Yeah honestly the other streamer mode songs aren't bad... But this is probably the only song I prefer over the licensed track. Something about the emotion of both the lyrics and the beat
I legitimately love the contrast between this song and the licensed song Licensed song: Free Radicals - in the context of HFR, the lyrics are from the perspective of Rekka as she's talking down Chai - in her eyes, he thinks he's going to be a "radical" rockstar in the future and the protagonist of his own story, but in reality he's just some rash, geeky idiot that's fanatical to the point of thinking he can take her on after beating QA-1MIL, with nothing more than a defective power core and a robotic arm designed to pick up garbage. He wouldn't have gotten far at all without the support he has in the form of 808/Peppermint - she's the voice of reason that he sorely lacks. Streamer Mode song: Captive Normals - in as many ways as possible, it's the antithesis of the licensed song, even down to the title. It's from the perspective of Chai, lashing out at Rekka, at the entirety of Vandelay for thinking he's just a defect, an error, a blip in the system that's easily dealt with and labeling him as such - he's here to prove that he does, in fact, mean something, and that Rekka's in over her head. All the while, he's not showing weakness, as shown by the lyrics saying that he "can't snap, won't snap", solidifying he's in here for the long haul and making a name for himself, refusing to comply with Vandelay due to their treatment of him and showing that he's done being their captive. As another commenter said before me, her defeat signifies the rise of a new rockstar, and the beginning of the end for Vandelay - it's when Chai sets his path in stone as a significant person in this story, the figurehead of the resistance, even if he doesn't know it for sure yet.

@@jacobkilby3533 the song’s name is also more fitting for Chai than Rekka (Chai is a normal socially inept music loving geek who is now being held captive at Vandalay because of an fuckup the corporation made, whereas Rekka is a radical boss who expects nothing but the best and strongest serving as his first roadblock to freedom).
@@stevencampbell348 Honestly I would go one step further with a theory that the reason Chai dropped out of college, was that he was being kept in a psyche ward as a depressed mentally unstable individual, mentally unstable about his delusions of becoming a rockstar, and depressed knowing his arm has always held him back from that dream. But he heard about Project armstrong and broke out of the psyche ward to get a robot arm to make his dream come true. The way he's so brash and unapologetically apathetic towards others, and ices the bosses without hesitation with a smile on his face goes a long way to suggesting this, combining that with the delusions in his mind of being on a stage, and the lyrics to this song which I think is about Chai.
@@jacobkilby3533 If Chai is a mentally unstable person with delusions of becoming a rockstar, who kills people with a smile, how bad is everyone else? There's Rekka, a texan wrestler who kills people labeled 'defects' if they simply sign an agreement. There's Zanzo (his insanity speaks for itself). There's Mimosa, an attention-craving diva who has no problem murdering someone in front of a crowd for her show. There's Roquefort, a finance-managing furry who will execute you to protect the company's profits and bottom line. There's Kale, a CEO who wants to (very directly) brainwash his customers to sell more products and removes anyone who gets in his way. And there's Peppermint, a trigger-happy rebel who has no problem pointing the barrel of a gun directly at someone's face. I would say Chai's brash attitude and delusions of rockstar grandeur aren't really as bad as any of this. Not to mention he's asked some of the bosses to hand over their spectra keys beforehand, meaning he likely doesn't want to kill some of them if he doesn't have to. In fact, most of the times his actions could count as self-defense, considering all of the bosses instigate the battles. I don't think his inner voice and his mind's stage count as too severe of a delusion either, and while he does make snarky comments sometimes, he is shown to care about the relationships he has with his friends, and attempts to support and relate to them when they appear to be depressed, (Spoilers? : Peppermint's family matters, and Macaron/Korsica's distaste towards the company) most notably during the mid/endgame cutscenes and dialogue interactions, meaning he's not completely and unapologetically apathetic towards everyone else. Therefore I rate Chai's overall insanity and mental instability a 2/10. Like around the same level as a teenager going through their delusional phase. I don't believe severe enough to be in a psyche ward.
@@tryingtoreachyouaboutyourc6161 I see, thats a fair point, but I would argue that many of the times he asked for the spectra pass key was purely to avoid needing to fight them given that a lot of the times he is ready to fight them before they have even met, such as with mimosa. and yes the board members are fairly insane, with their degrees of emotional depravity hitting an all time high, Rekka being fanaticism, Mimosa being egotism, Kale being controlling etc. but I do think that caring about your friends and emotional growth is still something capable of people with mental instabilities like who I think Chai is, and that is what spells the difference between Chai and the board heads, he lets people into his life, the others don't.

