. Ryuuji is never actually hurt. It's purely for comedic effect. If you don't find it funny, that's ok, but it's clearly not an actual abusive relationship. It's a common anime trope that doesn't actually represent real violence. Taiga is clearly shown to care about others more than herself, and those calling her an abuser are just confused and don't understand the concept of slapstick.

ToroDora may be a Comedy but it’s Drama with a Romance that supports the main plot which is about The characters and how they all put on mask to hide their true feelings is definitely the main topic for the show Taiga may not be the best person ever but to say she has no good moments with Ryuji is baffling. You got simple moments the couch scene during their vacation where she describes how she comfortable around him or the Santa scene where Ryuji goes out of his way to make sure she not alone on Christmas.

No, I disagree. Toradora was my first rom com anime. The show is great. U can have ur own opinion, but this show is also a slice-of-life anime. I binged the whole thing last week, and I didn't see anything wrong with what he said. It was boring, unfunny, uncreative and melodramatic, and the first thing I did after I finished it was go look for fanfiction where the main characters ended up with anyone but eachother.

the original light novels are pretty similar, but there is a lot more characterization of all of the characters, particularly ami and minori. They definitely are the definitive way to experience the story, as they have a lot of stuff that gets left out in the anime.
I think Taiga kinda aged poorly as a character. We've mostly moved on from the overly violent tsundere trope (which was frankly a bit played out even when Toradora aired) so she comes off as just really weird. Lots of people irl have bad family situations but don't go around beating up everyone in sight.
I don't mind a tsundere if it's either comedic or she has something else going on, but Taiga was just plain annoying. I tried watching the show back in the day, and I gave up after the first episode or two because she was so unlikeable. I definitely hadn't seen a bunch of tsunderes at that point.
Taiga aisaka is always angry for no reason, and people are normalizing toxicity and abuse. Even if someone has issues that doesn’t give anyone the right to hit another person for no reason and taiga hits the MC several times a day and that is abusive. If someone irl did the things taiga was doing most likely, they’d be in jail. Abuse or violent acts isn’t cute, it’s wrong and not something to be romanticized. I swear the MC has to be a masochist.
Toradora isn t a story that simply focus on romance, is mainly about a lot of childish decisions made by high schoolers on a romantic background. Ami Kawashima is supposed to be the most complete character cause her arc was over as soon as the stalker left, her role is to call the other mcs on their childish bs. I fail to see how the story has no plot since it just keeps on addressing teen-like situations and show how kids take bad decisions before eventually arriving at the right answer for them. The only thing this anime has is good animation. Some people think good animation = great show and completely turn off their brains when actually watching it. Taiga is the most insuffreable, abusive brat there is and she's romanticized to be "oh no poor taiga these stuff happened, now pity her". Everytime she physically abuses Ryuji it's treated like comedy and "haha man gets hit lol" (as if men getting abused was funny in the slightest), and she emotionally abuses and manipulates everyone around her constantly too. But oh, whenever something, even a minor or VERY understandable thing happens to her, THEN the entire show's tone change dramatically to make her a poor victim of the situation! She never changes, or gets any character development and the show only justifies her actions. She can fuck everyone else's lives, but when something doesn't go as she likes, it's the end of the world. Honestly, if it was just any bad show it wouldn't stand out because crappy romances (with romantization of abusive and toxic characters) are sadly really common and unremarkable. But this anime is praised on so much and called a "masterpiece" or what have you, it's really worrying that THIS is the "PEAK ROMANCE" people think about. Motherfucker this is how dysfunctional families start.

