Karyna, I purchased this as soon as it became available; admittedly, I am a Pelikan nut, & to date own over fifty models from the 1930's thru' to present day. Special Edition or not, this particular Tortoiseshell is striking, aesthetically; I too own the EF nib for this model, but I'm fortunate enough to write with any nib width with ease; fundamentally, Pelikan haven't altered their design for the Souveran at all - the earlier models - 100, 100N, 100NN have more curvilinear cap & piston ends, & the piston-filling mechanism remains a constant, thankfully. I have read comments whereupon some purchasers experience 'baby's bottom' with the more modern contemporary pieces; personally, never experienced such, & I'm not really fond of glassy smooth nibs - a preference for a degree of feedback is always welcome. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this beautiful writing instrument !!
Congrats on the m605!!! Absolutely beautiful and amazed at how thick their EF’s are compared to other EF nibs! Gorgeous…
Thanks Liane! I wasn't sure if I would like it with my small writing but I love the thicker line!
Oh my goodness it's gorgeous!!! Mine is still in the preorder phase with Endless Pens. Can't wait to get it!
So exciting!
This is the most beautiful pen! I think this is my favorite version of the classic Pelikan look (well, it’s hard to beat that classic green stripe) but I can understand how impossible it would be to pass this up! I hope you’re enjoying it to this day (or, if not, have passed it along to someone who will love it.) I’ve enjoyed watching your videos as they’ve regularly popped up into my feed as I’ve come back to my love for fountain pens after seeing all the amazing inks…not just the same ol’ boring black/blue/green/red that was mostly what I knew to be available back in the day. (I think I’m in love with getting new inks more than getting pens!! At least that’s less expensive 🤣) But, that pen is stunning. It’s so unfortunate that gold prices have gotten so high that the nibs alone are costing hundreds of dollars at this point, making most of these pens out of people’s reach right now. But, it will change, and there are plenty of pens to enjoy. Thank you for showing the amazing pens and inks in such a beautiful way. I love your voice, you’re relaxing to listen to!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I have since passed this on to a fellow fountain pen friend who is appreciating it much more than I did. I found the M600 size a bit too small for me.
I love your flock too! I’m getting a 140, thanks to your video! I would love to have a new pelikan in the future, it’s definitely a grail pen for sure!!!
I have a flock!!! And yes, the 140 is a good lower cost place to start with the Pelikan. I love mine!
Wow!!!! That's a very pretty pen! Love the black tortise!!! I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! When you move back to Edmonton, we can show off fountain pen collections!!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan OMG! That sounds like so much fun! ...guess I better buy a few more! 😔
@@mrbjengel nah you don’t need to! Just show off what you have. I have two other friends also in the hobby and they have similar collections to you!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan You know as much as I do if we say we're not going to buy one, we probably will anyways! 🤷♂️🤦
Wow! Will definitely be picking one up from CultPens if I decide to get one! Great video :)
Both the Pelikan look fantastic!
Great video and congratulations 🎉🍾🎊🎈! Like you, I purchased my Platinum 3776 Century LE Shape of Heart from Cult Pens and my Lamy Dialog CC Blue from Appleboom. Their prices where cheaper than the US retailers plus discounts so it was well worth the purchase. I have a few Pelikans including one vintage and love the little flocks as well. Thank you for sharing.
Ooh that Shape of Heart is gorgeous and yes, CultPens is definitely cheaper for certain brands than a lot of US retailers. Which Pelikans do you have? And which is your favourite?
@@KarynaLovesToPlan I have the Classic SE 205 Olivine and the Star Ruby . Also, my vintage Green & Black M400 . I love of them however, the M400 is the best because the nib has some bounce to it like my Pilot nibs. Love your content and handwriting 💜💜💜
That is such a great contrast; white and gold, black and silver. I have the M400 Tortoiseshell White. It's currently inked too. I think as we get more comfortable with fountain pen variety, people start to really enjoy girthier and heavier pens, because most ballpoint are just twigs. It's something everyone needs to learn from the beginning, because then we start to like these other pens that are much more comfortable. Problem is these pens are more expensive, and we feel bad because like you, we have already acquired so many pens up to that point. I don't specifically set out to buy a SE or LE, because there will always be another SE and LE coming out. Instead if I like a pen, it must fit certain parameters so that I will actually use the pen.
You are so right about the fountain pen journey - I do like heavier, girthier pens now. And again you are right about SE or LE - there is always a new edition of a pen coming out, and I'm learning not to be swayed by all that is new!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Aren't they way more comfortable? Try the Faber-Castell E-Motion. It's chunk and the pen w/out the cap is like 33g. And, Faber-Castell's nibs are some of the best steel nibs out there. It also comes in nice finishes; wood, guilloche patterns. I myself have the ivory croc pattern. I love it. I only wish the nib was a #6 nib. I am also liking a larger gap between the paper and where I hold the pen. So now a #6 nib is part of my parameters. Have you seen Leonardo? They drop a new version or LE every week.
Completely agree with you about the beauty and elegance of this Pelikan. So much so that I’m close to adding the matching ballpoint to my cart (!). And you’re very right : in five years you’d regret not getting it. Please let us know which ink you decided to use. Enjoy this beautiful M605 for many years ! Very nice review !💯
Thanks for watching!!
Of all the Pelikan pens at Cult pens, I like the M405 white silver, M605 Stresemam Anthracite, the M805 Stresemam Anthracite, M405 tortoise, but your M605 tortoise special edition is the best looking of the lot.