@@Johnsen290Games I disagree. I do find them pretty decent, but i also find they kill a bit of the charme, epicness / speciality of these Scenes and Bossfight. ua-cam.com/video/vfmDIm2ybmY/v-deo.html
I just realized the title is a play on "Free Radicals".
i literally can’t stop listening to this, all the tracks in this game are insane holy shit
"Captive Normals" instead of "Free Radicals" and its about a song of freedom instead of a song of opression.
Yeah playing with the original tracks instead of licensed is a must.
Rekka totally mains Potemkin.
Rekka command grabs with rekka command grabs
"Hebunri..... Rekka.... Bustah!!!"
Who would win, Rekka or Zanzo
@@sonataavalon6017 Zanzo if def either a Zato or a Bedman main (or maybe Leo, but Leo seems a bit too... normal, for Zanzo)
@@veryloudcat8839I think Zanzo a Happy Chaos mainer.
Como es que una canción puede ser tan buena y a la vez contar una historia... joder que buen juego
Reminds me of Metal Gear Rising. Similar gameplay, and all the boss themes are metal tracks with lyrics written about the respective person.
@@maxxbmd in this case, it’s pretty sad. Rekka must’ve been in some kind of insane asylum or something.
we need someone to lyrics all of HIFI RUSH original soundtracks!
Yeah!
Didn't understand this song very much until I had a mental break down because of a family member.
This is one of best boss battle songs of all time.
I agree, I think it will appear in a lot of "underrated game OST" lists and be remembered as a great theme as opposed to being the DMCA safe alternative.
I love that they titled this the exact opposite of the copyrighted song they got for this fight XD
I actually like this a lot more than Free Radicals.
So I guess the "Free Radicals at home" brand is actually preferred
I honestly think I might prefer this to Free Radicals. I think it's a large part because this has a "proper" chorus to it, and a good one musically. Free Radicals just feels kinda same-y throughout IMO.
Captive Normals is awesome
Okay, the Free Radicals cover is nice, but this just *SLAPS*
i've not played this game, yet, but i love this game's OST.
i played the game. it's great
Best game for the prologue of 2023
Not gonna lie, I actually like this more than the flaminglips track that plays when you're not in streamer mode.
Never played the game, but hearing this, i feel like we lost a real one.
NGL, I think this one's better than the licensed song
You disrespect me? That's it the gloves are coming off.(Taking off the gloves)
Yeah I can see that.
What was the plan for this again?
LET'S GET READY TO CRUMBLE
Really sad she didn't have more screen time
I love this game man😔
Music geek vs. CEO of Texas
NOT BAD... FOR A DEFECT
I don't believe it. They turned the Crazy Taxi menu theme into a boss theme.
I'm biding my time to go back to school and quit my job. This song resonates.
I don't know why, but the lyrics reminds me of the plot of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest".
Fuck, im gonna have to play this game again on streamer mode. Not that thats a problem. This game fucking rules.
I want a sequel so bad man.
Kale's heavy: "Let us wrestle, little man!"
Awesome guitar solo
This song is so fire just like Rekka
Rock live, baby
Unironically a BANGER
Nemora 🖤💚
evolves into
Rekka 🖤❤
Nah. Your just saying that because they look similar. 😄
This song's lyrics and tone give me a feeling that Rekka went into this fight hoping to "die with honor" if she lost.... I hope she got what she wanted.
Been lifting to this... It works well
Ya know what's funny, they didn't have a fucking ADVERTISEMENT boss. The one thing that would make kale's plan of mind control Needless.... instead he got 5 people killed
Isn't Mimosa the marketing and Advertisement?
@@guts-141 clearly she wasn't doing a great job, tbh.
@@jeremiahowens9999 that's kinda the joke tho, marketing pushing a celebrity persona more than advertising the actual product. Project armstrong was just about combining ANY tech with someone's body, like Chai's lame waste management arm. But, because mimosa was the face of the campaign and didn't mention the process could make you a garbage man and she's hot, she pulled in plenty of people
Are we 100% sure Zanzo and Roquefort are dead? I mean we saw Zanzo's body after the explosion (though that could have been an animation error), and Roquefort's one sturdy mother.
"You're down for the count big boss."
Ha, I get it. Free Radicals and Captive Normals
Tcha! Hey! Hey!
no no it's chanting Chai's name in between the heys
Nobody likes being told what to do, but these lyrics...just what did Chai go through before project armstrong...?
Wondering the same, but part of answers we actually get in every lyric video, for me most of it tells “I got this”
It almost feels like Chai’s past was kinda dark and his lately rebellious stage is just got fresh air to flame up with new powers.
"not gonna be anyone's captive". Proceeds to get captured by Korsica as a captive a couple missions later
❗🤜💥💥🤛❗
❗🤜💥💥🤛❗
Spoilers:
Ngl I'm kinda upset that Rekka just dies and then no one remembers her, i really liked her, she was really fun and her theme is just straight up fire (same goes with the rest of the bosses btw)
Its like my grandma says wen someone dies in a novela: she died? Thats lame.
My headcanon is that they can bring her, Mimosa, or Kale back at any time. I imagine they do so they can stand trial.
Considering that this game takes heavy inspiration form Scott Pilgrim, where people tend to explode into coins, I wouldn't say that the bosses died, more so defeated.
But then again, at track 10 they started hiring for a production head so maybe we really did commit murder. Or she was hospitalized and fired for losing, who knows.
in the museum you can hear something like "the rumors about the death of the department leads are fake, everything its under control" so yeah im pretty sure they all die
Not bad, FOR A DEFECT
Chai chai chai chai
#CaptiveNormals🎸💥👍🤘
Holy shit man. They had liscensed songs. They had music already for each boss. And then they MAKE songs like this that completely SHIT over the liscensed music. Holy shit, Holy fuck I cant.
It doesn't shit on it relax
@@silverreaps6803 everyone have different preferences, I thought they're both equally good but originals fit more and most agree, the one I disliked the most is the non-streamer mode of mimosa boss fight, the original slaps miles harder, licensed music felt a bit weak, not a problem on other bosses, just mimosa.
@@Johnsen290Games well I haven't got to mimosa yet, I just beat the 4th mission
@@silverreaps6803 prepare for it because it's an amazing boss especially with the original music
@@Johnsen290Games
I disagree. I do find them pretty decent, but i also find they kill a bit of the charme, epicness / speciality of these Scenes and Bossfight. It's a bit hard to explain but i find you clearly can tell, even if you don't know the "Songs" (like Free Radicals was a first timer to me, only Invaders Must Die i did know and well Wolfgant 5th but not that remix version) you clearly could differenate between them and the Game-Soundtrack Stuff, because well, the latter one really sounds like something made for a Game.
The thing about it is, that you have to deal with that type music, because it's a rythm game with a high emphasis an music, for a huge portion of the playtime. Everytime however licences music went in, which felt quite a bit differently, it added impact and spice to these scenes / bosses, and give more flavor to them. There is a synergy between licensed and game-soundtrack, and going to streamer-mode feels like you miss that because it would sound like another "gamey" type of song (even if they tried to capture a bit of the spirit of said licensed music).
I was so confused why these off brand remixes of the actual songs in the game were on the soundtrack until I remembered streamer mode is a thing
The lyrics talk about the matrix because they talk about red and blue pills