The biggest flaw with this series that everyone keeps overlooking: how all the side characters dictate who the main characters should like. Both MC's have their initial crushes whom they try to approach but NOPE - those characters says no and decide that the MC"s are meant for each other instead whilst also using their own little pathetic problems as excuses. And what is worse, the MC's are not allowed to make any other decisions for themselves but are practically forced together for the mere convenience of the said side characters.
Yeah, the whole "I like but I know my best friend needs you more so I'm gonna hide my feelings forever" would have a lot more weight to it if she'd actually been telling the truth about never having been in love, and fallen for him after that when there was reason to suspect that he subconsciously liked Taiga. Having her be in love with him from the beginning and immediately making that decision was incredibly stupid and unrealistic. A sane person would have joined forces with her crush to help Taiga together, instead of keeping her distance and letting them stumble blindly from one disaster to the next without her help, in the hope that they fell in love with eachother before one of them ended up dead or mentally ill...
Bro acknowledged Ami's character development but just completely ignores Taiga's character development throughout the whole show like what? Oh and here's the definition of tsundere. I guess we just never see her have a warmer friendlier side. I understand her calling Ryuji a dog and breaking into his house is crazy, but saying she's the worst part of the whole show is being a little dramatic. I don't think you realize that the stuff she does for him is crazy. She was willing to let Ryuji the person she loves be with her best friend. Taiga constantly tries to help Ryuji get with Minori completely ready to get rid of all of her feelings for him so they can both be happy together while she sacrifices herself. Taiga literally has no one her mom left, and her dad is a piece of garbage I think she just doesn't really properly know what to do with friendly emotions because she quite literally was all alone all her life. Now lets get to Ryuji. Saying he is the "Most typical romance protagonist ever" is taking it too far. His dad was also probably a piece of garbage, everyone was always afraid of him because he looks scary, but Yūsaku Ryuji's best friend saw that he was just more than just a scary face but an actually human being. Ryuji likes to cook and clean and take care of his mom and just is generally a nice person and someone to be around. Listen I could go on and on but how your just wrong but it would take to long.

yes the point is to show her character growth from beginning to end, you are meant to dislike her at the beginning, when analyzing a show that involves the peeling back of layers of the characters it is wrong to make judgements from the first 3 episodes. I am not triggered by your opinion because in the first few episodes she is meant to be insufferable but it is best to make judgements once you have finished the show.

Inuyahsa, and I'm not sure that Taiga was written that well, and I'm aware that with time a Tsundere ends up changing and being different or becoming softer, but I think there are much better Tsundere characters, as I gave an example, maybe my opinion isn't that valid since I haven't finished the anime, but it's still a reason why I dropped it

I had the same experience and could barely watch a second time. Seems like alot of ppl lost in the fog of nostalgia and can barely make good arguments why this show was good and are legit out here making excuses for how shitty a person Taiga was (I mean theres a reason she lives alone and surprisingly her only female friend was a girl she was nice to so it means she can be nice to Ryuji)
U cannot say a character is bad because their personality is bad dude. That’s just objectively a bad way of going about characters. However I get where people come from if they don’t like the anime for how unlikeable the characters. That’s your opinion. But some of these haters have no respect for people who enjoy it. I'm pretty sure 90% of this show's fans have never been in a relationship with someone like Taiga. It's awful. It's torturous. It causes deep emotional and sometimes physical trauma that takes years of therapy to overcome. Whether the writers meant for it to be slapstick or not, Taiga's physical and verbal treatment of Ryuji is still abusive. It should not be praised. Imagine the nuclear fallout if an anime/manga released that was just Toradora, but with Ryuji and Taiga's genders swapped.

Most of the viewers (myself included, I watched this when I was under 13 and stupid) have been watching too much anime and normalised the fact that this is good, which it isn't. They all need to grow up and have a realistic sense in life instead.