Wow
Yes CultPens has a great selection and a lower price on their Pelikans. And they shop to Canada so quickly!! I am waiting for a special edition M800 to finish off the Pelikan collection!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan i will wait until you have evaluated all three before making my own decision.
Hah, you take all the risks and I get to learn from your experiences.
It is hard to be patient, but better waiting, than making a several hundred dollar mistake.
Maybe you can do a comparison video when you have assessed all three models.
Oh Karyna, your timing is excellent as usual! I was just unboxing and inking up my new Vanishing Points when I saw your video was up, so I watched it as I played and it was like we were geeking out together! (Which is nice because I don't have any other FP friends yet.)
I think I'm going to keep both my new-to-me VPs... before I got them, I entertained the idea of selling one off immediately, but I don't think that's in the cards. They're such joys to write with! I ended up putting Herbin Cacao du Bresil in my Gunmetal one and my Blue Carbonesque is currently soaking out the black ink its previous user had in it, but I'm not at all sure what to pick for it... Such fun decisions to make!
Like you, I'm done buying for a while! For real this time! How do we make that happen?
Yay that we got to geek out together! 😂 As for stopping buying pens for a while.. I am the worst person to ask. I already have a list of on my Wishlist, but I know I need to save up for them. I think it helps having a Wishlist so I keep to that rather than just buying whatever. Also, maybe set a time for how long you take to get to know your pens before you buy a new one!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan :)
Looking forward to your collection video! I'd love to hear why you bought each one and why you keep it. (Since I know you sell off some of them)
Vintage Pelikan fountain pens with flex nibs are lovely. I have several M800 models and they have a bit more girth than the M600 models, but they are still a treat to use.
I do eventually want an M800 - another one to save up for. And I do love my 140 - so fun to use that flex nib!
I have the green M400 in F and I love it. writing with a fountain pen is just a completely different feeling than with a ballpoint pen. In addition, the handwriting also improves because you cannot write sloppily with a fountain pen.
Hey Karyna. I just received my M400 and it's the same packaging so it's their updated packaging 😉
Good to know! Thank you!
I bought the same pen with EF nib too can't wait for mine to arrive. I have a fine nib on the white tortoise shell M400 which was too wide for a fine nib. So happy to see the EF nib is fine and smooth
Yay! So exciting! I find the EF nib so wet and just as broad as I can go!
What a beautiful pen! Enjoy!
Thank you!!
Gorgeous addition! If you don't grab now, you will regret for sure. After market price of the Pelikan special editions just sky rocket. 🤑🤑
Parabéns pelas lindas canetas. Acho as canetas Pelikan muito bonitas. Você poderia me dizer se a ponta M600 se encaixa no M400?
Hello! I just tried it and it does seem to fit. But don't quote me on that!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Perfect! managed to close the lid of the M400 with the tip of the M600?
Sorry to bother you, I just need to know, because I have a pelikan M200 Smoky quartz, and I know that the M400 nib fits perfectly in the M200, as they have the same dimensions. However, I would like to buy the M600 tip, as the nib is a little wider than the M400, which I think is very beautiful
@@fernandogabriel4048 yes it should be lose. The nib is only slightly bigger on the M600.
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Thanks a lot for helping me, I'm going to buy the M600 tip
That sure is pretty!
Btw, you can get a great pocket scale at Amazon for around $12. They're great for weighing small things, like fountain pens.😊
Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for posting this interesting video of a very beautiful pen, but I am concerned to read and hear that the body of the pen is not transparent. It is therefore not possible to see how much ink is left in the reservoir. Do you find this a drawback?
After having used this pen, it does bug me a bit that I can't see the ink level. But someone did recommend to weigh the pen before inking, then weighing it after, and comparing the weights as you use the pen. It's not a complete deal breaker for me, but it is a drawback.
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Many thanks for this quick reply to my question! Some time ago, I bought the M600 Red Tortoiseshell, which is a lovely writing instrument, but is completely opaque in body. It is indeed a drawback that one can't tell the remaining ink level in these pens, and I regret Pelikan did not at least provide an ink window (as it did with an earlier M600 Black which I also own). I will have to think carefully whether I should buy this new black version. It is gorgeous and no doubt writes beautifully but, as I own quite a lot of Pelikan M600s, perhaps I should 'abstain'. Many thanks once again for the reply and information!
Your videos have me wanting to try fountain pens. What would you recommend that I try if I prefer slim pens with a cushion pad grip and a fine point llike Sarasa gel pens .5mm or the Uniball Signo micro 207 .38mm?
I don’t know of any fountain pens that have a cushion pad grip, but for starter pens, I highly recommend the Pilot Kakuno in a Fine or Extra Fine nib. I also recommend the Lamy Safari with an EF nib. Those are two I would start with!
@@KarynaLovesToPlan Thank you! I appreciate it! 😃
My go to gel pen is the Energel 0.3 mm and for that my Kakuno EF was the right equivalent. For a 0.5 mm gel pen, I'd probably recommend the Kakuno F, instead. Both write lovely, thin lines! :)
(If you want a direct comparison to the Energel, I have one on my channel from a couple weeks ago when I fell down this rabbit hole thanks to Karyna)
@@KatiesCraftStudio 😆😆Thank you! I’ll definitely check out your video. 🌺
Extra fine. No thanks.
@@ELECTRONICSANDGADGETS glad it was my choice to get EF and not yours!