Reasons why Streamer Mode isn't just for streamers
❤❤❤😊love music hi -fi rush
probably the only track in the game that i prefer the unlicensed track to the original, they're all bangers but this one is just incredible
Rekka is a pro wrestler.

What’s the song for usual gameplay? (i.e. NOT streamer mode)
Pretty sure it’s the same
This and Korsica
@@loafuscranbrry8488 I was also curious and found a recording with it, it's actually Free Radicals, by Elsinore
It seems to be a cover of Free Radicals by The Flaming Lips made for the game
@@UncleGhiral THATS THE ONE! Thank you

SPOILERS FOR END OF THE BOSS FIGHT
SHE FUCKING _EXPLODED_ I FEEL HORRIBLE I didn't wanna kill her I really like her D:> My mouth was wide open the entire cutscene afterwards, and Chai getting her belt and showing it off broke my heart and rubbed in the fact that I just caused the death of a woman who was just doing her job
I know I shouldn't get attached and honestly I am, but OUCH GOD THAT _HURT_
A
I mean, she tried to kill you multiple times and reveled at the thought of your suffering, so I feel no pity for her
Eh, i dont feel sorry for the lady who thinks getting recalled equals killing him. Chai isnt a product nor a robot ffs.
Rekka's interesting as a villain tho, doesn't mean i have sympathy for her.
Bro, Bethesda published this game. If everyone at Bethesda suddenly died, I wouldn't care either. Fuck companies and fuck lying ones the most. Can't believe good devs are stuck having to use these abhorrent irl villains to publish a game nowadays.
@@BiBiren that’s fair, though there’s also the idea that she was an interesting villain that i wouldn’t mind keeping alive just to see how they develop. im kinda tired of redemption arcs but i think rekka could’ve been fun just to gawk at
Original music is always better than license music.
🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
I can see why some prefer this song, especially with how it relates to Rekka as a character, but for me personally, I prefer Free Radicals. I think the way its sung is more satisfying, but I won't deny how strong the chorus of this song is.
The Original soundtrack is a lot better than the licensed music for this game.