I would have rated this show perfectly ten years ago upon first watching. After rewatching just recently it would be much lower. It’s hard to like a show where the leads are so bland and have little self-reflection. The drama at the end is too forced and feels unnatural.
yeah he just ignores and passes over all of the interesting character development that happens to the characters throughout the show and gives little to no context for any of the scenes. So yeah as a fellow fan I know you enjoyed this video so much.
People that dislike this anime generally are shallow with very little real-life experience. If you talk to them they invariably project their own version of events, miss the motivations of the characters entirely, and are not the sharpest pencil in the sock-drawer.

i've noticed most people who like this one either have problems talking to women or have had terrible relationships in the past. not to say you aren't allowed to like it but i am saying i will look at you a little different if you do.
i thought it would be more interesting each episode but the more i watched the more i was underwhelmed, annoyed and just confused. the ending is such a confusing thing to think about, like everything within the last 5 episodes is just a mess i dont dislike toradora because of taiga or any specific character, i just simply did not like anything about it
Anyone who thinks this way about taiga obviously hasnt watched the whole show, they would end up figuring out why taiga was acting this way. As well as seeing all the wonderful character development she gets throughout the series. YES she is extremely unlikable throughout half the season, but she changes, and thats the point where most people start to say they like her. Im just gonna say... if you're thinking about watching ToraDora, DO NOT LISTEN TO WHAT THIS GUY SAYS IN HIS REVIEW, instead, if you really want to watch a review video watch one that doesn't blatantly ignore character development, and really most things good about the anime. It's almost like this guy skipped around, watched random ass scenes, and put together a shitty review and acts like he knows what he's talking about.
I watched the entire show last week, and I agree with everything he said. I'd heard good things, so I was expecting something at least decent, but this show managed to somehow be boring, bland, cliché and annoying all at once. If you liked it I'm happy for you, but I honestly can't think of an anime romance I liked less except vague memories of absolutely hating Clannad or whatever it's called.

Calling Ryuji a “tipical blind romance protagonist” and Minorin an one dimentional character proves that you most probably fully watched only the first 5-7 episodes, then you gave up because you didn’t like the so called “agressive” and “selfish” manner of Taiga, which is funny because after the first 3 episodes That’s not even serios “abuse” it’s rather just her messing around with Ryuji in the way that she knows the best (I mean what would you expect from a person with such a past like Taiga’s?) and she literally wanted to combine Ryuji with Minorin even tho she already loved Ryuji more than Kitamura BUT, she wasn’t sure if he felt the same for her, not at all, so she denied her own feelings in the favor of her friend, even after she knew that Ryuji had feelings for her too. It’s even funnier how someone can have SO MANY bad takes and misunderstandings of the plot in a video That’s only 11 minutes long. I would’ve apriciated the review if it had some serious takes, but just straight up calling Toradora “The worst romance anime” based on some factualy wrong opinions is hilarious and sad at the same time
I'm a big fan of romance, so I decided to give Toradora a try a few days ago. And oh boy such a waste of time it was! My problem isn't with Taiga, yeah I admit she did made me feel upset sometimes, she could be more mature. But what drove me insane is the fact that there is almost no romance in this anime at all! It's just a bunch of teenagers who can't manage to say "I like you". By the end of the anime, there just a little romance between Taiga and the MC, when they finally admit they like each other, wow, finally, after 24 freaking episodes. It's trash, hot garbage. This anime is the perfect definition of beating around the bush

It still baffles me to this day how much people praise this series to the point of calling it one of if not the best romance anime ever, when there are so many better ones out there (even outside of anime). Tiaga is a fantastically written character. The christmas scene is her putting what she thinks Ryuji wants over what she wants/ needs. Ryuji was looking at a fantasy not seeing whats infront of him this whole time. Same with Tiaga, untill she broke down crying after pushing him out and ran after him. They didnt fall inlove in the last 3 episodes. They have loved eachother, but havent realized it. Tiaga realized it first when she was about to give Ryuji up. You dont understand this show.
Some random boy said "nah, he only looks scary but he's nice" in the first episode, and that solved 99% of that issue. Shame too, cuz that could actually have been an interesting plotline, but they just sort of forgot about it for most of the show after that.

Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with a character being annoying and unlikeable, if it serves the story properly. If Taiga had influenced the plot or characters in an intesting way, or if her character arc had been satisfying to me, I wouldn't have a problem with her. That didn't happen though, and when combined with the bland main character, the unfunny comedy, the incredibly predictable romance and the melodramatic final episodes, the outcome was that I was bored and annoyed throughout most of the episodes, and relieved once it was over. As for Ami, she was like all the other characters in this show; intriguing premise but poor execution. I was looking forward to seeing her struggle between keeping up her super-nice mask or being her bitchy self, but like every other interesting idea this show just sort of abandoned it partway, and she just settled into some kind of middle ground without getting called out for it by her classmates.

There are tons of tsunderes that are written so much better than her. She is a spoiled brat who needs a parental figure in her life and finds a very passive father figure in Ryuugi who is too timid to push back even in the slightest. Their "romance" was so awkward and uncomfortable

Shes not really a tsundere since she doesn’t even like ryuji for most of the show and when she realizes that she does they pretty quickly get together. She is definitely abusive at the beginning of the show, but thats because of how she was raised(not defending the actions btw just the character; she is well written imo). Her constant family drama has taught her that she can’t really rely on or trust anyone and so when ryuji does try and care for her she lashes out. Now even saying all this, I still wouldn’t like the character if she was like this the whole time. However, after like 3 episodes, she and ryuji become really close and she she begins to care about him immensely. She still sometimes hits him, but at this point its clear that its more of a show of affection as opposed to anything else.

How do you people not understand comedic violence is not the same as actual/dramatic violence? It's like Looney tunes. Ryuuji is never actually hurt. It's purely for comedic effect. If you don't find it funny, that's ok, but it's clearly not an actual abusive relationship. It's a common anime trope that doesn't actually represent real violence. Taiga is clearly shown to care about others more than herself, and those calling her an abuser are just confused and don't understand the concept of slapstick.

ToroDora may be a Comedy but it’s Drama with a Romance that supports the main plot which is about The characters and how they all put on mask to hide their true feelings is definitely the main topic for the show Taiga may not be the best person ever but to say she has no good moments with Ryuji is baffling. You got simple moments the couch scene during their vacation where she describes how she comfortable around him or the Santa scene where Ryuji goes out of his way to make sure she not alone on Christmas.
It's understandable how if you never liked Taiga's personality and knew who liked who you wouldn't like it at all. But calling it the worst is a big claim.

the original light novels are pretty similar, but there is a lot more characterization of all of the characters, particularly ami and minori. They definitely are the definitive way to experience the story, as they have a lot of stuff that gets left out in the anime.
I think Taiga kinda aged poorly as a character. We've mostly moved on from the overly violent tsundere trope (which was frankly a bit played out even when Toradora aired) so she comes off as just really weird. Lots of people irl have bad family situations but don't go around beating up everyone in sight.
I don't mind a tsundere if it's either comedic or she has something else going on, but Taiga was just plain annoying. I tried watching the show back in the day, and I gave up after the first episode or two because she was so unlikeable. I definitely hadn't seen a bunch of tsunderes at that point.
Taiga aisaka is always angry for no reason, and people are normalizing toxicity and abuse. Even if someone has issues that doesn’t give anyone the right to hit another person for no reason and taiga hits the MC several times a day and that is abusive. If someone irl did the things taiga was doing most likely, they’d be in jail. Abuse or violent acts isn’t cute, it’s wrong and not something to be romanticized. I swear the MC has to be a masochist.
Toradora isn t a story that simply focus on romance, is mainly about a lot of childish decisions made by high schoolers on a romantic background.
Ami Kawashima is supposed to be the most complete character cause her arc was over as soon as the stalker left, her role is to call the other mcs on their childish bs.
I fail to see how the story has no plot since it just keeps on addressing teen-like situations and show how kids take bad decisions before eventually arriving at the right answer for them.

