Just picked up an Alexa Classic camera! At this price point the camera is an absolute no brainer. Write it off on your taxes as a business expense, make money with the camera, and sell it for probably the same as what you paid for it now. I can't image these cameras can get much cheaper.

It comes down to build quality, color science, tonality, and how the sensor handles difficult lighting situations. 60K is nothing for a major Film/TV show so it makes sense to use a system that is proven to be reliable, and has a simple workflow. Time is money.

Also due to the still increased risk of terrorist attacks, security and police are trained to look for sketchy situations so you will just have to get used to asking permission. The "fucking blue collar poor people" aren't the issue. It's the laziness of people not asking permission which is killing it for the rest of us. I rarely got a no and barely had any fees either.

Fun fact: ARRI doesn't make their own sensors. ON Semiconductor makes the ALEV III sensor, they were also the ones commissioned to design it and won an award for it. Fun fact #2: The Alexa LF and Mini LF don't have a new sensor. They just butted two old ALEV III designs together and rotated it. They only ever had one sensor, the same as in your "old" Classic, and it's still the one used in their latest cameras. The Alexa 65 is just three ALEV III designs butted together on the same die.
Well of course Arri don't have a semiconductor factory, but they didn't just order "some sensor" from ON Semiconductor. They have specialists who designed that sensor in collaboration with the semiconductor people, and they did a good job so far because every cameraman with a high enough budget will usually go for Arri.

Is is of course the 4:4:4 sampling which makes the sharp image. It can't be compared with the conventional 4:2:0, where 80% of the color pixels are thrown away.

And display them on a monitor which does not, so you're definitely not seeing them. It also depending on how you export and encode/compress the video, but it's always good to have more colors or a bigger range than not.

Nice camera. Still holds up in 2019. I prefer good HD over OK 4K anytime. Dynamic range and color are the most important. Resolution is the last thing you should be thinking about. I hope you are gonna make some awesome stuff with it. You ar e going to get super strong after some time wit this camera! My DSLM camera rigged out is even quite heavy...

My dream has been to own an Arri Alexa also. After seeing your video I decided to get one also. I found one at Alan Gordon. I got an Alexa Classic EV for under $6000. But not by much. It isn't the Plus like the one you got. When I was in college I wanted an Arri 16BL - never got one. Now I will be getting an Arri Alexa. Exciting. What's ironic is that in 1977 I was on a trip to Germany and got a private tour of the Arri Factory in Munich by Dr. August Arnold the owner. It was the most fantastic experience ever. What I life I've had. After seeing your video on the PL to EF conversion, I also got an EF conversion kit for the Alexa so I can use my Canon lenses. Because of your videos I decided to get an Arri Alexa. So I have to say Thanks for the motivation.

All the ARRI Alexas use the Alev-III Sensor, 14 stops dynamic range, high quality build, 8.25 micron size pixels, its a workhorse of a camera meant to last a long time. Even survives Warehouse fires. ✓

The owner of the property has the legal right to tell them what types of activities and cameras are permitted there. Likely they charge fees to permit commercial cinematography.

That guy thinks it's commercial filming due to the type of camera, which is illegal without a permit. Most folks don't have giant cinema quality cameras to take video with for shits and giggles
There's a parking spot right there, so it's not in the middle of nowhere, but it's either a national park or it's owned by the city or the county. These entities usually charge for permits for professional cinematography because they can, but also to limit the amount of low-budget professional shoots in popular spots. They do the same in Germany in parks around castles and stuff like that. These spots would be flowing over with photographers and film crews every day, and so they are really strict about it. You can expect expensive fines if you publish professional pictures or video from there without a permit.
Hate the Craigslist in LA. Whenever I want to buy something - its sold. Last week literally on my way to pick up a gimbal the seller called me back saying someone just arrived before me. Love that.

Nice camera. Still holds up in 2019. I prefer good HD over OK 4K anytime. Dynamic range and color are the most important. Resolution is the last thing you should be thinking about. I hope you are gonna make some awesome stuff with it. You ar e going to get super strong after some time wit this camera! My DSLM camera rigged out is even quite heavy...

My dream has been to own an Arri Alexa also. After seeing your video I decided to get one also. I found one at Alan Gordon. I got an Alexa Classic EV for under $6000. But not by much. It isn't the Plus like the one you got. When I was in college I wanted an Arri 16BL - never got one. Now I will be getting an Arri Alexa. Exciting.
What's ironic is that in 1977 I was on a trip to Germany and got a private tour of the Arri Factory in Munich by Dr. August Arnold the owner. It was the most fantastic experience ever. What I life I've had. After seeing your video on the PL to EF conversion, I also got an EF conversion kit for the Alexa so I can use my Canon lenses. Because of your videos I decided to get an Arri Alexa. So I have to say Thanks for the motivation.

All the ARRI Alexas use the Alev-III Sensor, 14 stops dynamic range, high quality build, 8.25 micron size pixels, its a workhorse of a camera meant to last a long time. Even survives Warehouse fires. ✓
It's crazy to think that they nailed that sensor so much that almost 10 years later they didn't have to change anything. Basically they just keep stacking them to increase resolution.

That is not public property. That is a parking lot owned by the operator of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a tourist attraction in Palm Springs, CA. The owner of the property has the legal right to tell them what types of activities and cameras are permitted there. Likely they charge fees to permit commercial cinematography.

That guy thinks it's commercial filming due to the type of camera, which is illegal without a permit. Most folks don't have giant cinema quality cameras to take video with for shits and giggles
There's a parking spot right there, so it's not in the middle of nowhere, but it's either a national park or it's owned by the city or the county. These entities usually charge for permits for professional cinematography because they can, but also to limit the amount of low-budget professional shoots in popular spots. They do the same in Germany in parks around castles and stuff like that. These spots would be flowing over with photographers and film crews every day, and so they are really strict about it. You can expect expensive fines if you publish professional pictures or video from there without a permit.
