Hi-Fi Rush Soundtrack - Rekka Boss Music (Flaming Lips - Free Radicals Elsinore Cover)

- This is the boss music that plays during the bossfight with Rekka. The original song was produced by The Flaming Lips, but Elsinore covered it for the version you hear ingame.
This was created using files stitched together from the game, including the cutscene bits. Keep in mind the bridge to Verse 2 has two versions - one of which plays when you're on any difficulty Hard or above (I think). It's essentially the same, but with an extra note to the guitar solo to correspond to Rekka throwing more pipes. This video uses the hard+ version.
This video, if not taken down by copyright ID or something, will be deleted if/when the music is added to streaming services. I'm only uploading this because they haven't released the track yet.

Had a chat with the director about why he did a cover instead of the original. His response: The issue with the original was working with the game. During the verses it has times where the beat “drops out” which we were worried would be a problem for players to identify the beat. Really wanted the song in there so we opted to cover it so we could add in the “claps”
This song is far superior compared to the one they made for the game these fights where built with the copyrighted music in mind
Sounds like a problem that would be easily fixed by adding a clap track.
I rather think a mechanical license was much cheaper than getting a full usage one. Mechanical license allows people to sell their covers.
Even worse if they wanted to ask for the stems.
Those costs can range from 50k to millions.
While a mechanical license is a few cents to a few bucks.
@@WesmoenI believe the clapping in the original song we're done on separate stems and it would have been a pain in the ass to reassemble those stems to incorporate in the game's data

Guitar hero and Rockband games had overlap issues as well. Made charting and sound syncing harder to do.
Especially with older pre-digital songs.
This song is better, but both are great.
Playing this game on Very Hard was the best decision of my life, I've felt every beat during this fight
This is the first game I've ever played in Very Hard and it's really fun It's not stupid hard like other games
Especially since Rekha beat you in time
Playing the game in normal for the second time on a new file I managed to play the entire game getting a ranks and b ranks and almost not dying but the second last boss gets me everytime
I usually felt said beat in my jaw
All it's missing is the "CLANG! CLANG!" from her fists in the intro. If it had those.... whoo boy.

i love how this gets you so unapolagetically hyped just like every other song, but it's something about the claps that make you so much more hyped
For me part of it was definitely the lead in cutscene having her fist bumps timed to the guitar.
It really makes it feel like a wrestling match
@Triforce of Doom This. The repeated use of the two beats prior to the actual fight are just all build up. And the payoff is amazing.
@@ProfessorHeavy1 what I really love is how they had her also do it for some of the buildup to fighting QA-1MIL so it's an established character quirk that they use for her actual fight's buildup.

So interesting how this particular song seems like it's talking about Chai and how his teammates might find him annoying, stupid and pompous. But it can also be talking about Rekka's relationship with her coworkers and how they view her as a general headache to deal with and perhaps incompetent at her job.
I'd say it also applies to how obsessed he is with becoming a rockstar, but can't even sing or play.
He's pure fanaticism.
actually the song itself is about a musician talking down a suicide bomber but i dont doubt the developers picked it for other reasons

You know what I like about this game's bosses?
The sudden mechanic changes throughout.
Like the pipe throwing section in this one, i was like "OH SHIT HERE WE GO!"
just noticed her robot hands are painted at the tips. She paints her fingernails pink!
It’s attention to detail like that which makes great character design. Good eye for details!
This feels like the Wizen of Hi-Fi RUSH. The game was already a blast, but then this boss shows up and you know just how amazing it is.
This fight just feels so in sync with the music. I know everything is, but her attacks, with my dodges into combos, were almost in perfect time with the guitar riffs, moving and fighting just was so easy to get into a rhythm with this.
It's really satisfying to play this game. It's like a dynamic quick time event that actually challenges you, but also telegraphs what to do, so you don't have to think too hard or plan or strategize. You just gotta pay attention, loosen up, and feel the rhythm. It's as relaxing as it is exhilarating!

There is a Taiwanese wrestler who goes by the name Rekka who might be the inspiration too.
There's so many meanings to her names
Some says Rekka is like a pun of a Wrecker or Rekka in Japanese means raging fire
Most characters are named after foods and drinks. Rekka is a kind of spicy ramen.
On that topic:
Chai - tea flavor
Peppermint - tea flavor too
Macaroon - confectionary good with tea. Also a tea flavor.
CNMN - tea flavor again.
Rekka - a spicy ramen.
Zanzo - Sanzo brand sparkling water since he also has his own brand energy drink.
Korsica- Corsican pear spice, which pairs well with tea as an additive.
Mimosa - cocktail of champagne and citrus juices.
Roquefort - an expensive bleu cheese, considered the best kind of bleu cheese.
Kale - a vegetable.

I just beat this boss yesterday live on Twitch, this game is just such an amazing experience...magic is the only word I can call it that feels right.

QA 1Mil was a great fight with a great track to boot.
But this fight paired with this song set the tone for the ENTIRE game. I wanna play this fight for the first time again.
I prefer the nine inch nails song way more but in general the copyrighted music is superior compared to the streamer friendly music and a majority of the battles surround the copyrighted music the ost songs just feel out of place

I wish we got to spend a bit more time with Rekka’s character we really didn’t get to flesh out her character that much.
We just need the combat beats added in as well, nothing feels good then landing a heavy hit combo and hearing your guitar blasting its amazing beat with the music

Thanks for stitching the files! I'd like to ask, how did you get the music files? I only managed to extract sfx and dialogues...
When you extract the pak, you'll get a handful of unsorted .wem files as well as some .bnk files which should just be archives full of .wems.
If I recall correctly, there are a bunch of .bnk files named Music_ST##.bnk where the ## is the number of the stage. You can use foobar2000 with the vgmstream plugin to extract the .wems out of the .bnk archives.

No, the only difference is the Verse 2 Bridge at 02:57 having extra notes added to it.
This boss OST went so hard, it was disappointing it didn't get topped for the rest of the game IMO.

Not quite as hype as Captive Normals, but it's got this delightful charm about it that juxtaposes well with Rekka's combat. Especially at the bridge.
It works. It's great! It's just not nearly as good as Captive Normals.
Captive Normals is one of the best video game OST's I've ever heard. Big shoes to fill. Anything sounds bad in comparison. This got me hyped when I first played the game. I still hum "YOU think your RADICAL, YOUR NOT- SO- RADICAL!" sometimes.