The only thing this anime has is good animation. Some people think good animation = great show and completely turn off their brains when actually watching it.
Taiga is the most insuffreable, abusive brat there is and she's romanticized to be "oh no poor taiga these stuff happened, now pity her". Everytime she physically abuses Ryuji it's treated like comedy and "haha man gets hit lol" (as if men getting abused was funny in the slightest), and she emotionally abuses and manipulates everyone around her constantly too. But oh, whenever something, even a minor or VERY understandable thing happens to her, THEN the entire show's tone change dramatically to make her a poor victim of the situation! She never changes, or gets any character development and the show only justifies her actions. She can fuck everyone else's lives, but when something doesn't go as she likes, it's the end of the world.
Honestly, if it was just any bad show it wouldn't stand out because crappy romances (with romantization of abusive and toxic characters) are sadly really common and unremarkable. But this anime is praised on so much and called a "masterpiece" or what have you, it's really worrying that THIS is the "PEAK ROMANCE" people think about. The biggest flaw with this series that everyone keeps overlooking: how all the side characters dictate who the main characters should like. Both MC's have their initial crushes whom they try to approach but NOPE - those characters says no and decide that the MC"s are meant for each other instead whilst also using their own little pathetic problems as excuses. And what is worse, the MC's are not allowed to make any other decisions for themselves but are practically forced together for the mere convenience of the said side characters.
Yeah, the whole "I like but I know my best friend needs you more so I'm gonna hide my feelings forever" would have a lot more weight to it if she'd actually been telling the truth about never having been in love, and fallen for him after that when there was reason to suspect that he subconsciously liked Taiga. Having her be in love with him from the beginning and immediately making that decision was incredibly stupid and unrealistic. A sane person would have joined forces with her crush to help Taiga together, instead of keeping her distance and letting them stumble blindly from one disaster to the next without her help, in the hope that they fell in love with eachother before one of them ended up dead or mentally ill...
Bro acknowledged Ami's character development but just completely ignores Taiga's character development throughout the whole show like what? Oh and here's the definition of tsundere. I guess we just never see her have a warmer friendlier side. I understand her calling Ryuji a dog and breaking into his house is crazy, but saying she's the worst part of the whole show is being a little dramatic. I don't think you realize that the stuff she does for him is crazy. She was willing to let Ryuji the person she loves be with her best friend. Taiga constantly tries to help Ryuji get with Minori completely ready to get rid of all of her feelings for him so they can both be happy together while she sacrifices herself. Taiga literally has no one her mom left, and her dad is a piece of garbage I think she just doesn't really properly know what to do with friendly emotions because she quite literally was all alone all her life. Now lets get to Ryuji. Saying he is the "Most typical romance protagonist ever" is taking it too far. His dad was also probably a piece of garbage, everyone was always afraid of him because he looks scary, but Yūsaku Ryuji's best friend saw that he was just more than just a scary face but an actually human being. Ryuji likes to cook and clean and take care of his mom and just is generally a nice person and someone to be around. Listen I could go on and on but how your just wrong but it would take to long.

I'm pretty sure 90% of this show's fans have never been in a relationship with someone like Taiga. It's awful. It's torturous. It causes deep emotional and sometimes physical trauma that takes years of therapy to overcome. Whether the writers meant for it to be slapstick or not, Taiga's physical and verbal treatment of Ryuji is still abusive. It should not be praised. Imagine the nuclear fallout if an anime/manga released that was just Toradora, but with Ryuji and Taiga's genders swapped.

I would have rated this show perfectly ten years ago upon first watching. After rewatching just recently it would be much lower. It’s hard to like a show where the leads are so bland and have little self-reflection. The drama at the end is too forced and feels unnatural.

Anyone who thinks this way about taiga obviously hasnt watched the whole show, they would end up figuring out why taiga was acting this way. As well as seeing all the wonderful character development she gets throughout the series. YES she is extremely unlikable throughout half the season, but she changes, and thats the point where most people start to say they like her.

I watched the entire show last week, and I agree with everything he said. I'd heard good things, so I was expecting something at least decent, but this show managed to somehow be boring, bland, cliché and annoying all at once.

