NEXT VIDEO: "Why i switched from Kerri to Arri"
Bruh hahaha
Dead💀💀💀😂😂😂
Ahahahaha
FML 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well played!
Anyone else's heart brake when Gene said "this isn't a sponsored video"?
Was really hoping for an Arri Alexa LF give away 😞
🤣🤣
That would be like giving away a house
How much are they selling for and where can I buy one?
@@erskinhansen1715 I think they might be "rental only" right now from Arri. Kinda Like Panavision's whole lineup.
have you ever seen a sport car ads? think about the audience, the market.
Dancing women: Eats fire and is completely fine!
Me: Eats food from the microwave and can't handle the heat!
hahhaha this comment gave me a good laugh
Potato Jet: "Look at this completely random footage I recorded"
Everyone: "Oh cool some footage of the dogs again..."
3 seconds later...
Fire breathing victoria secret models dancing...
O_O
Drop an affiliate link for that camera. If one person buys it, you can get a new tesla!
True
the key to the Alexa's popularity is their concerted efforts to come as close as possible to the look of 'film'. The look of 'film' remains the go-to standard and the Alexa's color science best mimics that for the film industry.
Other UA-camr: It's all about 8k Red
Potatoes: Hold my mini Alexa
Peter and Potato are friends though...
Sorry for the assumption
Chris Parayno I’m sorry but the Arri is just so much better than the Red
Because RED cameras are cheaper, even if you have to sell a kidney for the proprietary and much needed accessories. Gene is smart and knows his stuff considering he is all about Arri cine cameras....but he ultimately shoots on a Canon, which obviously disqualifies the aforementioned sentence. Total fail...
But i'm ok with Sony.
@@Slesaint17 agreed
Arri: You wanna play with some of our cameras
PotatoJet: Say no more
Potato Jet during the video..."This is not sponsored at all... I've just been a big fan and super stoked to be working with them.."
Potato Jet planning the video... If I say a bunch of good stuff about Arri, maybe they'll let give me a free camera... It's worth a try!
"ACTION!"
This is my first video from you, and I love your attitude about filmmaking. While people will just generally say something smug like, "Why would you use an Arri Alexa for vlogging...?" You actually did it just to have fun. You don't take yourself too seriously. Our industry needs more people like you. Cheers.
Hands down you are my favourite UA-camr, your character, delivery and knowledge is a breath of fresh air. Keep it up bro!! 1 million + subs in 2020 is definitely on the cards!!
Totally agree! :)
Potato Jet:- "you're probably watching this in 720p"
Me watching in 1080p:- *smug face *
Those who are watching in 1440p: ಠ_ಠ
@@fbfvFabianBashota But still looks nice on 2160p :)
@@kurcensk thanks for informing us non-4k-screen-peasants xD
But there wasn't a doubt in the first place I mean it's ARRI :D
@@fbfvFabianBashota Thats the point - no matter what screen you have, it looks good because of Arri :)
not to brag, I'm watching in 4k
Arri: Want to come to our "creative studio"?
Potato: Like a child in a toystore 🤩🤩🤩
The Arri out-of-camera image is untouchable in it's perfection
What I love about ARRI is the dedication to craftsmanship and quality. They are the best for a reason.
That was a really helpful explanation of how a camera works and how we perceive what it delivers. Thank you for that!
Omg 😆 the flying away house joke 🤣🤣🤣🤣 almost got in trouble at work for busting up laughing
It got me too! 😂
The movie right?😂😂😂😂😂
19:47 They use a peltier element to control the sensors temperature. It's a huge advantage especially in low-light situations due to the reduced thermal noise. It's a technique also used in sensors for space exploration and other remote sensing applications to get more reliable data.
Arri: wanna come play with us?
Potato: yeah I'm down!
Me: You're UP
Love this video and the Arri Alexa line of cameras. My wife worked for the stunt coordinator of FordvFerrari and I got to visit while they were shooting the film. I went to visit the camera truck and the guys were super cool and it was like being in a tech candy store! Roger Deakins also shot 1917 with this camera as well.
You Arri-wielding-Yogi-potato you! Been digging this deeper dive into cinema cameras and cinema camera life.
“At least the camera won’t float away!” Lol. Deserves an award
the detail in the fire. what a crazy sensor
OMG, I was waiting for this review since the full size Arri Alexa review u did!
Gene: I feel like I'm flying!
Me: Shit, he's gonna break his elbow again...
Danny Derrick I don’t care if you broke your elbow
A few technical corrections:
1 - The "rare earth element" they told you is "secret sauce" - it really isn't. It's a thermoelectric cooler(peltier), the same thing as in a car's mini fridge. Most professional cameras stabilize(note - STABILIZE, not COOL!) their sensor temperature because calibration is only valid for certain temperatures. Passing current through it causes one side to get cold, the other to get hot. The hot side is heatsinked to the giant metal body, or a giant heatsink in Blackmagic's Ursa Mini cameras for example.
2 - The "two processor" thing for 16 bit is a bit of a misdirection. The ALEV III sensor has a dual gain architecture - the sensor itself only has two sets of amplifiers at different gains, and the analog to digital conversion is done on the circuit boards, whereas on more compact integrated cameras, the sensor itself has an ADC and outputs digital data.
I haven't torn into an Alexa yet(donations, anyone? :P), but I'm guessing that it just has two separate ADC channels for each gain stage, and then it blends the images coming out in post to get the highest signal to noise ratio. It's the same with Blackmagic cameras, except all that is done on the sensor - you get two digital outputs, high gain and low gain.
Correct on the Peltier, but very few other cameras do this, since it does make the cameras heavier and more expensive. But worth it for the increase in image quality.
@@marcshipman-mueller590 Most cinema cameras generally do this.
@@Spirit532 I want to gave your level of electronics knowledge. Where do I get started?
@@therealb888 Find something you want to build and dig into how to do it. You'll only succeed if you have a goal.
Don't be afraid to get into the technical stuff! There is so much beginner-level content on youtube. Also thanks for mastering in 4k. Many of us do watch on 4k monitors because we are film geeks and creators ourselves! Great video.
Keep up the good work man. The reason you are great is because you are perfect on camera AND as a working DP you actually know what you are talking about.
You're hollywood's favorite camera, gene.
“And at least the camera won’t float away”
And I’m just left giggling on the sofa. Oh gosh that was funny.
Straight up in love with the combo of Lenses and Arri Alexa
super excited - getting my alexa studio plus this week!
I thought you did the splits there! You really had me 😂🤣😂🤣
18:08 "You're Probably watching this on 720p"
*triggered in 4k*
you're such a happy person, I love the vibes
I really enjoyed this video Gene. Great content man. That separation you got with the LF was beautiful. Jesus! I was drooling during all of those BROLL sequences! haha. So happy to see you in your happy place bro. Keep it up man. You are on FIRE
notice how every time he says "awesome", it's like "aaaaaaawesome" lol
Cause it IS awesome
his voice is in my head rightnow o_o
Potato: ''this is not a sponsored video''
Me: 😭😭there goes my chance of winning an arri Alexa 😢😅
Gene ur so knowledgeable it's unreal. Who needs film school after watching your videos.
Thanks you so much for these videos. I think your one of the most interesting youtubers out there!
Lmao @ "it's like you don't even need to know what the f*
Potato Jet: "You're probably watching in 720p or something"
Me: *Scuffs* " Try 360p nerd"
Schoolboy Jordan yes.
I looooove how you go through cameras!! top notch entertainment!!!
Holy cow that camera rig in front of the race car! And the amazing dynamic range and color...wow.
My man is trying so hard to get a free alexa hahaha. Love it!
Do a comparison between the Alexa and the Osmo Pocket. I'm trying to decide.
Yes!!!, A video that felt like the old potato videos
Great video! Love your enthusiasm and energy!
0:41 That dude definitely can be Brandon from Linus tech tips.
Gene: I felt like I was in the matrix
Everyone watching at home: Does Up take place within the matrix??
But... Doesn't nearly everything take place in the matrix?
Ayyyyy! This came out dope AF!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
that footage is super fire
literally

