    Going after winter time trout is as Texas as wade fishing, corkys, brisket, and buccees.

    Thanks for the info Cap. CA, I was wondering if you are able to share which color code that "Gringo" is... I am having a hard time finding it on Mirrolure site. Thanks again buddy, love the channel.

      Gringo is considered a custom color. In Texas we get a lot of regional specific stuff that's spreading out now. The Jay Watkins Double D, Custom Corkys, Custom softdines and XLs....
      Gringo is really just white. Hence the name Gringo. The Double D gets worked differently than a typical 17 or 27 mr.. They slow float, not sink and are used as a 0-1 foot subsurface walker/twitch.

    Recently I got the Skinny Lipper and the Moonwalker from Salt Strong and they've got single inline hooks. I haven't had any bites on the Skinny Lipper yet and just got the Moonwalker last night. I plan on trying them around the bridges for stripers in the Chesapeake and maybe a redfish or trout will hit them too. The single inline hook thing is new to me but I hope they work out because they've got to be better for fish I want to release.

      The inline hooks will work it’s just about adjusting to the thicker wire hooks and the fewer points of contact to the fish (2 points instead of 6 points). But better on the fish overall. Another suggestion would be to bend down the barbs on your treble hooks… it works very well and the fish have an easier release.

    Wheels turning in my head, see no reason why this wouldn’t work for freshwater bass fishing.

      They definitely work. really like the skins series in particular as well. And the double d is also really killer for bass. Think a floating jerk bait but with a wider flash. Speaking from experience you’ll get a lot of strange looks throwing them from the bass guys lol

    Great channel. Learn tons about fishing. Roy’s Bait and Tackle in Corpus Christi, Texas offers tons of custom Corkies, Double D’s and their custom Down South paddle tails are amazing.

    HACK: Hook Saver If you guys are using the Mustads as the Capt suggests many do just drop them in some diluted Salts Gone and rinse when you get home.. I do it with all of my gear..

    what’s your preferred flouro line for spinning reals?
    Yesterday while fishing both my Flouro reels screwed be over sorta speak..

    • @flatsclasscharters
      @flatsclasscharters 9 місяців тому

      Pat- you will find 10lb or lighter fluoro works best on spinning gear. Also do not fill spool to lip like you do with braid. Leave about 3/16” of spool lip showing… that should mitigate problems

    C.A could you touch on adding stick on adhesive lead to hard baits. I’ve played with the 27 adding stick on weights to increase sink rate when the 28 sinks a little to fast. Still trying to figure out best placement of the weights but I’ve also heard bass guys wrapping soldering wire to the hook shanks too

    I’ve recently swapped all my mirrodine treble hooks to inline singles due to losing too many trout on the stock trebles when they pull or straighten out. I am usually throwing mirrodines in water 10-20’ so not worried about sinking too fast. Do you agree with using strictly in-line singles for big specks in deep water?

    • @flatsclasscharters
      @flatsclasscharters 9 місяців тому +1

      Colby- you may have to lighten the tip action on your rods if you’re bending out trebles. Moderate Fast tips work good for treble hook lures… good question

    You said to use fluorocarbon Leader especially this time of the year. However, you didn't indicate why?
    I've seen underwater video of trout being caught on Salt Strong with 20 pound blue Seaguar and it looked on the video like it was a piece of rope! Still not sure about underwater visibility comparing mono versus fluorocarbon. Thanks.

    • @flatsclasscharters
      @flatsclasscharters 9 місяців тому

      Higher quality fluorocarbon is for sure less visible than monofilament leader