Calling Ryuji a “tipical blind romance protagonist” and Minorin an one dimentional character proves that you most probably fully watched only the first 5-7 episodes, then you gave up because you didn’t like the so called “agressive” and “selfish” manner of Taiga, which is funny because after the first 3 episodes That’s not even serios “abuse” it’s rather just her messing around with Ryuji in the way that she knows the best (I mean what would you expect from a person with such a past like Taiga’s?) and she literally wanted to combine Ryuji with Minorin even tho she already loved Ryuji more than Kitamura BUT, she wasn’t sure if he felt the same for her, not at all, so she denied her own feelings in the favor of her friend, even after she knew that Ryuji had feelings for her too. I'm a big fan of romance, so I decided to give Toradora a try a few days ago. And oh boy such a waste of time it was! My problem isn't with Taiga, yeah I admit she did made me feel upset sometimes, she could be more mature. But what drove me insane is the fact that there is almost no romance in this anime at all! It's just a bunch of teenagers who can't manage to say "I like you". By the end of the anime, there just a little romance between Taiga and the MC, when they finally admit they like each other, wow, finally, after 24 freaking episodes. It's trash, hot garbage.

It sounds like this guy only watched the first half of the show, and then read a summary for the last half.
It still baffles me to this day how much people praise this series to the point of calling it one of if not the best romance anime ever, when there are so many better ones out there (even outside of anime). For me this series is a text book definition of how not to do a good romance and is quite possibly the worst love story I have ever seen in my life, and I don’t care how much backlash I’m going to got from this.

Bro finally a voice for the minority, this show is mid at best but its really just sooooo bad. Are there objectively worse anime rom-coms like Rent A Girlfirend? Yes absolutely but this show shouldnt have gotten the fame it did/has not by a long shot.

You dont understand this and are mad that for comedic effect she hits people, wial leaving out that she cares deeply for her friends and cannot express herself at the start of the show. Everyone looked at Ryuji like he waa scary. Tiaga told everyone off told them how nice he is to get him accepted by people. You made this to get clicks on your trash video. The show is deep with character development. Everyones trying to save face and hold up a facade untill the end where they come tumbling down. You know who never had walls up? Taiga and Ryuji. They knew each other on a deeper level. Theyre always around each other. They dont need to act a certain way. They can be themselves and accept each other how they are. Thats beautiful. Tiaga is a fantastically written character. The christmas scene is her putting what she thinks Ryuji wants over what she wants/ needs. Ryuji was looking at a fantasy not seeing whats infront of him this whole time. Same with Tiaga, untill she broke down crying after pushing him out and ran after him. They didnt fall inlove in the last 3 episodes. They have loved eachother, but havent realized it. Tiaga realized it first when she was about to give Ryuji up.

Some random boy said "nah, he only looks scary but he's nice" in the first episode, and that solved 99% of that issue. Shame too, cuz that could actually have been an interesting plotline, but they just sort of forgot about it for most of the show after that.

Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with a character being annoying and unlikeable, if it serves the story properly. If Taiga had influenced the plot or characters in an intesting way, or if her character arc had been satisfying to me, I wouldn't have a problem with her. That didn't happen though, and when combined with the bland main character, the unfunny comedy, the incredibly predictable romance and the melodramatic final episodes, the outcome was that I was bored and annoyed throughout most of the episodes, and relieved once it was over.
As for Ami, she was like all the other characters in this show; intriguing premise but poor execution. I was looking forward to seeing her struggle between keeping up her super-nice mask or being her bitchy self, but like every other interesting idea this show just sort of abandoned it partway, and she just settled into some kind of middle ground without getting called out for it by her classmates.
You nail exactly why this was a terrible anime. Thank you! I never understood the hype around it

Just binged the entire show last week and I couldn't agree more with you. Collossal waste of time, and I genuinely feel it was written by someone who doesn't understand human emotions or interactions. Now, a spin-off show featuring the side characters conspiring to make the main characters fall in love with eachother so nobody else has to deal with them, that I'd watch! 😉

Toradora is a great romcom, don't let this guy turn you off from it. Just because he doesn't like it doesn't mean nobody else can or should. There's quite a lot to like about it. Give it a shot and make up your own mind