This is how I roast my marshmallows
3:10
they taste phenomenal
@@AnkitPatel-ih6uv LOL
Arri: *has the best colors*
Me: I'm colorblind and I'm watching it in nightshift
Arri: "Am I a joke to you?"
So excited to watch!
22:17 yeah right. The usable dynamic range only to recover the shadow that cause by the camera itself
As a german I can say the "A" in ARRI is pronounced like a very short "uh", so it's more like "Uh-Ree", not "Air-Ree".
Also it's very interesting that USA (Hollywood) is by far THE place where the best cinema movies come from, but they are mostly produced with german equipment from ARRI (cameras, lenses, follow focus & lights), Sachtler (tripods), Zeiss (lenses), Sennheiser (microphones), and so on.
Wusste gar nicht, dass Arri deutsch ist.
Ole Sonne jup, Sitz in München 😊

Awesome to see people loving thier profession that much. Great Video.
This was a fun love letter to Arri. I really enjoyed watching all of the way through.
Potato: You're probably watching this in 720p
Me checking the resolution: 1440p *feeling superior*
Me: hmmm, that's a nice table, maybe I should get smth like that for myself?
Gene: tears paper off.
Me O_o nevermind then...
You are awesome! This video just kept me glued till the end. I'm a big arri fan just like you 😍❤
Man I've learned so much from your videos, about cameras and filming, love your point of view!
Sooo did anyone go 👀👀 when he said “not trying to sit on Santa’s lap” 👀👀
I still have a 70D and I'm like dang.... I just want a EOS R
Love the level of information and details that you are giving out. Love you man. It's been a few months and i Finally Suscribed and even hit the notification bell.
great video as usual... and what a camera
Potato Jet thinking....
How many videos about Arri do I need to make before they sponsor me?
I've bought one of their cameras, I say all sorts of nice things about them. I've tried everything!
Potato Jet has a bright moment..... Wait I have and Idea! What about some....
hot fire breathing women!
If they don't sponsor my next video, I quit.
The clip you shot is FIRE 🔥 All puns intended 🙂

I love this video and how passionate you are about this!

Learned so much! Thank you.
Can you make a video about cinema lenses vs photography lenses?
Love these Arri vids.
man i love watching these videos from pete matti and potato after work....
I straight up laughed out loud and scared my dog when the music gently came back in and you were doing slow motion acro-yoga. That's all I needed to see today... gonna go make a video.
